Presently working in Occidental Petroleum Qatar Limited as a Sr. Mechanical Technician
Since November 2004.
Worked with Shell Petroleum Development Company, Nigeria as a Mechanical Supervisor for two years.
Prior to this I was working in the Gas Plant of Conoco Syria Dez Gas Ltd., CSDGL, Syria as a Supervisor responsible for Nuovo PignoneTurbines and Centrifugal Compressor Maintenance for six months.
I have also worked on an FPSO ( Floating Production Storage and Offloading) based at Equatorial Guinea offshore as a Maintenance Supervisor for a period of one year.
Before these short stints in CSDGL and On the FPSO which were due to better prospects I worked in Al- Furrat Petroleum Company Syria as A senior Mechanical technician from October 1995 and later on promoted to a Supervisor from March 1999 till October 2000.
I have a total experience of 16 years after completion of a three-year trade
Diploma from Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd., India. I also served in the same
Organization from 1986 to 1995 as a Mechanical Technician.

FACILITIES IN GAS PLANT
Gas pant consists of NGL Extraction, LPG fractionation, export gas compression, power generation, ethylene glycol injection, propane purification, hot oil system, fuel gas system and a pre-cooling unit.

DUTIES AS A SR. TECHNICIAN
1) To carry out preventive maintenance as per the Impower system of
Scheduled maintenance.
2) To carry out trouble shooting, break down maintenance and pre-
Ventive maintenance of Rotating and Static equipment's in the gas
Plant such as:

Centrifugal Compressor – Dresser Rand – For Gas compression
Nuovo Pignone

Gas Turbines - Solar
Centaur type H – Power Generation,
- Nuovo Pignone - Gas Compression,
- Alstom, Tornado - Water Injection pump

Air Compressor - Broom wade, - Instrument /Utility air
Ingersoll Rand,
Air Dyne.
Pumps - Union, Gould, - Process requirement
Kerr, Sulzer.

Fin Fans - Hudson - Cooling

Gear Box - Allen, Solar - Reduction between
Solar Turbines and Driven.
Heat Exchanger - Hudson - Gas Cooling

Any other Mechanical Jobs concerned in the Refinery and Gas plant.

DUTIES AS A SUPERVISOR

1) Determine material requirements and order using procurement system such as EMA (electronic material administration), includes raising of MIV (material issue voucher) and MR (material Requisition)

2) Demonstrate problem solving skills both technical and non technical

3) Promote high level of safety awareness, by completion of unsafe act reports / near miss reports/tool box talk.

4) Ability to manage resources, Manpower, materials and equipment

5) Has the necessary skills to analyse plant equipment and process
Problems and develop solution.

6) Maintain daily records, execute the 14-day plan, prepare permit in
Accordance with the permit to work plan, complete all outstanding work orders.

7) Possess an acceptable level of PC literacy.

8) Demonstrate the ability to compile and communicate end of shift workCycle and hand over to a satisfactory standard.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

As a Sr. technician/ Supervisor developed the following skills.

Worked with confidence and independently on all rotating equipment, which includes complete strip down and preventive maintenance of the same.

1. PUMPS:
Makes: Hayward Tyler, Gould, Nuovo pignone, Kerr, Sundyne,
Stork Pacific, Sulzer Bingham etc.

Trouble shooting and fault findings on pump failure.
Overhauled all types of pumps such as Centrifugal, Reciprocating and Rotary pumps.

a) Obtaining a complete check list of the dismantled equipment and
Keep a record of the same.

b) Inspect the condition of rotating parts namely shaft, sleeve, impeller,
Oil deflectors, coupling and stationary parts such as casing, stuffing box, distance piece, and bearing housing.

c) Renewal of Mechanical Seals, checking wear ring and throat bush
Clearances.

d) Maintaining the required float in multistage pumps, check end play.
e) Checking the endplay, squareness and concentricity using a dial guage while pump assembly.
f) Hydro test of pumps to determine mechanical seal and casing leaks.

2. MECHANICAL SEALS:

Makes: John Crane, BorgWarner, Flexibox.

Refurbished all types of single, double, tandem and cartridge seals, Having single, multi-spring and bellows.
Renewed packings, seal faces and maintained operating length lapping seal faces to the required finish.

3. GAS TURBINES

Make: Solar Centaur type H split shaft and single shaft, Solar Saturn
Generator sets.
Alstom Tornado Duel fuel twin shaft
Nuovo Pignone twin shaft.
PLC: Enhanced 5/20, 5/15

Involved in minor, intermediate and major servicing and inspections.
Familiar with fault diagonistics, repairs and overhauls of auxiliary equipment, trouble calls and instant response.
Knowledge of basic turbotronic 2.0 using Allen Bradley PLC

Carried out Combustion Inspection, hot gas path inspection and also involved in complete strip down and change outs of HP and LP rotors
Of Nuovo Pignone Gas Turbines.

1) Periodic servicing of gas Turbines which includes replacing filters of lube oil, fuel electohydraulic start system and enclosure/ intake duct.
2) Inspection of Igniter plug, torch assembly, fuel injector and bleed valve
3) Simulation of Inlet Guide Vanes to check for max / min open.
4) Borescopic inspection to determine condition of stator, rotor blades
And Combustion chambers.
5) Water wash of Turbine, note the following prior to and after Water wash, a) Turbine Rotor speed b) Ambient temperature c) Engine T5 temp d) Compressor discharge Pressure (Pcd)
e) Simulate Ngp speed, T5 temperature and check operation of back
Up overspeeds switch using Solar test Kit.

TROUBLE SHOOTING:
Trouble shoot problems in the package with the aid of Allen Bradley programme such as:
Fail to ignite, Fail to start, Fail to crank, T5 temperature hi, Lube oil
Pressure low, Ngp overspeed, Npt break away, fail to accelerate, does
Not change over to liquid, Hunting, Failure of magnetic speed pick up etc.

Carried out engine change out after 35,000 hrs running.
Alignment of Turbine and compressor in case of Mechanical drives,
And turbine and gear box in case of generators

4. CENTRIFUGAL COMPRESSORS
Make: Dresser rand 2508B, Nuovo Pignone.

Involved in complete strip down and re assembly of centrifugal compressor.
a) Removal and assembly of Rotor bundle.
b) Inspection of diaghpragms, diffuser, thrust and radial bearings.
c) Maintaining overlap and axial float between stages d) Renewal of 'O'rings.
e) Locate position of rotor assembly and proper installation of gas seals.
f) Removal and reinstall journal bearings, thrust bearings and thrust disc.
g) Fit back Rtd's, axial and radial probes h) Use of special tools for Bundle removal /installation.

5. AIR COMPRESSORS
Make: Broomwade, Ingersoll rand, William and James, Atlas Copco.

Preventive maintenance and complete overhauling of compressors used for instrument air, utility air and to produce Nitrogen a) Replacing piston rings, guide rings, rod packings and adjustment of
TDC and BDC.
b) Replacing main bearings and big end bearings.
c) Refurbishment of suction and discharge valves.
d) Renewal of cylinder liner.
e) Worked on the unloader device of compressor.
f) Refurbished screw compressors.
Trouble shooting such as long interval between load and unload, low lube oil pressure, psv releasing, belts breaking, cooling water pump fault, inter cooler and after cooler leakage.

6. DIESEL ENGINES
Make: Caterpillar, lister, perkins.

Preventive maintenance and strip down of diesel and gas engines.
a) Fault diagonistic after compression test to detect leaking piston rings,
Valves, head gaskets or excessive carbon deposits on combustion chamber.
b) Renewal of cylinder heads, piston, liners, connecting rods, bearing and seals.
c) Check axial float, crank deflection, cam shaft, flywheel and turbo
Charger.
d) Adjust valve lash and replace Fuel injectors.

Periodic maintenance of diesel engine which involves changing sump oil,
Air filters, breathers, oil filters and radiator coolant.

7. GEAR BOX AND FIN FANS
Worked on Gearboxes, checking condition of low speed and high-speed shaft gears.
Check backlash and axial float.

Worked on Fin Fan coolers in the refinery and Gas Plant.
Motors to fan pulley alignment, replacement of belts, alter blade angle and routine maintenance.

8. VALVES:
Make: Cipeg, Cameroon, Argus, Crosby, Valgrove and Powell.

Overhauled all kinds of valves including Gate valves, Globe Valves, Needle valves and pressure and safety valves.
Renewal of valve seats or lapping of seats, change packings, caliberate and set required pressure for pressure and safety valves.

9. STATIC EQUIPMENTS
Worked on Static equipments such as Heat Exchangers, Columns and Vessels. Assisted in removal and refit of Tube bundle.
