Journeyman Crane Operator [Dec 2004-present]
Operates cranes on piers and drydocks to lift and move major nuclear components, radar equipment, live ammunition, ship's structures, propellers, shafts, and other miscellaneous cargo. Frequently required to follow crane movement instructions by using power sound phones, exercising extreme care in following hand signals and precision to prevent costly accidents. Required to conduct weight-handling tests which involve moving large and heavy test weight loads that will exceed the crane's capacity and often in confined shop and dock areas where maneuverability is restricted and accuracy is crucial. Ensures that all weight-handling equipment are weight tested in accordance with existing instructions,P307 instruction technical code. Required to assist PACNAVFACENGCOM representatives while conducting load tests of special purpose service (SPS) cranes for validation and NAVFAC audit teams in conducting audits of weight-handling equipment. Incumbent may operate cranes fitted with excavating attachments. On an incidental duty basis, operates bridge cranes up to 100-ton capacity in confined shop area where maneuverability is restricted and accuracy is critical
