Experience
October 1990 to Present – Freelance Programmer
Responsibilities include:
Since October of 1990 I have kept one foot in the programming world while maintaining systems at various companies. A large portion of my assignments are with past clients where I have worked and where I am now called back to update scripts/programs or for new assignments. Lately, work has been split almost in half in writing programs to perform and maintain systems, sync data between remote locations, generate system usage/health reports and to create in house websites to provide remote access to applications and data (important in a city that has had to evacuate several times in the past few years because of hurricanes). Program languages primarily revolve around usual system admin scripting languages (Korn, C, Borne, Perl) to writing in JavaScript, converting PHP4 to PHP5 code and Ruby (1.8.6). Website development includes SEO and work with Joomla!, WordPress and other CMS tools.
July 2008 to April 2009 – Eni Petroleum (Senior UNIX/Linux Systems Administrator / Application Support)

Typical admin duties include running backups (Legato and NetBackup), creating/deleting accounts, data synchronization between sites, Sendmail maintenance, jumpstarting/kickstarting systems, installing and troubleshooting problems with Citrix, VMware and oil and gas applications and systems. Oil and gas applications include products from Hampson-Russell, Landmark, Paradigm and GeoQuest/Schlumberger. Other duties include maintaining Zeh environment, Samba, Apache, NIS, FLEXlm, Disaster Recovery Planning, writing scripts to launch applications, system health/usage reports and to backup data and databases. Also involved in optimizing HPC environment and testing/implementing of applications and hardware. (Contract position)

Responsibilities include:
Primary duties focused on supporting the University's web farm and PeopleSoft systems (these run on Sun Solaris systems). Aside from the usual admin duties (creating accounts, troubleshooting software/hardware problems, for example) I also had to do a fair amount of scripting/programming, NIS, NIS+, NTP, DNS, Zones, Sendmail and Apache configuration/maintenance, LDOM configurations (for different web domains), plus backups/restores (using Tivoli and NetBackup). (Contract position)
September 2007 to November 2007 – Shell (Sr. UNIX/Linux Systems Administrator/Systems Engineer)
Responsibilities include:
Primary duties were to support the UNIX and Linux environments. This includes supporting hardware, operating systems and oil and gas applications. Most of work is focused on rolling out new Linux systems and getting users to make the transition from Sun Solaris to Red Hat Linux. (Contract position)
