PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE:
Total professional experience of more than 15 years in Oil / Refining Industry with M/s Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) in the area of Process Design.

Joined HPCL (Public Sector Undertaking) in 1989 at its Mumbai Refinery. Various positions held in HPCL are:

- From July 2002: Working as Manager – Projects Process of Mumbai Refinery.

The role involves leading a group of process engineers to achieve timely completion of process activities for various new projects. Presently I am handling the following projects.

1. The Green Fuels and Emission Control (GFEC) Project
2. Revamp of Existing Diesel Hydrotreater to achieve EURO III specifications of diesel.
3. Installation of Sea water cooling towers at Mumbai Refinery

Green Fuels and Emission Control project is a mega project and is being put up to meet the future fuel specifications (EURO IV) and also to increase the Refining capacity of Mumbai Refinery. The major facilities being put up under this project are:

- Naphtha Splitter
- Naphtha Hydrotreater
- Continuous Catalytic Reformer (Licensor: UOP)
- Light Naphtha Hydrotreater & Isomerization unit (Licensor: Axens)
- FCC Naphtha Hydrotreating unit (Licensor: Axens)
- FCC Revamp
- Flue Gas Desulphurization Unit (Licensor: BELCO)
- CDU / VDU Revamp
- Additional Utility and Offsite facilities

My job responsibilities include Preparation of Detailed Feasibility report of the project, Preparation of tender document for selection of licensors for various licensed units, Giving technical recommendations for selection of licensors, Finalization of Design Basis for various units / offsites & utilities, Review of Process Flow Diagrams, P&IDs & other process documents generated by Licensors, Coordination with licensors & detailed engineering contractors for various process design related issues, Review of detailed engineering documents & tenders for equipment, development of process schemes for integration of new facilities with existing facilities, Checking conformance of new installed facilities with P&IDs and process specifications, Preparing operating manuals, Providing technical support during start-up and commissioning activities.

-March 1997 – June 2002: Worked as Dy. Manager – Projects Process of Mumbai Refinery.

Job responsibilities included Process Design for new projects. Process design activities involve development of mass and Energy balance, Preparation of Process Flow Diagrams, P&IDs, Equipment specifications, Instrument specifications etc. using various international / national guidelines and codes.

Up to June 2001, I was responsible for Process Design related activities for DHDS (Diesel Hydrodesulfurization Project), which was commissioned in March 2000. Under This project the sulfur specification of the diesel pool at Mumbai Refinery was brought down to 0.25 wt% from a level of 1.0 wt%. A number of Process Units were put up along with various utilities and offsites facilities under this project. The major Process Units put up were:

- Diesel Hydrodesulfurization Unit (DHDSU), which was licensed by M/s. UOP, USA.
- Hydrogen Generation Unit, Which was licensed by HTAS A/S, Denmark.
- Sulfur Recovery Unit, Which was licensed by KTI, Italy
- Sour Water Stripping Unit
- Amine Treatment Unit
- Amine Regeneration Unit
- Condensate Recovery Unit

The offsites and Utilities Put up under this project included:
- Compressed Air System
- Cooling water (sea) system
- Flare system
- DM Water Plant
- Nitrogen plant based on cryogenic separation
- Fresh Water System
- Steam Network
- Fuel oil system
- Fuel gas system and LPG vaporizing unit

This Project was put up as a LSTK Project. My job responsibilities included review of PFDs, P&IDs, Process package developed by licensors / consultants and interaction with various outside agencies for statutory approvals. Providing technical back up during commissioning of various units / systems. Deciding tie-ins for hooking up new systems to the existing refinery systems etc.

After commissioning of the Project, I was responsible for monitoring various units till the project was handed over to the Operating Group.

After DHDS Project, I was made in-charge of the following major Projects:
- Green Fuels and Emission Control Project (GFECP) of Mumbai Refinery: Under this project the study was conducted to develop the most optimum configuration for Mumbai Refinery to meet the future specs and maximize the profitability.
- DHDS – II: Under this project the existing DHDS Unit is being debottlenecked to achieve 350 ppm 'S' level in the total diesel pool of Mumbai Refinery.
- Relocation of cooling towers: Under this project new cooling towers are being put up at a different location than that of present cooling towers.
- Expansion and modernization of Eastern Refinery Limited (ERL), Bangla Desh: I was mainly responsible for carrying out the debottlenecking study for existing units in ERL.

- March'94 – Feb.'97: Worked as Sr. Engineer – Projects Process of Mumbai Refinery.

During this period, I was responsible for Process Design related activities for Hexane Treating Project. This is the first Project of its kind put up in the world based on the technology developed jointly by IIP and HPCL. I carried out the entire process design based on the pilot plant test run data using process design software like PRO II, Hextran, and Inplant. For this project, I have been awarded CSIR award in year 2001. Hindstan Petroleum Corporation also was awarded Golden Peacock Award for this project.

- Oct.'89 – Feb,' 94.: Worked as Engineer– Projects Process of Mumbai Refinery.

During this period, I was responsible for Process Design related activities for Lube Refinery Expansion – II Project. Under This project following new units were put up to increase the production of Lube Base Stocks (LOBS) at Mumbai Refinery:

- Solvent Extraction Unit (using NMP solvent)
- Hydrofiner Unit
- Hydrogen Unit
- Debottling of existing Propane Dewaxing Unit (PDU)

I was responsible to prepare Process Specifications for various equipment / instruments for solvent extraction unit and hydrofiner units.

Process Simulation Experience: I am familiar with process simulation software e.g. PRO-II, HEXTRAN, INPLANT & HYSIS and have used these software extensively for carrying out process design jobs.

OTHER INFORMATION: I am familiar with various codes & standards followed for process design & development of process specifications of various equipment.

Abroad Visits:
I have visited following countries on various official assignments:

- USA – Two Times, once in year 1998 for reviewing the operations of an operating VGO hydro desulphurization unit and again in year 2002 for review of Process Flow Diagrams prepared by M/s. UOP for DHDS-II Project.

- Bangladesh – Visited to conduct a configuration study for their Eastern Refinery Limited in Chittagong in year 2002.

- France – Two Times, once for reviewing the Process Flow Diagrams and again for reviewing P&IDs prepared by M/s. Axens for Isomerization unit and FCC Gasoline Hydrotreating unit in year 2004.
