Career History

August 2000 to present: Subsurface Team Leader for the Amherstia gas field, the largest in Trinidad and the largest operated by BP. Facilitated the introduction of high gas rate completions with 7" tubing and horizontal gravel pack completions. Developed the concept of gassy oil wells to develop thin oil rim at economic rate. Project Managed the Parang satellite development and introduced extended reach drilling to BP's Trinidad operations. Developed and coached young engineers and geoscientists.

August 1998 to July 2000: Production Team Leader for the Schiehallion FPSO (Floating Production, Storage and Offloading Vessel). Ensured maximum production rates while meeting subsurface data requirements, commissioning, maintenance, environmental and integrity needs for both vessel and subsea installation.

March 1996 to July 1998: BP Operations Advisor (BP Representative) on the Petrojarl Foinaven. As BP representative offshore I ensured that the Norweigen operator (Golar Nor) commissioned and operated the vessel safely, without harming the environment, while maximising production.

April 1994 to March 1996: Senior Petroleum Engineer on the Foinaven field, the first field West of Shetland, responsible for well completion design and installation. Additional responsibilities included planning for future well management. These objectives were achieved by creating and then leading an Alliance of BP and contractor employees.

March 1993 to March 1994: Production Technologist in Aberdeen, responsible for Clyde, a difficult field with high temperatures, sour service conditions, corrosion, scale and asphaltenes. Designed completions, supervised trainee on gas lift design and troubleshooting, etc..

January 1989 to February 1993: Petroleum Engineer in Completion Technology, Sunbury; a multidisciplinary team providing technical support to BP's operating centres. Work included research on perforating and well performance predictions. Acting as an internal consultant I also completed formation damage and acidization studies on particular fields. Horizontal well studies included review of BPs experience in Alaska & North Sea. Training courses, posters etc. for advancing technology within BP were developed.

August 1987 to January 1989: Reservoir Engineer for West Sole gas field, Southern North Sea. While in this position I created and history matched a new simulation model of the West Sole field. This included a review of PVT properties, lift curves and formation properties. In addition I made recommendations on infill drilling, facilities debottlenecking and other means of enhancing productivity.

February 1985 to August 1987: Petroleum Engineer in Production Technology Group in Calgary, Canada. In this position I designed, evaluated and, when required, supervised acid jobs, fracturing treatments, cement squeezes and other completion and workover operations. I also sized electrical submersible and rod pumps and investigated artificial lift problems.

August 1984 to February 1985: Reservoir Engineer on Magnus oilfield, North Sea. Created cross sectional simulation models and developed pseudo relative permeability curves for a new full field model.

October 1982 to August 1984: Petroleum Engineer in Production Technology group working on North sea fields. Based on vertical multiphase flow calculations I provided "lift curves" to reservoir engineers and designed artificial lift installations (electrical submersible pumps and gas lift). In addition I provided conceptual completion schemes for new field developments.

October 1981 to October 1982: Trainee Petroleum Engineer, Southern North Sea gasfields. I supervised wireline work, monitored pressure and production data and provided general engineering support in an operations post.
