Objective: To obtain a position that will effectively utilize my industry experience and strong educational background to advance a career in the geologic exploration of energy resources.
Education:
2006 – Present, M.S. in Geology, West Virginia University
Thesis Title: Depositional Models of the Middle Pennsylvanian Kanawha Formation in Gilmer County, West Virginia
Cum laude graduate, GPA: 3.50 / 4.00
2002 – 2006, B.S. in Geology, Indiana University of Pennsylvania
Senior Thesis Title: Surface Exposure Dating by Nitrate Accumulation in Soils from Beacon Valley, Antarctica
Work Experience:
2008 - 2009, Geology Internship, Dominion Exploration and Production, Inc. (DEPI)
Responsible for a regional project involving Western Pennsylvania, objectives were:
* Using GeoGraphix, correlated major sand units across study area using sequence stratigraphic boundaries
* Using ZoneManager, mapped sand trends with sand and pay for major sand units
* Detailed outcrops near Penn State University to help correlate chrono- and litho-stratigraphic units in the subsurface
* Developed simple depositional models using a sequence stratigraphic approach
Development Geology:
* Evaluating major sand units using log analysis software (PRIZM and ZoneManager) for petrophysical characteristics
* Constructed petrophysical maps using the calculated data from user-defined equations to identify drillable locations
* Provided supervisor with recommendations on future drilling locations
Responsible for maintaining location database of competing companies targeting the Marcellus Shale within the basin to help the company strategize over future drilling locations
Mentors: Roy Lynch, Patrick McBride, Phillip Morath, and Edward Frame
2007, Geology Internship, Petroleum Development Corporation (PDC)
Responsible for a project involving the Piceance Basin with responsibilities including:
* Developing and building cross-sections of the basin
* Analyzing and interpretating cross-sections searching for natural gas reserves
Mentor: Bob Williamson
2005 – 2006, Student Researcher, Indiana University of Pennsylvania
Responsible for researching and data collection on senior thesis project, which will be published through the adviser
Adviser: Dr. Michael Poage
Field Experience:
2008 – Outcrop Work
* Studied outcrops near Penn State University for the purpose of correlating rock units at the surface to their chrono- and litho-stratigraphic equivalents
* Data used to conjunction of a project to correlate subsurface units through sequence stratigraphy
2007 – Field Camp
* Run through West Virginia University
* Created detailed maps for portions of the Black Hills, SD and Block Mountain, MT
* Applied skills and techniques learned in the classroom for problem solving situations
2005 – Geology of the Southwestern United States
* Run through Indiana University of Pennsylvania
* First time exploring geology outside of the classroom on a regional scale
