In charge of all control system detailed engineering implementation for the PCS (Potash Corporation of Sask.) Phase 1 Mill Expansion Project ($ 350 Million Expansion). Also in charge of all detailed electrical design interfaces as it pertained directly to the control system. Planned, designed and tested advanced networks. Worked closely with Senior Process and Electrical Engineers. Responsible for assigning tasks to lower level personnel as required and as dictated by upper management. Attended in-house and client meetings.

Prepared Engineering drawings and issued to draftsmen. Actually did Autocad drafting work when drafting manpower was not available so as to maintain the project's tight schedule.

Prepared plant wide Control System Package for IFT (Issued for Tender), IFC (Issued for Construction) and Re-issued for Construction stages.

In charge of all details of preparing the following engineering deliverables: Control System Network Drawings, Control Panel and Communication Panel Drawings, Electrical PLC I/O Drawings for 5 kV and 600 V Electrical Starters, DeviceNet and ControlNet schematics. Detailed Instrumentation design for the CNRL Wolf Lake 4 Project. This was a SAGD Oil Project. Acted as the Water Treatment Plant Lead Engineer in charge of all issues related to the detailed instrumentation for the new Wolf Lake 4 Water Treatment Plant. Coordinated on a daily basis with the Oil Treatment Plant Lead Engineer for all tie-ins between the water & oil treatment plants and to standardize all design aspects for these two areas.

Worked closely with Senior Process, Mechanical, Piping and Electrical Engineers. Work included mostly detailed Vendor Package input for the Water Treatment Plant, P&ID development for both Water & Oil Treatment, InTools Database work, modularization of equipment skids, instrument sizing/selection, preparation of RFQs, evaluation of Vendor Bids and mentoring less experienced personnel.

Worked as the Lead SIS (Safety Instrumented System) Engineer for Suncor Energy's Firebag SAGD Oil Project (Stage 2). Worked on both the EDS (Engineering Design Specification) Phase and the DBM (Design Base Memorandum) Phase for Stage 2 of the Project.

Detailed hardware design and hardware estimates for Triconex Safety System. Detailed hardware and software design of SIS communication block diagrams, SIS architecture diagrams and SIS interfaces to external devices. Designed interfaces to Emerson DeltaV DCS to PLCs and Triconex System.

(SMALL TO MEDIUM SIZED OIL PIPELINE & OIL TERMINAL PROJECTS)
Worked on a new Crude Oil Terminal facility for Rangeland Pipeline Partnership. This project includes various detail engineering design of Electrical equipment, Instruments and Control System programming for the new Edmonton based oil terminal. Also included tie-ins to the Esso Strathcona Refinery, Pembina Pipelines and the existing Sundre Oil Pump Station which transfers this oil to the United States.

(MULTI-BILLION DOLLAR OIL & REFINERY PROJECTS)
Worked on two major Alberta projects: The Petro-Canada Refinery Conversion Project (RCP 1.1) and the CNRL Horizon Oil Sands Project. Developed the P&ID Drawings in conjuction with the Process Engineering group, obtained vendor data and operations requirements for refinery equipment such as Cokers, fired heaters, flare stacks and lube oil skids..

On the CNRL Horizon Oil Sands Project, wrote the detailed control philosophy for one of the large plant areas: the Storm Water Pump House. Also wrote Control Narratives for the Heating and Cooling Plant.

City of Holton, KANSAS, USA (New Water Treatment Facility)
Designed the I/C System for a new potable water plant. Platform used was the Allen-Bradley SLC-5/04 with 3 PanelViews, DeviceNet and Flex I/O Communications. Also included radio telemetry communications to two remote sites.

City of Lee's Summit, MO & Kansas City, MO (New South Terminal Pump Station)
Wrote the Instrumentation & Control System Specification (144 pages). Included all instrument selection, sizing and placement. Included interface to two existing & operating systems Valmet Oasys SCADA, Transdyn SCADA and Aries Power Plant. Radio and telephone telemetry via modems.

BNSF Railway Company (New Telemetry Monitoring System)
Designed a Telemetry Monitoring System for the Argentine Yard in Kansas City, KS. The system is intended to monitor all railway yard critical operating parameters such as: Diesel Fuel Oil Transfer System, various tank levels (locomotive lube oils, compressor oil, etc.), lift stations, pump stations, waste water treatment plant, boilers, yard air compressors, yard flooding and equipment failures.

BNSF Railway Company (New Diesel Fuel Oil Storage Tanks)
Design of new instrumentation to measure Diesel Fuel Oil level and volume and also entrained water level and volume for two 2.2 MG storage tanks. System also included high tank alarms and hi-hi tank level ESD (Emergency Shutdown).

City of Lee's Summit, Missouri (Scherer Road Elevated Water Storage Tank, 3.0 MG)
Designed the control system architecture for a new elevated water storage tank. The system used was the Allen-Bradley SLC-500 Platform with leased telephone line modem communication to an existing SCADA Host.

UNION CARBIDE CORP - LP7 POLYETHELENE PLANT - $650 Million)
One of the crucial tasks was to come up with an accurate I/O count for the three control systems (ESD, PLC, DCS). This was accomplished by reviewing the existing P&ID's and the Boolean Control Logic Diagrams. The I/O counts were entered manually in the project database. This database was then used as a basis for all preliminary design work such as the initial layout of the Marshalling Panels and issuance to other internal departments such as electrical engineering. The ESD System for this plant is a Fault Tolerant Triple Redundant System. Systems evaluated were Triconex, Honeywell's FSC & Moore ESD.

NOVA CHEMICALS OSBL PROJECT ($2.5 Billion Expansion)
Prepared detailed front-end studies and estimates for various applications. These studies included both technical and cost comparisons. One of these highly specialized applications was the high pressure steam flow for the NOVA Chemicals site. The steam flow lines studied were the main headers for the future Cogeneration facility. These were large 18" and 20" headers with bi-directional flow capability, flow computers and also custody transfer metering requirements. This was a unique, difficult and challenging application. Reviewed the acceptable industry standards for the various methods of metering steam flow.

In addition to the steam flow application mentioned above, also investigated the measurement of nitrogen gas, water and caustic liquids. Summarized the currently acceptable industry standards and researched any new technologies.

NOVA CHEMICALS OSBL PROJECT (Continued)
Developed the Instrument Index for the 3 future Electrical Substations. This required knowledge of high voltage switchgear, transformers and substation intertrips and lock-outs. Prepared a detailed front-end study for interfacing PLC's to the plants' existing Honeywell DCS System. Reviewed 2 major PLC vendors (Allen-Bradley and Modicon) for both technical merit and costs.

UPSTREAM PROJECTS ALLIANCE with ESSO (IMPERIAL OIL RESOURCES) (PROJECTS RANGING FROM $100,000 - $2 Million)
Senior Controls Specialist in charge of designing controls and instrumentation systems for the Bonnie Glen Crude Oil Pipeline system within Alberta. Designed and tested Modicon PLC hardware and Ladder Logic Programs for a vapour incinerator at the Rimbey Pump Station. This involved knowledge of combustion and burner management controls, pumping station field operations, crude oil piping and valving. The vapour incinerator system was interfaced to the existing and operational Rimbey Pump Station. The design also included an ESD shutdown system which was relay based.

COGEMA RESOURCES INC.
McClean Lake Uranium Mill, Northern Sask. ($400 Million)
The McClean Lake Uranium Mill in Northern Saskatchewan consisted of the following major plants:
Ore Receiving and Grinding, Atmospheric Leaching Plant, Counter Current Decantation Plant, Clarification Plant, Solvent Extraction Plant, Acid Plant, Calciner Plant, Strip Purification Plant, Ammonium Sulfate Plant, Utilities Plant, Chemical Reagents Plant, Product Discharge/Packaging/Shipping Plant. In addition this mill contained plant-wide Dust Collection Systems and HVAC Equipment, some of which were stand-alone while others were PLC/DCS controlled.

Chief Commissioning Engineer responsible for: coordinating, directing and supervising mill-wide activities related to electrical, mechanical, instrumentation, controls and chemical processing equipment.

NYCO MINERALS, A DIVISION OF FORDING COAL - Pilares Project, Mexico ($120 Million)
Control System Design Engineer responsible for the instrumentation and control development for a mining application in Mexico. This included the implementation of mill wide control philosophies: start-up and shutdown sequences, recipe handling sequences and definition of motor control interlocks. The systems were Elsag Bailey field instruments, Elsag Bailey Infi90 DCS and Allen-Bradley PLC's.

This company specialized in injection molded plastic parts for mountain bikes, suppling parts to Brazil's largest bicycle manufacturer. Intermediate Applications Engineer responsible for the research and assessment of technical data needed for the design and development of new plastic products. This involved designing prototype injection molds using AutoCad for the injection molding machines.

BAILEY BRAZIL - SAMARCO MINERALS (Brazil)
Samarco Minerals is an iron ore pelletizing plant situated on the Atlantic Coast. As of 1993 Samarco had the world's largest iron ore furnace (it contains 72 oil burners). The original field instruments in place were by Foxboro, Honeywell and Moore. The original control system was pneumatic. The system was retrofitted to the Bailey Infi90 system. New electrical components were added during the retrofit (mainly new motor control centres and completely new field wiring for all motors and instruments). Start-Up Engineer responsible for: supervising the upgrade from pneumatic controls to Bailey Infi90 controls and modifying DCS logic.

How can I find resumes that contain specific exact phrase?
To search for an exact phrase, just put quotation marks around two or more words, for example "mining engineer". Use this feature to narrow your results or to find words that can be typed differently, for example AutoCAD "Auto CAD".
