Responsible for managing development of the Villano Field which was a $350MM oil development in the Ecuadorian rainforest. Duties included leadership of the Drilling, Facilities, Operations and petroleum departments as well as SHEP compliance. Project included 7 horizontal wells, a 40 KM 12" flowline out of the rainforest employing a unique mono-rail system to minimize right-of-way requirements and minimize environmental damage, a central processing facility designed to process 40 MBOPD and 80MBWPD, a 120 KM 16" pipeline over the Andes Mountains, and an oil storage facility and metering tie-in to the trans-Ecuadorian pipeline. Project was completed on time and budget.

Responsible for support for a new gas field with deliverability of 450MMCFPD. Oversaw design and installation of + 100,000 HP of compression and installation of a refrigeration/LPG project). Oversaw design and installation of 5 subsea wells.

Responsible for supervision of 7 Production Engineers and 1 Engineering Technician overseeing production engineering efforts for 38 offshore production platforms producing 66 MBOPD and 210 MMCFPD from 152 gas lifted wells. Initiated QC/QA program for procedures including well completions, workovers, opening and closing zones for reservoir management, artificial lift, and stimulation activities. Duties also included providing technical training for National Engineers. Group supported development of 13 new production platforms, 12 infill wells, and 10 workovers over 3 years, which accounted for approximately 30MBOPD of new production. Worked with team to initiate several firsts for ARCO Indonesia including through tubing re-completions utilizing coiled tubing conveyed cement plugs, and the first significant fracturing efforts in the field which resulted in 3 to 5 fold production increases.

Operations Engineering Coordinator
Responsibilities included supervision of 2 onsite Operations Engineers and an Engineering Technician. (Position was a 7 on / 7 off schedule) Performed and directed on-site technical assistance to open and cased hole logging, fracture QC/QA and implementation, CTU activity and gas lift optimization in the field. Responsible for coordination and communication with on-site Drilling and Operations personnel and engineers in Anchorage to assure effective communication and technology transfer.

Provided surveillance, reservoir management and gas lift optimization for 5 water-alternating-gas (WAG) production and injection drillsites in the Kuparuk field producing 70MBOPD. Special duties included participation on a 4 person gas lift committee, and a multi-group facilities limits task force which provided guidance to field optimization increasing rate from a design limit of 280MBOPD to 315 MBOPD. Spearheaded efforts to employ automatic Echometers to perform pressure buildup tests without the use of wireline conveyed tools. Ran and compiled multiple tests with wireline conveyed pressure recorders while employing automatic sounder to verify range of accuracy. Results were savings of $35M/year by employing well sounders for pressure buildup tests for reservoir management data.

Prepared procedures and provided on-site supervision for field activities including wireline operations, drilling rig workovers, acid & fracture stimulations, snubbing and CTU operations. Area included a variety of operations including + 40 MMCFPD of high pressure gas production, a mature gas lifted oil field producing 500 BOPD and new development wells. Interacted with State regulatory groups related to gas nominations, allocation, and off-take regulations. Also responsible for facility support of compression, dehydration, and metering, facilities and a 5MMCFPD amine plant.

Prepared procedures and provided on-site supervision for field activities including wireline operations, drilling rig workovers, acid & fracture stimulations, snubbing and CTU operations. Area included the prolific Tabasco Field in the South Texas valley which was under primary development during this time. Received a technical achievement award for analysis of the use of acoustic well sounders in HP wells to determine the gas gradient, fluid level, and associated reservoir pressure from results.

Performed reservoir and geologic description of prospects, economic justification, land-lease terms and well package preparation for Management and co-owner approval. Interacted with State and other regulatory groups and testified as an expert witness on issues related to forced pooling and spacing. Subsequent responsibilities in Tulsa included engineering support for the 150 well Walnut Bend water-flood unit. Assigned to assist with ARCO's college interview and recruiting. Assisted with this program yearly until transferred to Indonesia in 1990. Also began involvement in teaching NODAL analysis in ARCO's Production, Operations, Engineering/Technology (POET) school in Dallas. This was a semi annual program designed to give engineers technical tools proven successful in the area of the Country they supported.
