COMMISSIONING EXPERIENCES
1.GANESH ANHYDRIDE LIMITED, TARAPORE.
Involved in pre-commissioning and commissioning activities like reactor catalyst filling and salt solution preparation. The heat evolved from the reactor is dissipated through salt cooler and super heater. The superheated steam is used for the turbine operation. I involved in the commissioning activities like tanks calibration, tank flushing, cleaning and purging with inert gases etc.
Water treatment and effluent treatment plant::
Raw water receiving tank, effluent raw water pumps, cooling tower, chlorinating system, oil separator, chemical dosing, oil removal from water, cooling water pumps, injection water filtration system with primary &secondary filters, fine filters, chlorinating, scale inhibitor, oxy scavenger dosing systems, Integrally geared centrifugal LP compressors, HP reciprocating compressors. Emergency diesel operated HP reciprocating compressors, Air injection manifold with control Valves.
2. CONSOLIDATED FIBRES AND CHEMICALS LIMITED, HALDIA.
Involved in pre-commissioning and commissioning of POLYMERISATION PLANT OF ACRYLONITRILE TO PRODUCE ACRYLIC FIBRE BY JAPAN EXLAN TECHNOLOGY IN FIRIST TIME IN INDIA. The plant is designed to produce 12,000 MT/year of fiblre. The plant has the following sections.
This process is an aqueous suspension addition polymerization. The reaction is an exothermic red ox reaction. In Polymerization of Acrylonitrile the conversion achieved is only 85% and hence the 15% remained monomer is recovered by the distillation column, The polymer produced is not directly spinnable due to its high polarity and hence the polymer is dissolved in a solvent called sodium thio cyanate and thus the polymer is spun up to fibers by coagulation method. During coagulation the solvent is recovered at low concentration and it is concentrated by the multiple stage evaporation. Nitrogen padding facilities for all tanks, loading and unloading of raw materials are established, Centum-XL-DCS/CS-3000 panel is utilized to control the whole process.
3 ALEXANDRIA FIBER COMPANY, ALEXANDRIA, EGYPT.
I joined with this organization since its grass root stage. I involved in the site layout finalization, equipment specification, floating of enquiry and preparation of TBA, Final negotiation with vendor, Ordering of equipment, Vendor drawing approval, Follow up with Vendor manufacturing schedule, Inspection and timely shipment.
I held responsible for the erection of the equipments, piping checking as per the P & ID as well as isometrics. Coordination with Civil, Mechanical, Electrical & Instrumentation departments for the Erection of equipments and Flushing, Hydro test and Calibration of vessels and instruments.
I have undergone the training in JAPAN EXLAN CO. JAPAN and THAI ACRYLIC FIBER.
I had been an active participant in the successful commissioning of the plant. The plant is equipped with Foundation field bus systems, PLC and Centum CS 3000 systems.
WATER TREATMENT PLANT:
Raw water is filtered, Demineralised using RO and mixed bed units for high-pressure boiler feed water. Steam and power is supplied by ACBC and Raw water and DM water is supplied in return.
EFFLUENT TREATMENT PLANT:
Effluents from polymerization section and solvent recovery sections contain free cyanide and sodium thio cyanate, which are broken into nitrogen and carbon dioxide by chlorination and dechlorination systems. The BOD is controlled by the conventional aeration system and finally discharged through the blending tank.

a)Development of indigenous polymerization reactor:
The reactor for production of polyacrylonitrile was supplied by M/s Kawasaki Heavy Industries Ltd. in 1991. A new reactor has been fabricated indigenously after vigorous study on its design and material of construction (99.97% pure Aluminium) with the help of Department of Metallurgy, IIT Kharagpur in 2001. It was a very successful venture. The direct monetary benefit was Rs.3 crors.
b)Increased productivity:
125% capacity utilization achieved by minor but effective augmentation of a few equipments and also by making some de-bottlenecking. This enhancement enabled to reduce utilities consumption ratios.
c)Steam, Electricity and Raw materials saving:
By installing an additional steam-jet-ejector in vacuum evaporator system, steam consumption could be reduced and saving thereby obtained Rs. 30 lacs per year.
By doing some modifications in Reactor jacket cooling water system and also by installing some speed variators in few heavy motors considerable saving could be achieved.
By doing several minor modifications in the process, raw materials consumptions could be optimized. At present it is the best among the industries of same kind.
d)ISO-9002 Certification:
Statistical techniques (7 tools) were implemented effectively.
e)Hazard identifications and Safety measure:
Performed thorough hazop study on the process, identified potential hazards and implemented effective safety measures.
f)Reduction of down time:
Implemented condition based maintenance by vibration monitoring, lubrication monitoring, thermal measurement, Fugai-visual inspection, Failure analysis and specific training. Breakdown failure remarkably brought down.
ACHIEVEMENT IN AFCO:
A) SUCCESSFUL COMMISSIONING OF GREENFIELD PROJECT:
AFCO is the first acrylic fiber plant in the Africa by the Japan Exlan technology and machineries supplied by Kawasaki Heavy Equipments. The total manpower training is conducted in house and capacity utilization is achieved 100% within 6 months of its commissioning. The consumption norms and ratios are achieved well within the guaranteed figures.
I am working since the project stage and hence I am well experienced in the planning through Primavera system. Effective communication with the vendor and engineering consultant for all the correction/modification and clarifications. The project is completed within 21 months of time, where the new vendors had to be developed and lot of training involved in house and outside agencies.
Break down maintenance is avoided by the effective preventive maintenance and continuous monitoring system.
Since July 2006 to April 2007, I was working as a Manager-Technical cell which is supervising the total material balance, Energy Audit and System implementation.
ACHIEVEMENT IN VEBA OIL OPERATIONS:
Veba oil operation is exploring oil in the Libyan desert. I am responsible for the production of Potable water for the plant as well as for the camp. Also responsible for the preventive maintenance, Day to Day operation and safety requirements.
