Responsibilities included:
•    Preparing an overall pressure profile diagram including safeguarding requirements for the entire compression facility. This included confirmation of line and nozzle sizes.
•    Developing thermosyphon hydraulic models for all reboiler operations in the entire facility (De-ethanizer operation, Refrigeration operation). This included the analysis of safety factors using slip density, determination of skirt heights, and reboiler inlet and outlet line sizes.
•    Sizing Vessels for the entire facility. This included sizing horizontal, vertical and three-phase separators.
•    Sizing control valves for the entire facility. This included sizing compressor recycle valves for both flow and capacity control. Furthermore, also involved with the preparation of Process instrumentation data sheets for control valves, flow meters, ESD valves, etc.
•    Developing De-ethanizer tower internals. This included confirming baffle height and spacing requirements, location of chimney trays, tray spacing requirements, nozzle and distributor projections, etc.
•    Developing spreadsheets in Excel for Vessel sizing, control valve sizing, thermosyphon hydraulics, pressure profile calculations and depressuring valve sizing.
•    Conducting HYSIM simulations for thermosyphon loops at various levels of vaporization.
•    Developing plant-wide depressuring strategy. This included performing depressuring calculations based on system settle-out and operating conditions. Furthermore, also built a dynamic HYSIM simulation model for parallel depressuring to study the heat cross-exchange effect between the cold and hot depressuring systems.
•    Involved with material selection issues for the entire facility.

•    Assisting Senior Engineers with Process Simulations. This included designing Run Down Product Coolers by using process simulation software like ProVision and HYSIM. Furthermore, also involved in sizing Heat Exchangers using the Shell and Tube Heat Exchanger Sizing program (STX).
•    Conducting Process Engineering Studies and test runs on existing and future Oil and Gas Upgrading Facilities. This included the preparation of test run report for the Sour Water Stripper Operation at Suncor’s Base Plant Facility. Developed a ProVision Simulation of this operation to model the test run data.
•    Preparing Process Flow Diagrams (PFD), Process Data Sheets and related calculations for Design Basis Memorandum (DBM) and Engineering Design Specification (EDS) phase. This included developing the PFD and performing preliminary hydraulic calculations of the existing and new Tankage facility and the Cooling Tower Water system. Also Involved in the Development of the PFD, and associated Process Data Sheets for the Nitrogen Distribution Network. This included reviewing plant-wide utility summaries to estimate Nitrogen Demand.
•    Preparing MRQ and MRP (Material Requisition for Quotation and Purchase) for process instrumentation equipment such as Vortex Meters, Orifice Plates, Flow Indicators, Rotameters, Electronic Transmitters, and Thermowells. Vortex meters were sized using the Fisher and Yokogawa Flow sizing software, Orifice Plates were sized using the Flowel software.
•    Interface with Vendors for equipment selection and design related issues.
