SUMMARY OF PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

Twenty nine years experience within oil Refining and petrochemical industry which includes extensive experience in instrumentation, control and analyser services.

I manage the Refinery analyser maintenance team and I am responsible for the installation and specification of all refinery analyser projects, measurement systems, sample conditioning systems, recovery systems etc, including budget management and control.
The refinery analyser team consists of analyser technicians and maintenance supervisors that I provide guidance for in order to ensure high reliability and availability of online analysers.
I am conversant with current engineering standards and codes of practice and current IPPC legislation.

JOB DESCRIPTION
Current position: REFINERY ANALYSER ENGINEER

OVERVIEW OF POSITION: As the Refinery Analyser Engineer I work within the I&E branch of the Refinery Availability Team. I provide day to day Engineering and technical support to various Business Units within Refinery.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES: As the Refinery Analyser Engineer I provide support for field/online process analyser technology, covering all aspects from conceptual design, through detailed engineering, day-to-day maintenance activities, long-term performance monitoring, field troubleshooting, and analyser engineer/maintenance technician training.

I am responsible for the refinery, off sites and power station analysers, and associated sample systems, evaluating and implementing modifications to all On-Line Analyser systems as required.

I conduct field surveys and recommend remedies to solve pressure, flow, and contamination problems.

As the Refinery Analyser Engineer I assist in developing an optimized on-line analyser preventive maintenance program and assist in the review of analyser materials and spare parts.

Other responsibilities include reviews and implementation of an effective analyser technician training program, knowledgeable in establishing communications between analysers and Distributed Control Systems, have strong oral and written communications abilities and a good working knowledge of PC interface applications.

1998 to Date INEOS REFINERY GRANGEMOUTH (FORMERLY BP OIL REFINERY GRANGEMOUTH)

Analyser Engineer providing specialist analyser engineering support within the refinery, involving project development and management of all refinery analyser systems, maintenance, corrective engineering, project liaison in design, construction and implementation, and as technical authority. Duties included managing an analyser supervisor and a team of five technicians. Responsible for managing the maintenance, installation and specification for all refinery online analyser systems, sample conditioning systems, recovery systems etc, including analyser categories such as online chromatography, physical property, CEMs, FTNIR Bomen and water treatment etc.

Also involved in regular liaison with a wide range of contacts, both internal and external, including personnel in manufacturing, procurement, maintenance, inspection and overhauls, and also with management and engineering departments of key 3rd party supplier alliances. Business units include online analyser budget setting for maintenance - routine and exceptional costs and Capex for large scale jobs. Projects cover development and execution of small and large scale projects, from design through to FAT to installation.

Primary accountabilities include:-

* Providing technical support, ensuring optimum equipment performance for on-line analyser service operations throughout the complex.
* Providing technical support to analyser services engineering development, promoting increased reliability across the complex and delivering added value to the business.
* Supporting project teams, including 3rd party vendors offering turnkey process solutions in the development and implementation of on-line analyser installation and associated equipment design.
* Delivering an effective on-line analyser engineering support to the business by reducing unnecessary routine maintenance and calibration failures, thus improving reliability and availability.
* Reviewing analyser use and performance with manufacturing team members, identifying critical and necessary analysis and optimising business resources and needs accordingly.
* Implementing maintenance and corrective engineering strategies to maximise benefits from present and future on-line analysers.
* Ensuring control of analyser budgets within pre-determined limits.
* Providing training for analyser services personnel and, as found necessary, other personnel in all appropriate aspects of analyser engineering, its applications and related activities.
* Maintaining adherence to formal analyser procedure systems, ensuring updating of analyser procedures in line with legislation and recommended changes.
* Maintaining current awareness of engineering standards, internal and external, relating to instrument, electrical and on-line analyser installation and operation.
* Ensuring compliance with all COSHH, risk assessments and other safety related procedures relevant to analyser installations.

Shared accountabilities include:-

* As part of analyser services reliability and development team, ensuring implementation and delivery of agreed maintenance strategies across the Grangemouth complex.
* Contributing to the development and implementation of complex wide KPIs for on-line analyser maintenance and development.
* Maintaining awareness of engineering developments in instrument, electrical and on-line analyser technology through regular contact with equipment manufacturers.
* Maintaining active involvement in the on-line analyser forum to share ideas, experiences and capture best practice strategies and initiatives.
* Closely adhering to engineering codes of practice and procedures with responsibility for engineering, specifying, procuring and installing various analyser projects and systems throughout the refinery and gas plants.

1995/1998 BP OIL REFINERY GRANGEMOUTH

Analyser Services Engineer responsibilities included:-

* Motivating team to deliver to higher performance targets.
* Encouraging ownership of analyser systems.
* Acting as chairman of BP Oil Refinery Grangemouth AQT (Analyser Quality Team)
* Preparing, implementing and commissioning analyser projects, PMP and FATs.
* Organising and implementing technician training.
* Developing overhaul work packs for all process areas.
* Planning and co-ordinating all maintenance activities (utilising Teroman Maximo PI systems etc.)
* Managing and controlling budgets for each business area.
* Managing various vendor maintenance and supply contracts.

1990/1995 BP OIL REFINERY GRANGEMOUTH

DCS Maintenance Engineer principal responsibilities included:-

* Maintaining the integrity of the Refinery Honeywell TDC3000 DCS
* Technical authority for DCS maintenance and installations.
* Developing routine and overhaul maintenance programmes
* (Teroman sys) for all LCN, UCN, Hiway and peripheral equipment.
* Implementing training programmes for technicians.
* Managing resident engineer resource.
* Controlling spares holding facility.

Additional duties included:-
* Fire and gas systems, including maintenance activities.
* Managing and controlling various vendor maintenance and supply contracts.
* All HVAC systems associated with central control and DCS equipment buildings.
* Managing all asset CCTV systems and associated maintenance agreement.

1987/1990 BP OIL REFINERY GRANGEMOUTH

Instrument & DCS Maintenance Technician responsible as member of specialist team responsible for DCS maintenance, installations, configuration and on/off-line diagnostic activities. Temporary duties included acting as process 3 instrument and control supervisor, responsible for routine maintenance, shutdown system testing, PLC systems, valve overhaul/testing, pneumatic and electronic instrument calibration and repairs.
Also worked as a team leader for major overhauls.

1985/1987 BP OIL REFINERY GRANGEMOUTH

Instrument Technician engaged on Central Refinery Process Units and responsible for:-

* Routine testing, calibration and repair of various types of electronic/pneumatic instruments.
* Routine testing/calibration of vibration monitoring equipment.
* Fire and gas systems maintenance/testing.
* Participating in various plant overhaul programmes.

1983/1985 BP OIL REFINERY GRANGEMOUTH

Instrument Technician engaged on refinery power station, water treatment and re-gasser areas. Duties included:-

* Routine testing, calibration and repair of various electronic/pneumatic instruments (including Hartmann and Braun, TCS etc.)
* Maintenance of Sarasota and Schlumberger gas flow and fiscal metering systems.
* Installation and commissioning of new equipment.

1979/1983 BP OIL REFINERY GRANGEMOUTH

Apprentice serving four-year instrument apprenticeship, working on various types of instrumentation and control systems, installations and commissioning projects. Duties included routine and preventative maintenance of plant and systems associated within a large refinery.
