Occidental of Oman May'03 – Sept'03
Talisman Buchan Alpha Offshore PIE Feb'02-Sep'02

Flow Assurance
Conoco UK Ltd – Brittania Satellite Project
Dynamic analysis of subsea tieback pipeline system for transportation of three phase fluids from a new field 28 km back to the Britannia platform. Investigation of cool down, thermal insulation requirements, start-up of gas cap were considered. Operability of the system and flow assurance in terms of potential for slugging during normal operation and ramp up were assessed along with terrain induced slugging mitigation techniques.

ExxonMobil - Nevis Central Flow Assurance Study
Transient Analysis of the new NCL well tied back to the Beryl 'B' platform. Analysis considered: Steady state operation of the flowline, shutdown & cool down, well ramp-up following an extended shutdown, slugging potential and mitigation.

BP - Forties Echo Subsea solution
Performed a series of steady state (PIPESIM) simulations for a subsea tieback to the Forties Alpha platform. The analysis assessed the sensitivity to gas lift rates, well location, minimum insulation. The study was then taken further to dynamically determine the slugging profile of the well(s). The production separator capacity was determined and assessed for the new well slugging requirements.

Shell - NAM Field Development Study
Thermal and hydraulic review of new subsea flowline transporting a subsea tieback to existing facilities.

CSO/SOEKOR - Sable Flow Assurance Study
Initial sizing and thermo-hydraulic analysis (PIPESIM) of the production, water injection and gas lift flowlines to and from a Bluewater FPSO offshore South Africa.

Operations Support
Talisman - Buchan Under-balanced Drilling Production Interface Engineer
The P.I.E was responsible for managing the interface between coil tubing drilling activities and production. This project was a world first. This offshore post required: Attendance and contribution to interface risk assessments during the planning phase, verification of newly installed circulation system prior to commissioning and co-ordination of the commissioning phase, Training of project personnel both onshore and offshore to ensure their understanding of interface procedures before commencement of project activities. Development of specific procedures when unplanned well operations required further flexibility.

BP CATS - Enhanced NGL Operation
Development and implementation of test procedures to operate the CATS terminal in enhanced NGL mode. Site engineer during the initial E-NGL trial period. Main responsibilities included close liaison with ops team, technical query interface and data recording/analysis.
Responsible for implementing a change in the operation of the heating medium system that released an additional 5MW of usable heat energy for the terminal.

BP Magnus - Revenue Improvement Exercise
Process Engineer for a Genesis initiated study into the re-optimisation of a North Sea platform. Responsible for remodelling the NGL plant (Turbo-expander) at off-design conditions. Performed assessment of the 4 stage compression train - compressors, scrubbers and inter coolers. Delivered conceptual report to client.

Detailed Design
Occidental of Oman - Northern Oman Gas Expansion Project
Process Engineer seconded to the NOGP engineering team in Muscat, Oman. The main objective of the NOGP was to monetise the stranded associated gas at the Safah, Wadi Latham and Al Barakah fields. A consequential benefit would be a drastic reduction in gas flaring at these sites.
As the process engineer in a multi discipline team I was responsible for the Glycol Dehydration and Refrigeration/Dew pointing packages. This involved equipment specification, vendor liaison, technical bid evaluation, package integration into the existing facilities and design & HAZOP reviews of the package. Due to the fast track nature of the project (project kick-off to first gas was 8 months) the project required close liaison with the package vendors.

Process Simulation / Plant Capacity Studies
AGIP - Hydrocarbon Allocation Review
Process Engineer responsible for allocation review of the Agip Balmoral facilities.

Mobil - SAGE Plant Capacity Study
Responsible for assessing available ullage within the gas processing train for the potential introduction of third party business. Duties included modification of plant simulation model, equipment capacity rating and introduction of excel link to HYSYS in order to model expander-compressor 'off-design' performance.
Performed a series of HYSYS simulations to model the SAGE/STE plant performance at increased gas throughputs.

AGIP - Kashagan Offshore Production Train Study
Process Engineer responsible for a sensitivity and optimisation review of a new production train to be installed in the Caspian Sea offshore Kazakhstan.

BP - Magnus EOR Pipeline
Hydraulic review of ullage within the EOR pipeline. The study concentrated on the introduction of 3rd party gas at a number of different sources within the system.

BP – Andrew topside capacity study for Cyrus tie-back
Review of topside capacity to aid in commercial decisions to tieback new subsea development.

Brown & Root Production Services
Shell Central ISC - Central North Sea Aug'00 – May'01
Conoco Partnering Project Oct'98 – Aug'00
Shell Anasuria FPSO – Operations Support
Responsible for screening ad-hoc offshore queries for seawater pipework (conifer) leakage, living quarters sewage system failure, plant instrumentation queries, swivel leakage.

Shell – Anasuria Sand breakthrough study
Responsible for Anasuria subsea & topside erosion study. Duties included: Liaison with external sand modelling consultants (AEA), identification and analysis of sand mitigation options for late field life, report generation including input to asset integrity program.

Conoco SNS – LOGGS Level control upgrade
Process Engineer responsible for the conceptual study and detailed design of a new level control scheme for several 3-phase separators. Responsible for investigation of all possible level measurement devices at conceptual stage. Complied FEED report making recommendations for the proposed level control scheme for each separator. Vendor liaison during conceptual stages to assess equipment suitability. Design work included preparation of PFD, P&IDs and Instrument datasheets, capacity review of separators, liquid outlet line sizing check.

Conoco SNS – Viking Safety case and well isolation procedures
Responsible for updating the Safety Case for two wellhead satellites. Reviewed change screen reports over four-year period. Took ownership of the documents and co-ordinated discipline input to relevant sections of "Installation Description". Interfaced with compliance body (DNV). Preparation of isolation procedures for wellhead satellites prior to and during simultaneous drilling operations. Start-up procedures for new side-tracked wells being brought on-line after work over period.

Conoco SNS – CMS Air-Cooler Operating envelopes
Process engineer responsible for CMS compression train air-cooler development study. Project work included: Heat Exchangers simulations on ACOL, Production of Interstage and Export Fin-Fan operating envelopes and validation of coolers for increased gas flowrates.

Conoco SNS – Viking BC2 Refurbishment
Front-end study into refurbishing of mothballed compression train BC2. Responsible for: HYSYS / HYSIM simulation of compression train, equipment list, Investigation into possibility of refurbishing LP vane pack scrubber for new flow profile (achieved). Performed compressor capacity study over 15 year flow profile using vendor-supplied compressor curves to identify future train bottlenecks.
