2) During M.Tech, I have done one project entitled " Preparation & Characterization of Electro catalysts for Low Temperature Fuel Cells." (The details are given in a separate page.).

Presently I am working as a "Project Fellow" in Central Electrochemical Research Institute in a project entitled "Removal of Arsenic from Drinking Water" and in "Development of 400W SPE Water Electrolyzer". I am also involved with the development of PEMFC.

Abstract of Project Work during M.Tech:

Technological improvements in Proton Exchange Membrane Fuel cells (PEMFCs) and Direct Methanol Fuel Cells (DMFCs) are fuelled by their exciting possibilities in portable, transportation and stationary applications. Improvements of the polymer electrolyte fuel cells requires development of highly active electrodes of low cost to facilitate its widespread use. In the present study, the possibility of applying conventional carbon particles loaded with Pt to the electrode catalyst layer was tested.
Carbon supported electrocatalysts were synthesized at room temperature and in some cases at elevated temperature by two different conventional reduction methods; viz. Gas phase reduction which uses the H2 gas at 400 0C as reducing agent and solid phase reduction in which NaBH4 is used as the reducing agent.
Membrane Electrode Assemblies (MEAs) were prepared by hot-pressed method at 1400C temperature and 2-tone pressure for 3 minutes.
These MEAs were tested using a homemade 2 x 2 cm 2 H2 – O2 single fuel cell. The cell was composed of a pair of graphite plates with serpentine flow fields of flow channel size 1.5 x 1.5 mm2. The tests were performed at ambient pressure using both hydrogen and oxygen obtained from a 5 x 5-cm2 home made Polymer Electrolyte Membrane (PEM) hydrogen generator of 50-w capacity. Both the gases were humidified at 50 0C by passing them through hot water. The performance of the cell was tested at various loads. It has been observed that the cell delivered a current density 0.341W/Cm2 at potential 0.9103 V.

The characterizations of prepared catalysts are performed by cyclic voltammetry, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD) studies.
