Electrician/Instrumentation Technician
I started at this combined cycle plant while it was under construction and was involved with all 4 start-ups. The site is owned by NRG/XCEL Energy. I am currently a Control/Instrumentation/Electrical Tech. I interface with operating much of the time as I have gas turbine operating experience. This site has 4 GE. Frame 7FA Gas units, Evap coolers, steam augmentation, Mark 5 GE controls, Foxboro DCS. I have taken all GE courses in association with the Frame 7's, including the (LCI) Load Commutated Inverter and the EX-2000.
1999-May 2001 Midwest Generation Aurora, IL
Fast Start Peaker Technician
* Midwest Generation purchased Commonwealth Edison Fossil Division and Peaker sites in December of 1999. At that time I transferred to the Fast Start Peaking Unit in Aurora, Illinois.
* In this self directed position I am responsible for 12 units GE 5 L & M units @ 18 MW each. These units were natural gas or oil. At this site and the other frame sites I operated all gas turbines and did maintenance on them. I did combustion inspections, can change outs, worked on igniters, flame detectors, cross-fire tubes etc. The sites I was associated with had Westinghouse WDPF and Westinghouse Ovation Controls.
* Maintain a clearance log and use an out of service procedure.
1984-1999 ComEd, Collins Generating Station Morris,IL
Power Plant Electrician 'A'
* Station comprised of 5 steam turbines (gas/oil fuel) of 550 MW each.
* Maintain and repair uninteruptible power systems (UPS), ACS systems, and DC systems, batteries circuits, etc. Have experience on 24KV, 12 KV, 6.9KV and 3-phase systems, including 480 volt. Have knowledge of testing and maintaining motors (AC and DC) and control circuits as well as power circuits. Have had experience in P/M in distribution systems outages, maintenance, etc. In this position I had ownership of switchhgear which was General Electric Magna-Blast 6.9 breakers and G.E. 480 volt AK type draw out breakers and associated equipment.
* Inspect, maintain, dismantle, repair, alter, and reassemble such electrical equipment as motors, circuit breakers, control equipment, relays, signal, assemblies, trolleys, switches, rectifiers, and refrigeration equipment, involving laying out of the work and using power tools and precision gauges.
* Test and clear faults on electrical circuits, reading and working from circuit diagrams.
* Instruct, train and coordinate the work of other electricians.
