I was responsible for Process Engineering/Management of various Projects from conceptualization to design to construction and commissioning. I carried out revamp studies and making of proposals and cost estimation. Utilized simulation packages. I developed PFDs,P&IDs, datasheets etc. for many revamp projects.

Feasibility Study for Recovering LPG from Coker Unit Off-Gases
The assignment involved investigating the feasibility of recovering around 23 mol% LPG components from coker unit off-gases by revamping the off-gas handling unit. A proposal with detailed cost estimate was prepared
It was found that it is possible recover around 72500 tones per year of LPG with an estimated investment of $ 8 million (US) and a simple pay back period of 2.3 years.

Feasibility study for increasing the capacity of crude distillation unit (156 MBPSD)
The assignment involved investigating the feasibility of increasing the capacity of crude column without replacing any major equipment. Identified and proposed modifications like introducing additional pump around, additional heat exchangers etc. A proposal with detailed cost estimate was prepared

It was found that it is possible to increase the capacity by 10% at an investment of $17 million (US) and a pay back period of 3 years.

Design & Construction of New Furnace (400 MMBTU/Hr)
The project involved developing design basis for construction of a new furnace. Tasks included developing process specifications for tender preparation. Offers received from vendors were evaluated and vendor documents were verified. A detailed HAZOP study was carried out. Verification of detailed design of the Vendor.
Provided detailed critical technical analysis to show that the specification for a burner management system is not required. Accomplished cost-savings of around $600,000(US) and associated shortening of implementation time and effort.

New Merox unit (20,000 BPSD)
The assignment involved preparation of design basis for Merox unit by M/s UOP, review of PDP, PFDs, P&IDs and other process documents of UOP, design of off site facilities and interface with ISBL faciliites. Reviewed FEED documents.
A critical review of facilities proposed for the unit indicated that flare knock out drum and product pumps are not required resulting in cost savings for the company.

Crude Units Revamp Project (180 to 190 MBPD & 75 to 80 MBPD)
The assignment involved increasing capacity of two crude units by 5%. Tasks carried out were preparation of P&IDs, instrument, control valve and relief valve data-sheets. Preparation of process data sheets for heat exchangers, Hydraulics calculations using PROII(SIMSCI), vendor interaction and liaison, and verification of vendor documents.
Provided critical technical analysis and indicated to the client that a requirement for revamping H-Oil cooling circuit was not necessary. Benefits obtained were cost-savings of around $900,000(US) and associated reduction in implementation time and effort.

Revamp of Catalytic Reformer Unit (15,800 BPD and 100 RON)
The objective of the project is to improve the octane number using dualforming technology of IFP. The assignment involved providing process support to execution of the project and review of PDP, FEED, PFDs, P&IDs and other process documents.

Revamp of SRU (400 MTD) and Hydrogen units (72 MMSCFD)
The assignment involved review of PFDs, P&IDs, data sheets and other detailed design documents. Revised steam/carbon ratio control in Hydrogen unit. Revised combustion control in SRU.

* Identification of bottlenecks in feed circuit for increasing the capacity to design level.
* Finding solution to failure of thermosyphon action in stabiliser reboiler.
* Suggesting suitable modifications to avoid slopping of ATF/Diesel during start up
* Location of ideal tray for stabilizer weathering control
Provided step by step critical analysis to above problems and identified the root cause for the problems and implemented the necessary modifications which increased the capacity of the unit by 5%, avoided daily failures of stabilizer reboiler, avoided slopping of ATF/Diesel during start up and facilitated the design of weathering controls for LPG preventing quality giveaway and consequent production loss. CHEMSAHR was used for simulating Atmospheric column and stabiliser.
VACUUM DISTILLATION UNIT
Modifications/Re-Engineering works
The assignment involved
* Inspection of reasons for failure of improper separation of oil and water in hot well.
* Finding a solution to high overlap between diesel and LVGO
Analysed the causes for improper separation of oil and water and re-engineered the hot well which improved oil and water separation. Analysed the reasons for high overlap between diesel and LVGO by simulation and plant trails. Identified the reasons and implemented the necessary corrections improving the quality of feed to hydrocracker unit.

CATALYTIC REFORMING UNIT AND AROMATIC EXTRACTION UNIT
Re-engineering works

The major accomplishments were
* Finding a solution to high moisture content in stripper bottom
