Tailings Leach Plant

The Tailings Leach Plant (TLP) is a hydrometallurgical plant, which treats both reclaimed and current concentrator tails. Under the training programme I am going through the: Material preparation sections where there is basically density build up by monitoring the thickener torque, rake height, flocculation and thickener underflow. Leaching section monitored parameters such as air blown, pH, and ensure that at least 78% of the copper in the tails is leached. CCD and Clarification – to ensure that the copper being sent to the SX meet the specified amount, pH, minimum TSS etc. HBF – trained and operated in which parameters such as wash water, flocculation, feed rates, vacuum from the pumps were monitored.
Understanding the operations of the Solvent Extraction (SX) plant which included the monitoring of organic and aqueous flow rates, O/A ratio both on the extraction and stripping stages, the strip and extraction kinetics, pH and degree of agitation. To ensure that the raffinate contain the minimum copper levels as possible and the advance electrolyte to contain the desired solute, copper and reduced TSS prior to the electro winning of the metal.
To know the Tank-House operations viz tank loading, electrolyte flows, additives, copper tenor controls both in the spent and advance electrolyte. pulling of cathodes, cathode inspection and their ultimate preparation for export.
