Head of Facility Engineering – Assam Asset, ONGC
Responsible for major revamping / upgradation / augmentation of facilities and creation of new facilities at Assam Asset which has a large number of mature fields and a few recent discoveries.

The job involves conceptual design, FEED package preparation, preparation of bid package, tendering and job execution for the afore-mentioned works partly through in-house efforts with the help of a team of engineers and partly through external consultancy services.

A few of the highlighted projects are listed below:
Revamping of two of the oldest GGSs (Conceptual study and FEED completed, Bid package preparation in progress)
Augmentation and revamping of facilities of one GGS to handle well fluid and water injection system of an adjacent field recently discovered (ongoing: expected completion –May '05)
Augmentation of gas compression and water injection facility of a mature field for improved oil recovery (Conceptual study completed, FEED ongoing)
Construction of an EPS for a field at remote location (completed)
Augmentation of facilities for converting an EPS to a GGS to cope with the revised production profile (conceptual study completed, FEED in progress)
Upgradation of crude dehydration facilities for achieving < 0.2 % BS&W (ongoing)

2002-2004 ONGC
Field Manager - Oil and Gas Fields
Operation and Management of five onshore Group Gathering Stations, one Effluent Treatment Plant, two Early Production Systems, one Gas Compressor Plant and one Water Injection Plant. The field being very old, challenges are faced on a daily basis to solve complex problems related to wells, plants & equipment, human resources and environmental factors.

Commissioned an idle LP Gas Compressor Plant to increase oil production and reduce gas flaring. Completed installation and commissioning of two EPSs on a fast track basis.
Several small projects at hand to improve productivity, efficiency, safety and housekeeping of the Oil and Gas Fields.
Initiated the process of making documentation and implementation of a Quality, Safety, Health and Environment Management System.
Interaction with sub-surface team and well services teams for revival of sick wells, testing and completion of wells is a part of the job.

1992-2002 ONGC
Project Manager – Special Projects
Notable Projects:
NF Riser Replacement Project: Replacement of existing 26" gas and 30" oil risers at platform, installation of subsea isolation valves including topside instrumentation and controls, subsea expansion loop and topside piping and modification of pig launcher. A Remotely Operated Isolation Tool was used for the first time in subsea pipeline under high pressure (900 psi) for isolating the pipeline that allowed continuous production form downstream platforms while revamping work upstream of the pipeline was in progress.
The job involved rigorous planning for minimising production shutdown. One of the several challenging tasks was proving pigging of the lines that had little pigging history and that were suspected to be having presence of wax deposits/debris and physical obstructions in the fittings. Gauge pigging was successfully carried out up to about 450 meters from the launcher and the pigs were retrieved back into the launcher. Several experimental and innovative pig design and methodology were evolved for this operation. A well stimulation vessel was used for driving and retrieving the pigs.

Intervention on live lines and construction work on a live platform called for extraordinary safety precaution with several risk analysis and HAZOP studies. JSA prior to each critical operation was also conducted at offshore installation sites.
Project Value: US$ 23.26 Million

Acoustic inspection of submarine pipelines totaling over 2000 km for survey of gross damage, debris, free spans, cross-over status, etc. using ROTV equipped with duel frequency side scan sonar, sub-bottom profiler, echo-sounder, video and still camera, hydrographic positioning system and state-of-the-art data acquisition system.
Project Value: US$ 1.73 Million

Sectional Replacement of three 12" submarine pipelines of 2100m, 1200m and 500m length using lay barge for pipe laying and DSV for end connections with mechanical connectors. These pipelines had developed multiple leaks due to internal corrosion.
* Project Value: US$ 2.3 Million

Structural revamping of one flare jacket in Bombay High. The job involved replacement of topside structural members and heat shields, retrofitting of anodes, strengthening of riser in splash zone, marine growth removal and overall inspection of the jacket. Time being the constraint as the work was required to be carried out during planned shutdown period, two MSVs were deployed and the entire work was completed in 4-1/2 days.
* Project Value: US$ 0.7 Million

Computerisation of Jacket Inspection System - A software package was developed in a client-server hardware environment for storage, retrieval and analysis of inspection data for the entire 173 jackets and over 700 risers using latest available hardware and software.
* Project Value: US$ 0.4 Million

Lifting of 2.4 Km long 4" dia flexible pipe and relaying the same at another location inclusive of dynamic riser and rigid pipe on platform deck for enhanced oil recovery through gas lift operation.
( Association with this Project was in a major way, but not in the capacity of Project Manager/Coordinator )

On deck piping modification at unmanned platforms in Neelam field in Bombay Offshore to facilitate early production as the installation and commissioning of the associated platform complexes got considerably delayed. Project Value: US$ 0.7 Million

Review of Inspection reporting requirements for platforms and pipelines and positioning of MSVs for covering fire-fighting and safety requirements of all installations in Bombay Offshore. This study involved risk categorisation of platforms based on HAZOP analysis.

1990-1992 ONGC

Inspection, Maintenance and Repair of 32 Offshore Jackets ( with 3-8 legs ), submarine pipelines, over 300 risers and 5 CALM systems in water depth ranging from 55 – 80 meter,
Responsibility included planning, resource mobilisation, monitoring and co-ordination for execution of jobs, contract management, preparation of various reports pertaining to the vessel, invoice processing and budget monitoring.
