- Proficient in X-ray crystallography, multi-nuclear NMR, high pressure in situ FTIR, TGA, DSC, Gel Permeation Chromatography, X-Seed, ShelXTL, and Advanced Chemistry Development Labs software.
EDUCATION
Doctorate of Philosophy, Chemistry
Texas A&M University May 2009
Advisor: Dr. Donald J. Darensbourg
Dissertation: "Development and mechanistic studies of the chromium tetramethyltetraazaannulene catalyst system for the copolymerization of carbon dioxide and epoxides"
Bachelor of Science, Chemistry
Texas A&M University 2004
EXPERIENCE
Research Assistant 2004-present
Chemistry Department, Texas A&M University
- Synthesized a library of chromium, cobalt, nickel, and zinc Schiff-base catalysts designed for the environmentally benign copolymerization of epoxides and carbon dioxide.
- Developed the most active chromium catalyst for the production of polycarbonate from epoxide and carbon dioxide with 50-70% less byproduct formation than other chromium based systems.
- Provided insight into the mechanism by which polymer chain propagation occurs through innovative methods not possible with previous catalyst systems.
- Sharpened technical writing and presentation skills through publications in peer reviewed journals and oral presentations at various national and international conferences.
- Taught honors and general laboratory courses in order to hone my leadership, decision making, and team work skills.
Undergraduate Research Assistant 2002-2004
Chemistry Department, Texas A&M University
- Advisor: Dr. F. A. Cotton
-- Synthesized a family of ligands, requiring a complicated multi-step synthesis, for metal paddlewheel complexes for the study of the structural and electronic characteristics of metal-metal quadruple bonds.
- Advisor: Dr. P. A. Lindahl
-- Provided evidence to support the purposed mechanism of Acetyl-CoA Synthase/Carbon Monoxide Dehydrogenase through genetic modification to block enzymatic activity.
-- Proved the importance of nickel to the function of Acetyl-CoA Synthase/Carbon Monoxide Dehydrogenase through synthesis with various metal ions and chelating agents.
