EXPERIENCE:
March 2003 – Present: Finance Officer P/T, Groundwork Northwest, Manchester

Responsible for auditing and reconciling quarterly financial claims and funding applications for the ENWORKS £20m, a North West Development Agency (NWDA) supported programme. This involves co-ordinating and communicating with different parties to ensure claims meet the required standards and budget constraints. I have developed and introduced standards and procedures for compiling claims. I am also responsible for organising and maintaining records of all claims finances.

I also contribute effectively in submitting claims of the Resource Efficiency Programme (REP) to the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and NWDA. This involves collating and reconciling data from different sources and presenting them in a standard spreadsheets and forms as well as processing and keeping records of all programme's transactions.

I am also a member of the Finance Group of the Finance Managers in Groundwork North West and extend support in writing meeting minutes as well as other tasks as required.

June 1999 – July 2000: Accounts and Administration Officer, Ocean Energy (Yemen):

Ocean Energy, was the 7th largest oil and gas exploration company in the world, is based in Houston in the US. It has recently merged with Devon Inc. and formed a new Devon Energy Inc. When it initiated its exploration operations in Yemen in 1999, I was the first and the only person selected to set up and run the accounts and finance department and became a key-member of the management board.

I was solely responsible for the management of company's accounts and finances. This included preparing and reconciling monthly financial statements and reporting to the HQ, forecasting and preparing cash budgets in US$ and local currency, monitoring exchange and inflation rates to avoid losses on local currency transfer requirements and processing fund transfers overseas. I was also responsible for all the day-to-day financial transactions including petty cash custody, Bank accounts reconciliation, preparing payroll and transfers to staff bank accounts locally and abroad, verifying and processing payments, maintaining records of fixed assets and all other accounts records. I also participated in preparing employment contracts of new staff, in addition to many other accounting and administration, translation and interpretation tasks.

The work extremely intensified during the drilling and exploration period but I could cope with the heavy loads of work for which I received appreciation letters and financial rewards from the company. The company initially sponsored my CIMA studies before it had to withdraw from Yemen in 2001.
November 1997–April 1999: Registrar and Office Manager, The British Council (Aden):

This centre was re-opened after 25 years. I was particularly selected to play this important role in the Aden newly established centre for my previous work experience with the British Council as Assistant Librarian, promoted to Registrar between 1990 – 1994 as well as for my background in the area. I was the second person in charge of management and I had diversified responsibilities, which included many financial, administration and public relations issues. I also contributed effectively in setting up the centre facilities and procurements.

I was responsible for registering students for English courses, issuing receipts of funds and invoicing, reconciling and compiling monthly financial statements and sending to HQ, managing four local staff, Managing day-to-day financial transactions, co-ordinating and communicating with teachers, students, sponsors, parents, local authorities. I was responsible for issuing end-of-course student performance reports and certificates. I was preparing course flyers and ensure publicity in the local media about the various activities of the council. I was also involved in organising and co-ordination for cultural events and performing translation and interpretation when required.

October 1994 – October 1994: Accountant, Translator/Interpreter, The GTZ (Yemen):

The GTZ is a German Organisation for international technical development. I was the first local staff employed for this job in the new project of advisory services vocational training project in Yemen and become the most senior local staff and the line manger of junior local staff. I contributed effectively in the setting up of project's offices and in the procurement of equipment.

I was responsible for all project finance and accounts and the custodian of funds. This involves verifying invoices and payments, finalising contracts and TOR with STE and contractors in accordance with the GTZ's regulations.

I was responsible for co-ordinating with counterparts, VTC's mangers, chambers of commerce and many senior officers in the private and public sectors regarding various activities and events and ensuring logistical support is available.
I was responsible for also for performing interpretation in meetings, seminars, workshops and conferences as well as translating various types of documents and articles.
