Performed subsea architecture design and flow assurance for 45,000 BPD waxy crude in 1000 m off the coast of Equatorial Guinea involving innovative solution of gas lift and diluent injection to manage hydrates and high pour point to recover the lines in an unplanned shutdown.

Petrolera Ameriven, Caracas, Venezuela 1998-1999
Joint venture of PDVSA, Phillips, and Texaco to produce 190,000 BPD of bitumen.
LEAD PROCESS ENGINEER – Project Management Team. Team developed basic engineering scope of work, design basis, and plan of development for upstream production facilities. Supervised 10-person contractor process team and provided process and mechanical support for $5MM basic engineering design. Directed development of PFD, P&ID, H&MB, utility loads, hazards review and bid packages. Class II basic engineering cost estimate lowered lifecycle costs by $200 MM over previous estimate, resulting in project approval. Pivotal project engineering changes included:
* Implemented 7 multiphase pump stations replacing 3 flow stations, saving $96 MM.
* Reduced well pad cost to $1.8 from $2.4 MM, plus reduced the number of well pads by 30, for a total savings of $18 MM.
* Reduced field and downstream storage, saving $35 MM.
* Incorporated a PDVSA upstream processing facility in lieu of new construction, saving $30 MM.
* Utilized two existing pipelines in lieu of constructing new pipelines, saving $30 MM.

Phillips Petroleum International Co. Asia, Shekou, Peoples Republic of China. 1997-1998
Producer of 90,000 BPD of waxy crude from Xijiang field in South China Sea.
Selected to evaluate and resolve critical oil-in-water discharge problem on two offshore platforms that threatened shut-in after 60 days of unsuccessful efforts by vendor. Directed team of 4 engineers in producing recommendation that operations accepted, which eliminated the problem.
* Installed variable frequency drives (VFD) on electrical submersible pumps (ESP), a $20 MM savings over the test contractor recommendation.
* Eliminated fines (over $300,000/year) and the threat of shut-in.
* Eliminated process equipment, saving $200,000/year.
* Reduced electricity usage and minimized generator downtime, saving $1.5 MM/year.
* Projected increase in ESP life by 50%, reducing work-over costs, saving $5 MM/year.

GPM Gas Corporation, Borger, Texas 1993-1996
A subsidiary of Phillips Petroleum that gathers, processes and markets natural gas and natural gas liquids (NGL).
PROJECT ENGINEER Guided $11 MM conversion project to qualify a 250-mile, four NGL pipeline systems, for DOT service. Supervised contractor crews of 12.
* Prepared conversion of service plans for each system which enabled continuous system operation and qualification testing during regular plant turnarounds. Averted lost production of up to 40,000 barrels per day for up to 8 weeks, and $40 MM in lost revenues.
* Performed construction, maintenance and operation records search, determining required testing and identifying non-convertible lines. Reduced line conversion cost by $7 MM, and lines from 250 to 150 miles, by commingling some systems and shutting in others.
* Completed the conversion of service plans and secured approval from the TRRC without qualification or modification.

Corporate Engineering, Bartlesville, OK 1988-1993
Staff engineering group charged with the management of capital projects, business development and operations support
SENIOR PIPELINE ENGINEER Provided general engineering support to capital project managers, business development groups and operating units relating to new or existing upstream production and refined product delivery pipe line systems.
* Led design for the re-route of NGL pipeline at new Denver airport and gas line at Texas coal mine.
* Served as Advisory Board Member to Tulsa University Fluid Flow Projects, a multiphase technology joint industry project.
* Conducted surveys of operating units which justified acquisition of commercial simulators OLGA and DREM, two offline dynamic hydraulic-control models used to simulate single or multiphase pipelines.
* Participated on task force charged with determining specifications of an online hydraulic controls model for major North Sea gas pipeline.
* Performed transient simulation for upset and multiphase studies, steady-state simulation for capacity changes to existing systems or new business development.

* Led project for the development of production simulator, based on state-of-art study. The simulator remains in use today, running 1000 cases per month.
