PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
2006 - Current
DRILLING SUPERINTENDENT, GAZ DE FRANCE ALGERIA (consultant rotational position)
- Started as Drilling Engineer, then promoted to Superintendent. Exploration land project in Touat field, operated from Hassi Messaoud. The project run one rig to drill several wells. Responsibilities were to lead operations from Hassi Messaoud, having one drilling engineer and a fluids engineer reporting to this position. Leading key operational meetings, responsible also for the communications with the upper management in Paris. Key link between rig site and the headquarter. Head of Gaz de France in Hassi Messaoud.
2005
Lead Drilling Engineer, Repsol Exploration Project, Iran.
- Two wells to be drilled in the waters of the Persian Gulf. I am in charge of the Well Design, Drelivery of the Drilling Programme, Procurement and Tendering of goods and services. This posiotion is served from Madrid, having a local support office in Tehran, where I often travel.
2004-2005
Asset Team Evaluation For New Ventures, Madrid
- Several blocks and fields were analised. The main one was The Tambay field in the Russian Arctic, a Super Giant gas-condensate field in which Repsol YPF acquired an important stake. The project includes Estimation of reserves, Field Development design and cost estimates, primary treatment facilities, in field pipeline, Export Pipelines, LPG Facility and LNG plant. In parallel it was done the Transportation and Commercialisation evaluations.
2003-2004
Drilling Engineer In The Cuba Deepwater Well Yamagua. Wellsite Engineer
- I started in the Procurement phase, scouting services and rig, making up the tenders, evaluating and negotiating them. I also led the well design and the set up of the drilling program. Finally, I was following the operations both from the office and the rig site. It was a very challenging project due to the particular Embargo Issue, which excluded most of the traditional service contractors, and the fact that it was the first Offshore well in Cuban waters ever.
2002-2003
Drilling Engineer In The Corporative Technical Staff Division, Madrid
- Leader of the Drilling Community of Practice. I had to build up the Community from start. I organized the first two annual workshops of the whole Repsol Drilling Community.
- Assistant in Multidisciplinary Teams for Evaluation of Assets for acquisition. Outstanding Project: Gassi Touil, Algeria, which Repsol YPF won.
- Coordinator for the Well Construction Management project. The WCM intends to be a web based interactive platform for the well construction in a systematic way. It includes templates for standard documents, links to manuals and company Policies, a guided risk register, and management audit tools such as indicators of advance and approval check points.
2001-2002
Offshore Leader Repsol YPF South Division
- Feasibility Study of the Restinga Alí Block, offshore Comodoro Rivadavia. between August 2001adFeruary2002.
2000-2001
Drilling Operations And Procurement Leader Offshore Brazil.
Wellsite Supervisor
- Repsol-YPF as the operator of Block BES-3 drilled two exploratory offshore wells. The job had the responsibility of contracting all services including drilling rig and the procurement of all the equipment inside and outside Brazil. During the operations I worked as Company Man at the wellsite.
2000
Drilling Engineer Wellsite Off Shore Trinidad & Tobago
- A Joint Venture between Repsol-YPF and BP-Amoco. Exploration Wells Drilled from a Semi-Submersible Rig. Well Site. January – March 2000.
1999
Drilling Engineer YPF - Ecuador
- YPF–IPM Schlumberger Alliance. Directional and Horizontal wells. The position was to supervise the execution phase of the alliance project in order to reduce the time and costs of the construction of the wells. The objective was accomplished reducing the drilling cost in more than 15%.
1999
Deep Water Trainning Drilling Engineer Sedco Forex – Off Shore – Brazil
- Interchange Program YPF - IPM Schlumberger. Three months in Semi-Submersible Rig Sedco 710 in Campos Basin, Brazil.
1998
Technology Coordinator South Division YPF S.A. (San Jorge Basin)
- Quality Management System. During this position, I conducted the meetings for the quality control of four services: Cementing, Drilling Fluids, Wireline Logging and Stimulation. Also strongly involved with the contracts of those services in order to fit the performance management through them.
- Slim Hole Development Project. I was asked by the president of the company to develop a lifting system for producing a slim well in the basin. The system was tested and implemented. Then it was presented at the SPE (Society of Petroleum Engineers) and finally patented in several countries. I received the award for "The Best Creative Technical Idea" of the year in YPF-Maxus.
- Rig less Completion Project. Completion Cost of new wells was reduced in 18% when using this technique. The conventional completion process was re-engineered so it was done without the need of a rig. Instead, a Coiled Tubing unit, a swabbing truck and special bridge plugs were used, and we got convenient arrangements with the corresponding services companies.
- Underbalanced Drilling Project. Introduction of a semi-automatic rig to drill underbalanced for the first time in the basin. The objective of the project was to introduce these technologies at the same cost of the conventional drilling jobs.
- Oil chemical treatment cost was significantly reduced by introducing a system of follow up indicators and then convenient arrangements with service companies based on volume of crude treated to specifications.
- Conduction and organization of the Monthly Technology Meeting. Involving all the managers of the South Division and the Vice-president of Technology.
1996/1997
Reservoir Special Studies Leader, Las Heras Business Unit, South Division Ypf S.A. (San Jorge Basin)
The position consisted in forming a team with specialists of several disciplines (Reservoir, Completion, Drilling and Production) and leading it to analyse the development and lifting cost in order to find ways to reduce them.
Also, with this team, I introduced a Quality Management System for four different services, in which the volume of work was strongly depending on the performance.
1995
Reservoir Engineer, Chuihuido De La Sierra Negra Field, Neuquen Basin YPF S.A.
