Work Experience:
March/98 to Present
Started with Nova Chemicals in March/98 at the Saint Clair River Site Pilot Plant as a trainee & progressed to a fully qualified DCS panel operator. The Pilot Plant was responsible for developing & testing polyethylene catalyst technology, and demonstrating the process technology for PE2 located in Joffery Alberta.
During my time at the Pilot plant over and above becoming technically proficient in all aspects of operating an R&D facility, I have completed a 3-year term of Responsible Care Co-Ordinator. The role included: publishing 2 RC annual reports, Gap Analysis and stewardship of RC programs such as ILP & BBS, contact & point person on regional RC Audits, FSA's & Insurance Underwriter Audits and the chairperson for area RC meetings. I have participated in the PEERT (Polyethylene Effectiveness Review Team) which reviewed the RC Critical Training Matrix & provided recommendations to site leadership on changes to the Responsible Care training requirements. I am just completing a 3-year term on the site JHSC and have intimate knowledge of the Occupational Health & Safety Act for Industrial Establishments. I have performed the role of Behavioral Based Safety Co-Ordinator for the past 3 years at the departmental & site level.
For the past 3 years I have been in the position of Pilot Plant Training Co-Ordinator & OJT in which I have been the lead in shifting the PP from a traditional Training Environment to a Learning Environment. This has been accomplished by introducing the employees to Adult Learning Theories & principles, Self Directed Learning, Action & Active Learning Theories as well as developing & restructuring our knowledge database. Most recently I was the Subject Matter Expert and project lead in implementing an Electronic Performance Support System, (TIPS). My role responsibilities include developing training plans & tracking both RC & technician progression through SAP, Co-Op & new employee orientation, participation on the Regional Orientation Committee, managing employee training records, developing & providing training to technicians, arranging external training resources & provide input in the development of CBT training modules. Additional duties include the reformatting of all operating procedures, standard operating conditions, training modules. I have acquired exceptional word processing & Technical writing skills & am very proficient in Power Point, Outlook, Excel, SAP, Microsoft Front Page, Aspen Process Explorer. I have been the PP representative on the Regional Wellness Committee. All my computer skills have been self-taught as I am a proponent of Life Long Learning
June/95 to March/98
Began work at Norsk Hydro Agri Maitland as a Nitric Acid & Utilities Operator. I worked the utilities area for 8 months monitoring the plant instrument air, nitrogen, de-mineralized water, soft water, polished water, cooling water & reclaimed water systems. My responsibilities also included the monitoring & maintaining of the MISA guidelines for plant effluent. As a Nitric Acid plant operator I was responsible for the safe & efficient operation of 3 nitric acid plants with a combined output of 1000 tonnes of 58% nitric acid per day. All plants employ power recovery turbines to recover approximately 40 to 50% of waste heat generated in the process. Other duties included the operation of the tank farm, loading & unloading nitric acid trucks, operation & testing of a 68% Nitric Acid Concentrator & the operation of an Ammonia Refrigeration plant
1981-1993
Began as a Process Operator trainee at Syncrude Canada Ltd. and progressed to the level of senior operator being granted 4 accelerated progressions. I gained 6 years experience operating the TDC 3000, TDC 2000/PMX Environmental Control panel. The panel consisted of 2 Amine units with a combined feed rate of 130 MSCFD sour fuel gas, 3 Sulphur Recovery units with a combined feed rate of 47 MSCFD acid gas, producing 220 kpph #600 steam & 200 kpph #150 steam, a Sulphureen unit, 2 Sour Water Treaters, Sour Water Concentrator, 2 Gas Oil Hydrotreaters with a combined feed rate of 135 KBPD of untreated gas oil and the flare & Blow down Systems.
I have operated & became fully qualified on the following units:

Specialized Duties;
- Completed a 3-month assignment as a Day Shift Safety Specialist rebuilding a Gas Oil Hydrotreater after a major explosion & fire
- Completed a 16-month assignment as Procedures Co-Ordinator.
- Completed a 12-month assignment developing and implementing a comprehensive boiler feed water chemical control system & training package
- Shutdown Safety Technician for all of the above units on a semi-annual basis
- Volunteered for the First Response Fire team, Hydrocarbon Response team & shift safety rep.
- Filled the position of technician supervisor for vacations & special assignments
- Trained coworkers in all aspects of refinery operations
1978-1980
Joined the Royal Canadian Armed Forces & became a Weaponsman Underwater.
My duties included; preventive maintenance & operation of pneumatic & hydraulic anti-submarine weapons and detection systems. I was chosen to represent the Royal Canadian Navy in the Royal Military Honor Guard for the Queen Mother and the changing of the Royal Canadian Navy's Colours
