Sasol Petroleum International:
Since my transfer from Sasol Synfuels I have been employed by Sasol Petroleum International as a Control Room Panel Operator, on a rotation basis within Mozambique. The CPF (Central Processing Facility) is designed to process up to a maximum of 350 mmscf/d of gas and it's associated condensate. The Feed Gas being supplied to the CPF, where the gas is processed, from a number of remotely located Wellheads.
Control and operation of the process units in the CPF is undertaken via the Delta V – DCS.
It is my responsibility to monitor and control all operating parameters from the DCS, whereby the maximum use of automation was introduced to minimise manning levels required, for a safe and efficient operation.

Gas Dehydration (Escher), Hydrocarbon Dew point Control (Grenco)
MAN Turbo HP Gas Compressors (Gas turbine), Daniels Custody Metering
Gas/liquid Separation, Condensate Stabilization
SOLAR Centor 50 Generators (Gas turbine), Nitrogen generators
Effluent storage – Sewage system, Sewage Treatment Package
Fuel gas system, Atlas Copco air compressors and dryers
Potable Water system – water treatment plant, Fire water system
Condensate Stabilisation Unit, Chemical Dosing skid.

Commencing my employment on 5th March 1990 as Process Controller grd.2, I was promoted to SPC on 21st October 1991.
I worked at Synthol West, where catalyst reactors convert process gas into oil.
I was responsible for the initialization and shutdown of the Synthol trains (CFB's-Catalyst Fluidized Bed Reactor or SAS- Sasol Advanced Synthol reactors).
I was involved with the Commissioning and Startup of the new 10,7metre and 8metre SAS-reactors, which were the first in history to take gas for this size of SAS-reactors.
As outside SPC (Lead operator), I was responsible for gas testing and ensuring safe permit controlled conditions. As acting group leader any shift upsets were dealt with and the right decisions made in all circumstances.
I was also responsible for control of the PTW system, Disciplinary actions, Plant training etc…
