EDUCATION

1999-2001 PhD Brittle Deformation and Fluid Flow associated with Fault Reactivation and Inversion, Birmingham University. This project helped to further improve my research skills, and refine my presentation and communication skills. I enhanced my laboratory skills by analysing Blue Lias samples from the Bristol Channel for Vitrinite reflectance at Southampton Oceanography Centre. I gained greater experience in using different types of seismic and graphics software such as The Kingdom Suite and Corel Draw and I improved my seismic interpretation skills. Research undertaken as part of an uncompleted PhD.


1998 - 1999 MSc Basin Evolution and Dynamics, Royal Holloway, University of London. I have built on my theoretical, analytical and practical hydrocarbon related skills during this course, including my practical understanding, analysis and interpretation of well log and seismic data. My communication skills and ability to work as part of a team have also been significantly strengthened. Completing my MSc project strengthened my research skills and I learnt how to process, manage and quality control my data more efficiently. Graduated in July 2000.

1995 - 1998 First Class BSc ( Hons ) Geology, University of Wales, Aberystwyth.
My degree course combined theoretical knowledge with practical and field experience. From practical work I learnt to perform well in a small team, to prepare thoroughly and work systematically. In weekly lectures and tutorials, I developed my communication and presentational skills. During this degree I developed my research skills and my data processing skills by completing many small team and individual projects. Graduated in June 1998.

Final Year Project.
My final year project ' The Geological History of an area around Celada de Roblecado, Northern Spain ' involved accurately collecting, analysing and interpreting data in order to deduce the geological history. I constructed a structurally detailed feature map of the area, and studied how thrust tectonics produced folding, stratigraphic discontinuity and a large scale thrust sheet over the area. I completed an 8000 word report on Microsoft Word and a 20 minute presentation to my fellow colleagues and lecturers. I travelled to Spain with two colleagues, and spent seven weeks in the field which I found to be a very challenging and rewarding experience. I gained a first (70 %) for this project.

My duties are to support office staff in the running of the office. This has helped me further improve my MS Word and Excel skills as well as gaining further database experience using EPS and some Oracle systems. I have also further enhanced my communication and organisational skills.

25/10/01 – 15/3/02. Administrator, Park Financial Services Limited, Canning Street, Birkenhead. I worked as part of the data capture team maintaining and updating information on the Park Hampers Company database. I was responsible for managing the teams workload and allocating work, I also have experience training new members of staff and supervising staff when the teamleader was not available.

INTERESTS

I am a keen and accomplished violin player, having reached a grade seven standard. Throughout secondary school I was a regular member of four community youth orchestras, including the Wirral Schools Orchestra. I was involved in numerous concerts, including the Quids for Kids concert at the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Hall, and tours in several European countries. I was a committed member and the leader of my school orchestra. I have also been a member of orchestras in Aberystwyth and Birmingham. I was an active member of the Birmingham University Jitsu Club, participating in national competitions and regional courses at the weekends as well as 2 nights training a week. I have reached Green belt standard.

ADDITIONAL SKILLS

I am computer literate having completed a first year course in word-processing, graphics, Microsoft Outlook and Excel. I completed my final year project on Microsoft Word, and I always use computers to finish all reports and assignments. I also use the internet and CD Roms for research. I have made several presentation using Microsoft PowerPoint. I used Schlumberger IESX Geoquest, Geovis, Unix and ER Mapper during my MSc project. I have also had experience in using different graphics packages such as Corel Draw, Adobe Illustrator and Freehand. I have used Excel for processing and managing data. I also have experience in using The Kingdom Suite seismic interpretation package and Georient stereonet software. I have laboratory training and have completed a Chemical Safety course. I hold a full clean driving licence.
