ENGINEER FINAL PROJECT

Steady and unsteady flow simulation at the nozzle and moving blade first row that resulted from the designed of impulse turbine six pressure stage, With capacity 12,8 MW

This Rateau turbine is designed to operate at initial steam condition that enter turbine of 60 bar & 465oC and at final steam condition that exit turbine of 0,11 bar. This turbine is built to operate as a prime mover for an alternator of 12,8 MW capacity at a shaft speed of 6000 rpm. From the initial and final condition, using Mollier diagram (enthalpy-entropy diagram) we estimated that there will be six pressure stage. Each stage consists of one nozzle and one moving blade. At this final project, we analyze thermodynamically for each stage. Then we designed the nozzle and moving blade dimensions. For the rotor, shaft, and bearing each stage, we just analyze the material strength. Then we draw the entire turbine component using Mechanical Desktop or AutoCAD, so we can see if it had appropriate dimensions. From the thermodynamic analysis, we will get the entrance and exit steam condition for each stage. This entrance and exit steam condition data for each stage will become initial data for fluent 5.2 that will simulate the steam condition around the nozzle and moving blade.

At this final project, fluent 5.2 will analyze the velocity distribution and pressure distribution around nozzle and moving blade for the first row of steam turbine. The simulation considered for steady and unsteady flow. Fluent 5.2 can also analyze the power that each stage could establish. This result then compared to the power that we get from thermodynamic analysis.

We also made animation for velocity distribution and pressure distribution from 1 second until 30 second using macromedia flash 5, so we can find out when was the distribution will have stable distribution.
