Position1: Control and Instrumentation Field Superintendent
Responsible to the Engineering Manager for Quality Control and Supervision of construction and commissioning contractors in my area of responsibility. Ensure that construction is carried out as per design and specifications and in accordance with quality standards. Ensure that contractors meet and plan work timorously in order to achieve milestone dates. Also responsible for verifying the final as-built documentation as produced by the construction contractors. Liaise with construction and commissioning contractors of various disciplines (civil, mechanical, electrical and instrumentation) to ensure construction and commissioning activities are executed without any delay. Co-ordination of loop checks, function checks and system handovers to the client. Instrumentation included flow, level, temperature, pressure and analytical instrumentation as well as belt weighers and impact weighers of various manufacturers, (Rosemount, Fisher, Hartmann & Braun, ABB, Crowcon gas analyzers, Fuji, Burkert, Endress & Hauser. ABB-Advant DCS system.
January 2001 – May 2001: Engen Oil Refinery, Durban, South Africa
Position1: Control and Instrumentation Designer
Responsible to the Lead Instrumentation/Electrical Engineer for Control and Instrumentation designs on the Refinery for plant modifications and upgrades. Done design for demolition of a crude furnace and upgrade of desalter and completed new design for crude furnace. Design software database used was Intools. DCS system used was Honeywell – TDC-2000 and 3000.
October 2000 – December 2000: Hillside Aluminium Smelter, Richards Bay, South Africa
Position1: Instrumentation/Electrical Clerk of Works
Responsible to the Design Office Superintendent for Instrumentation/Automation and Electrical auditing and “as-built” of drawings throughout the plant. Wrote audit reports and produced drawings to plant specification where it was non-existent. Also do Instrumentation/Electrical Designs.
November 1999 – Sept 2000: Mozal Aluminium Smelter Project, Mozambique (Contract) Position: Instrumentation Inspector/Construction Supervisor

Responsible to the Area Construction Superintendent for Quality Control and Supervision of construction contractors in my area of responsibility. Ensure that construction is carried out as per design and specifications and in accordance with quality standards. Areas and systems responsible for includes; Gas Treatment Centres (GTC’s), Alumina Handling Facilities, Potlines and Equipment.
Equipment Included: Computers and Control room equipment, PLC’s and related equipment, Flow, Level, Temperature and Pressure instruments from various manufacturers. Also assisted Area Contract Administrator with finalizing of Recommendation for Contract Variations (RCV’s) as well as on-site engineering and estimating for non-engineered work.

Position2: Instrumentation Designer/Pisys Specialist (July 1998 – July 1999)
Responsible to the Design Office Superintendent for Instrumentation/Automation Designs, writing of Scopes of Work for plant modifications, writing of functional analysis for programming guidelines, maintaining and controlling of the Pisys Database, verification of Pisys designs by contractors, maintaining of change control on Pisys Database and rectifying of errors on Pisys Database which were inherited from Mindex/Pisys conversion project.
Position3: Instrumentation QC Technician (July 1996 –June 1998)
Responsible to the Design Office Superintendent for Quality Control on Instrumentation and Electrical projects executed in my area of responsibility. Responsible for the updating and correcting of Instrumentation and Electrical drawings to “as-built” status after commissioning of the Smelter. Also controlled and co-ordinated work executed by CAD operators and Instrumentation/Electrical assistants. Drawing packages handled included Mindex and Pisys Instrumentation Databases.
March 1996 – June 1996: Namakwa Sands Smelter, Vredenburg, South Africa (Mineral Mining and Processing plant)
Position: Commissioning Technician
Responsible to the Instrumentation Supervisor for the commissioning of the Ilmenite Preheater plant. Duties included Quality control and the fine-tuning of instrumentation during commissioning. Did faultfinding from field equipment to PLC (Siemens S5 & S7) and DCS system (ABB Advant). Instrumentation included: electric actuated valves (Rotork), Transmitters (Rosemount), Analyzers (Hartmann & Braun) etc.
1989 –1996: Mossgas (PTY) Ltd., Mossel Bay, South Africa (Petrochemical- Oil from Natural Gas plant)
1989 – 1991: Position1: Trainee Instrument Mechanic
Trained for Mossgas Operations at Sasol-2 Training Centre. Completed modules in:
Flow Measurement and Control, Temperature Measurement and Control, Level and Control Valves, Pressure Measurement and Control, Automatic Control, Panel Wiring and Fault Analysis, Electronics and TDC-2000 Distributed Control Systems.
Completed training and passed trade test 21 February 1991.
1991- 1994: Position2: Instrumentation Mechanic
Responsible to the Instrument/Electrical Supervisor for Quality Control, Loop checks, Functional checks and Commissioning of various plants and equipment during commissioning phase of the plant.
Was responsible for preventative maintenance, calibration and repair to various process control instruments from different manufacturers. Instrumentation included: Temperature-, Level-, Flow-, Pressure-, Density and other measuring instruments in open and closed loop systems. Also did calibration and maintenance on Bently-Nevada vibration protection equipment, Hartmann & Braun DCS and faultfinding and programming on Allen-Bradley PLC’s.
Plants included: Methane Reforming plant, Hydrogen Purification plant, Carbon Dioxide Removal plant, Oxygen plant, NGL Recovery plant, LNG Storage plant, Gas Metering and PIG Receiving plant and Tailgas Processing plant.

1994 – 1996:Position3: ESD-Systems Technician (Relieve Position)
Responsible to the Control Systems Engineer for maintenance, faultfinding and Projects on ESD (Emergency Shutdown) related equipment. Did programming and maintenance on various PLC’s (Allen-Bradley PLC-5, Burkert, Gem-80). Also did debugging of PLC programming software after commissioning phase of the plant. Assisted with the implementation of the Scada System (Turbolink) used in the ESD FIFO (first in first out) system.
