LSRE is a part of the department of chemical engineering, University of Porto, Portugal. The areas of work include: reaction engineering, CFD modeling, and process development.
Research Engineer
-Process development of vanillin production from lignin
Bubble column reactor modeling and simulation using gPROMS. Ion-exchange modeling for the vanillin purification. Developed working models on expanded bed, PSA, and simulated moving bed. Process flow sheeting using HYSYS is being done.

3 Technip-coflexip, India (October, 2001 – June, 2003)
Technip ranks among the world's five biggest full-service engineering and construction groups in the field of hydrocarbon and petrochemical facilities.

Principal Engineer (process systems): Part of the process team, which develops basic and detailed engineering packages for Hydrogen plants. Handled energy optimization projects using pinch technology. Spearheaded business development in the area of Information Technology solutions for process industries. Designed heat exchanger, air cooled exchangers, and fired heaters.

4 Yokogawa Blue Star Ltd., India (December, 1998 – September, 2001)
YBL is a leading automation company that provides distributed control systems and instruments.

System Specialist (computer software): Job included providing technical support for the mathematical solver, EQUATRAN-G (EQ-G) globally; marketing and distribution in India. I developed over one hundred case studies in chemical engineering, applied mathematics and allied fields and implemented successfully on EQ-G.

Assistant Manager (systems marketing): Provided technical and sales support for advanced process control division. Scoping studies for APC implementation in refinery, ammonia, polyisobutene, and caprolactam plants were undertaken. Actively involved in APC proposal preparation and bidding.

APC Projects
-ONGC, Hazira: Kerosene recovery unit was considered for APC implementation. The objective was to maximize both heavy cut and naphtha and minimize kerosene.
-SPIC, Tuticorin: SPIC produces 1100 TPD of ammonia. The ERC and APC benefits estimation study resulted in steam savings, fuel savings, and ammonia yield increase.
-Kochi Refineries, Kochi: Benefits estimation was carried out for the implementation of an inferential property estimator in FCCU. This order was won.
-Kothari Sugars and Chemicals, Chennai: Studied the plant and estimated the benefits for APC implementation in this polyisobutene plant. The reactor was the main unit. Techno-commercial proposal was submitted. The ROI period worked out to be 1 year.
-Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals, Mangalore: Benefits estimation was carried out for APC implementation in CDU/VDU block. APC proposal was submitted. The areas considered: maximization of LPG, feed, HGO, vacuum diesel, and preheat circuit.
-Assisted in APC proposal preparation for DCU in IOCL, Digboi and CEP in GSFC, Baroda.

TEACHING EXPERIENCE
*Worked as a teaching assistant in the petrochemical engineering department, Polytechnic, MSU, Baroda (January - May, 1989). Taught fluid mechanics. Laboratory work in fluid mechanics and petrochemical technology was undertaken.

* Worked as Senior Lecturer of chemical engineering in the department of chemical engineering, ACE (affiliated to Madras university), Hosur 635 109, Tamil Nadu, INDIA (December, 1997 – July, 1998). Taught chemical engineering thermodynamics, biochemical engineering, modern separation operations and applied mathematics in chemical engineering. Laboratory work in mechanical unit operations, mass transfer operations and chemical reaction engineering was under taken.

RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT
Developed various models for the packed beds. A comprehensive experimental and theoretical analysis of affinity chromatographic process was undertaken. Optimized the design process for Con A purification.

CSIR Research Associate (June, 1994 – November, 1997)
-Packed bed experimental studies for Con A purification from crude jackbean extract on Sephadex gel. Work involved evaluation of breakthrough, washing and elution curves.
-Experimental studies for Con A purification from crude jackbean extract on Sephadex gel in fluidized beds (affinity-expanded beds).
-Modeling and numerical analysis for affinity packed beds, batch reactors, radial chromatography columns, fluidized and hollow fiber reactors.

-HYSYS: General purpose process flow-sheeting simulation and optimization.
-gPROMS: General purpose process modeling, simulation and optimization software.
-HTRI and FRNC5: Heat exchanger and Furnace design tools.
