Inspection Engineer – Category 2
On completion of sale from BP to INEOS group, continued in role of Lead Inspection Engineer in Solvenics area leading inspection resource in the execution of day to day inspection activities including generation and approval of Written Schemes of Examination, inspection of process plant and their subsequent reporting and repairs if necessary to the appropriate standards and procedures.
Part of the RBI study team for the plants in the area providing support at sessions discussing the inspections of the items under review and their past histories with a view to their future endorsements.

Inspection Engineer – Category 2
Continued in Olefins area after moving to staff position within BP Grangemouth complex carrying out inspections as stated previously. During this time I have progressed to being the single point of contact for Monomers South Area for all boiler, furnace and high temperature equipment in the area. Within this role I am responsible for the generation of Written Schemes of Examination for individual items of plant equipment under prior to inspection.
As part of this role, I also witness the hot floats of the furnace and boiler safety valves prior to commissioning.
All work is controlled via the MMS system MAXIMO.

Inspection Engineer – Category 2
Moved into Olefins area within BPC, working as Inspection Engineer, initially to Category 4 status but now progressed to Category 2 status, Incorporated Engineer, within guidelines set in UKAS accreditation, carrying out inspections of pressure and non pressure system items at routine maintenance intervals. This involved the planning and execution of the inspection functions when the items were due to be inspected. This was in accordance with the Written Scheme of Examination, where applicable. I was responsible for the initial inspection and endorsement of newly fabricated plant equipment for the new KGXX project. This also involved the review of all documentation prior to commissioning.

Inspection Engineer - Piping.
Moved on to piping inspection on the BP Chemicals site firstly at the North Tank Farm area followed by Rigidex 2, Ethanol 3 and the GTU plant carrying out inspection of process piping to assess condition and report on same. I also had to liaise with relevant business site Engineers in the reporting and repair of pipework, if necessary to relevant ANSI, BS codes and standards paying particular attention to the limits and controls of the Pressure System Regulations. During this period I worked in the safety valve bay witnessing valve tests prior to their re-instatement on plant.

BP Chemicals Assistant Inspection Engineer / Inspection Engineer
Promoted to the post of Assistant Inspector for the Olefins area working initially with the Lead Inspector for the area receiving training on various aspects of inspection work including appropriate standards and procedures which included HSE Pressure Systems Regulations, ANSI, ASME, British Standards and BP site recommended practices and how to carry out inspections of the various process items on Olefins area. After this initial training period I was assigned the G4 cracking area primarily working on the inspection of the cracking furnaces and their components. I was responsible for the inspection, reporting, repairing - if necessary - and endorsing the items. Progressed to inspecting all other process items such as exchangers, pressure and non-pressure vessels, fractionation columns and steam raising equipment in the Olefins area again after an initial training period with the Lead Inspector. I was also responsible for the planning of the inspections by producing Written Schemes Of Examination and liaising with Plant Engineering personnel. I had also to produce a monthly report on the various on going inspection activities in Olefins for both the Group and the Engineering Integrity Manager.

Initially started as an NDT trainee aiding the NDT technicians carrying out NDT tests on the BP Chemicals Grangemouth site.
Progressed to post of NDT technician after successful training period and gaining PCN qualifications. My duties were to conduct NDT techniques to BP Inspection and plant engineers instructions whilst applying appropriate acceptance standards and procedures on process equipment on site such as pressure and non pressure vessels, heat exchangers, towers, cracking furnaces and steam boilers / raising equipment both at routine and shutdown maintenance intervals. After working for 4 years in this post I was seconded onto CIS outside contract work environment. This included carrying out various NDT techniques to appropriate standards and procedures on contracts including shipping both at sea and at dry dock, construction / fabrication yards, nuclear power stations and at pipe coating yards prior to shipment of pipes to the north sea. In Aug. 1991 I was promoted to the post of NDT co-ordinator for the KG Ethylene construction at BP Grangemouth. My duties were to liaise with the Lead Inspector and Project Engineers to assess the NDT work scope and then co-ordinate the 3 NDT technicians and trainees to carry out the required testing. I would also help out the technicians when required.

BP CHEMICALS GRANGEMOUTH - YOUTH TRAINING SCHEME
Worked in different departments on site being trained on various aspects affecting these departments.
These departments were:
1) Plant Inspection Department: Duties included the control and update of inspection records system and aiding the inspectors with their day-to-day inspections.
2) Works Lab: Duties included helping Lab Technicians carry out analytical tests on the chemicals and products produced on site in the Labs area. These were Water bench; Phenol Lab; Poly Lab; Organics and Gas Chromatography Lab.
3) Research Stores: Duties included control of stock in stores by both issuing and re-ordering materials.
4) Main Stores Office: Duties included updating stores stock via the BP Network system, re-ordering materials and order progressing.
Off the Job Training was also carried out at the training centre. This included topics such as Health and Safety, Unions, Computers, photography skills.
HOBBIES / SPORTS
I enjoy most sports especially football and golf. I continue to play football on a regular basis. I try to play golf at least once a week and my aim is to reduce my handicap from 14 as soon as possible. I also like listening to music and going to concerts.
