Mining monitoring
* Ensures effective clean-up through monitoring and advising on drilling progress
* Monitors and advises on drill over or under penetration by geological observation of screens, footwall identification and interpretation of geological data.
* Ensures plant recovery efficiency by monitoring carry-over, screen blinding, waste management, and any other problems that could affect efficiency.
* Advises mining tool operators of geological hazards and other adverse conditions that would affect mining efficiency through (i) screen monitoring, (ii) communication of geological fact pack data, and (iii) geophysical interpretation (of sidescan sonar, seismic profiles and swath bathymetry).
* Identifies and advises on possible drill bit blockages by interpreting screen gravel volumes in conjunction with all the geological data
Geological Consulting
* Sources, reads and understands the geological project reports written by the Resource Geologists, prior to mining
* Establish a basic understanding of the plant layout and gravel flow, and the functions of any new metallurgical equipment (such as the IPJ).
* Possess an up-to-date knowledge of pops, carat factor, predicted carats recovered and RVCR, actual carats recovered and RvCR.
* Possess a complete understanding of the daily PPF report, and the vessel target goals (especially rate).
* Conduct ongoing comparisons of the geological trends with respect to daily pops, carats, RvCRs, and rate.
* Spatially map, in Arcview 9.2, the current mining parameters and results with the adjacent historical mining parameters and results.
* Identify and interpret all trends evident in the data wrt vessel deployment, tool deployment, plant configuration, environmental delays, rate attained, RvCR attained, grade recovered, etc.
* Identify and observe all aspects of the operation that impact on, or are impacted upon, by the geology. Such aspects include; drill bit interaction on the seabed, drill bit parameter changes such as drill bit size, the suitability of new plant technology to different geological terrains, monitoring and interpreting ROV dive footage, etc.
* Interpret these observations, in conjunction with the geological data, and translate this knowledge into recommendations on efficiency improvement.
* These recommendations fall within three spheres (i) how to improve recoveries, rate, yield and panel selection (VM) (ii) evaluating the extraction and processing efficiency by comparing the post -mined results with the estimates (Eval) (iii) assessing the accuracy of the original geological / estimation model (Prod. Geol).
* Convey these recommendations to the relevant customers (i) Vessel Management, by informal communication with the Driller and MPS, as well as involvement in the production meetings by means of geological presentations (ii) Evaluation, by the daily phone-in as well as informal telephonic and email communication (iii) Production Geology, by the daily phone-in, daily geo report, as well as informal telephonic and email communication.
* Assists Geologist in compilation and interpretation of geological data as needed.
* Takes photographs / rock samples aboard vessel.
* Describes, identifies and interprets rock samples.
* Compiles maps as required

* Assist MPS in compiling graphs wrt recoveries, RvCRs, etc.
* Assist Production Metallurgist in doing simulant tests and recording the results.
