EMPLOYMENT HISTORY
September 2005 to present
Self-employed contracted to Chevron, Aberdeen
Operations Geologist
I am currently contracted by Chevron to help plan and document the geological programmes for a 3-5 well UK deepwater exploration programme. My role involves coordinating and oversight of third party shallow geohazards work, working with team members and vendors to plan the coring, mudlogging, LWD and wireline acquisition, assisting the drilling team regarding setting up a mudlogging contract, working with partners to ensure we understand their requirements, and liasing with company specialists in Houston to ensure best practices are being followed. I am also involved in the set up of a real-time data acquisition system.

January 2003 to present
ExxonMobil Exploration Company
Operations Geologist
This involved working in the ExxonMobil Exploration Company Operations Geology Core Group in Houston. I was responsible for preparing pre-drill shallow drilling hazards reports for international exploration, production and development wells based on site surveys, geotechnical information, offset well analysis, pore pressure predictions and seismic interpretation and mapping. I was required to prepare formal documents regarding each project I undertake and was also required to give oral presentations up to Vice President level. Good communication skills and technical excellence were required in order to report accurately and effectively on the findings of each study to colleagues who have a wide variety of backgrounds and varying status in the company.
Prior to my transfer to Houston I was remotely deployed to Mobil North Sea Limited (MNSL), an affiliate office of ExxonMobil. MNSL had 2 drilling/production platforms and 1 semi submersible rig in the North Sea. I had responsibility for geological operations on all UK operated rigs. The job involved working very closely with the geoscientists, drilling engineers, and service company personnel while planning and managing geological operations. I was responsible for well planning, well surveillance, post well reporting, data QC and management, management of wellsite geologists, raising service requests and approval of invoices. I was also involved in the management of site surveys. I also recently covered operations in the Stavanger office where I was responsible for planning the geological operations of a potentially overpressured exploration well, creating coring and casing protocols, and overseeing an extensive wireline program that included the use of high profile technologies.

October 2001 January 2003
Mobil North Sea Limited, Union Row, Aberdeen
Geological Operations/ Formation Evaluation Technician
This was a contract support role working alongside the Senior Exploration Manager, Operations Geologist, and Petrophysicist. Assisting with site survey studies and government applications, well planning documents, geological data management and log interpretation using UNIX based software, QC of geological logs and reports from operated wells, submission of service requests, and approval of invoices. Following on from this I accepted a staff position as Operations Geologist in the same department.

November 2000 to October 2001
HRH Limited, Silverburn Place, Bridge of Don, Aberdeen
Geological Sales/Operations Geology
Responsible for all aspects of sales and marketing of geological software, gas detection equipment, wellsite geologists, and geologging services in the UK and Norway. This included giving demonstrations and presentations, producing and submitting bids, visiting existing and potential clients regularly, dealing with queries by telephone, email, and letter, manning stands at exhibitions, planning advertising campaigns, and researching markets using industry publications and the Internet. I also had a role which involved organizing the contract wellsite geologists for BP operated wells.

February 2000 to November 2000
Oilfield Systems, Enterprise Road, Chilworth, Southampton
Geoscience Software Support
Based at the Shell Expro office in Aberdeen, I managed and supported multiple licenses of a large geological database and correlation package owned by Oilfield Systems. The work involved UNIX database administration, supporting and advising geoscientists and giving software training courses to groups and individuals.

January 1998 to February 2000
HRH Limited, Silverburn Place, Bridge of Don, Aberdeen
Operations Geologist/Wellsite Geologist
The first three months with HRH were spent at Talisman in the Exploration Department. I continued the work I had done through Bryant Engineering as detailed below, but due to cutbacks in Talisman I began working as a wellsite geologist in March 1998.
During my time as a wellsite geologist I was mainly contracted to Shell Expro in the Central North Sea and spent over a year on the Guillemot West, Kingfisher and Bittern developments. This gave me valuable experience in drilling horizontal wells, working on high pressure and high temperature wells, and geosteering. Most of the work involved being on twenty-four hour call at the wellsite, therefore effective time management was essential. I was required to describe and interpret the geological data, make decisions on picking casing and coring points, supervise the mudlogging, LWD, and wireline operations, and communicate efficiently and effectively with other rig personnel and the onshore geologists.

March 1997 to Januray 1998
Bryant Engineering, Union Street, Aberdeen
Contracted to Talisman Energy as Technical Assistant and Operations Geologist
I had a ten month contract as a technical assistant in the Exploration Department of Talisman Energy. This involved assisting the operations geologist and geologists with data management, rig schedules, government applications, well planning documents, and geological presentations. In May 1997 I was offered the position of operations geologist which involved planning and management of geological operations relating to Talisman operated wells.

February 1996 to March 1997
Halliburton Drilling Systems
Surface Data Logging Engineer
Duties included monitoring and reporting on drilling parameters, geological samples, and gas levels on offshore drilling installations. Effective communication was very important, particularly when unexpected situations were encountered which had the potential to jeopardize the well or the safety of the personnel on board. I was required to communicate closely with a wide variety of personnel including drilling crews, directional drillers, geologists, mud engineers, cementers, casing crews, MWD/LWD engineers, wireline engineers, solids control engineers, and oil company representatives.
