GE POWER PACKAGING, Tampa, Florida 2001 to 2002
International Field Service Representative
While working at GE my job as a Field Service Representative took me all over the world. I took a special interest in their Cruise Ship Industry and their Combine Cycle Power Plant installations onboard these vessels. This plant consisted of two LM2500+'s with Deltak 50 ton vertical boilers which supplied a 10 Megawatt Fincanteri Steam turbine which fed the Hotel facilities. The other 40 Megawatts produced by the LM2500's were for propulsion motors or PODS as there called as well as bow thrusters. The work on these vessels was strenuous as well as stressful. It required your full attention and careful planning prior to arrival on board in order to accomplish the necessary tasks before the vessel left port on a commercial cruise. The work involved periodic maintenance both light and heavy as well as engine change out if necessary all before the vessel left port for it's scheduled cruise which ranged from 8-10 hours each day or every other day. Other work involved mini outages from dusk to dawn on some peaker plant sites with equipment ranging from LM6000PC,D to LM5000 STI and the LM2500. This work usually involved boroscoping and any remedial action needed to replace anything noted in the inspection. In addition, balance shots on compressors were conducted using ADRE, which is Bentley Nevada balance equipment. Additional work conducted were hot sections, top cases, engine removal and replacement. Power Turbine removal and replacement. Start up and installation work offshore on Turbine and gas compressor sets.
* Some significant area I've excelled in were on these cruise ships where I got to use my Navy experience and Gas Turbine electronics and mechanical background to really focus on getting these ships debugged and commissioned for commercial use. I felt like I was vital part and making the next ships power plant that we built even better by explaining what I felt were the problems and getting them incorporated on the next build.
* I really enjoyed working with both the French, Italian and German builders of these cruise ships and my ability to communicate with them in doing so was a necessary relationship in order for the American made power plant and the European built ships to mesh and become one.

Hanover Compression International, Houston, Texas 1996 to 2001
International Field Service Representative
Roles included startup and installation on Reciprocating gas compressor sets and training of plant personnel to run and operate the associated equipment. Equipment include the Wartsila diesel, 7042GSI WAKESHA ENGINE,G 3616T/A CATERPILLAR ENGINE, 3516 T/A CATERPILLAR,WHITE SUPERIOR G 16VTA,CUMMINS DIESEL. The compressor sets included the JGD&JGC-6 ARIEL six throw compressor, ARIEL JGK & JGT, Dresser Rand, Cooper white superior and Ajax. Other work involved periodic maintenance, overhaul on engine and gas compressor equipment through Venezuela and Colombia.
* Started up the first offshore platform ever done by Hanover Compression in Bachaquero Venezuela, South America. Which consisted of four 3616 T/A caterpillar engine each driving a JGD-6 six throw Ariel compressor which produced 25 mmcfd with a total output of 100 mmcfd for the platform. This plant played a crucial role in PDVSA of Venezuela in gathering there gas for re injection to a larger platform based in the southern field of Lake Maracaibo.
* Worked as the Operations Manager over the 10,000 sqft repair facility in Maturin Venezuela which repaired all gas engine and compressor parts for re-use in the field saving on thousands of dollars and preventing outsourcing of this work. This facility eventually started doing third party work for other operation companies because of its reputation, quality staff and timely turn around on repairs.
* Worked in Colombia South America on a Gas Compression project for Ecogas which involved supplying gas to one of the countries main power generation facilities located in Barranca Bermeja. This plant would supply gas to a large gas turbine facility that would run during the dry season when the hydro- electric plant was limited because of flow. This plant was critical for operation and availability due to its requirement for energy in the south central region of Colombia where most people live.

Cooper Energy Service, Miami, Florida 1992 to 1996
Gas Turbine Controls Technician
Installation and startup of all Gas Turbine and Reciprocating engine Controls system on the Rolls Royce RB211, Avon Gas Turbine, White Superior reciprocating engines that focus in the area of Fuel Control systems, air to fuel ration controllers, surge controllers. Other controls include installation of the En-tronic controls FT110, 55, 25 and FT 210. These packages included Fix Innellutions, Wonderware or Simplicity, which drove the graphics for the Gas Turbine Controls and Reciprocating Compressor packages, and Balance of plant equipment.
* Retrofitting of the RB211 Controls system with the new ultra low emissions system. This involves quite an extensive removal of the existing control system and then installation of the new system with the existing. This system was still R&D and I provided some extensive feedback in the retrofit process to help streamline the installation.
Worked in Farmington New Mexico with Burlington Resources on a large reciprocating engine and compressor project which consisted of approximately 50 units with FT-55 and FT-110 clean burn unit control system which controlled the units emissions due to the tight limits required by New Mexico for running these natural gas supplied engines and balance of plant.
* Excellent I&C and electrical troubleshooter on control systems including En-Tronic Control systems, Allen Bradley, GE Fanuc. I have a in depth working knowledge of the RB211 and Avon Gas Turbines both Electrically and Mechanically.
* Completed a Pratt and Whitney Phantom 5 fuel control installation at Lago 1 Compressor Station in Bachaquero, Venezuela S.A this was the first of its kind to retrofit with this Fuel Control System.
