May 2006 – Present:[Company owner, Alicante, Spain, electrician ]

Moved to Spain and set up my own electrical business, employing two electricians and a labourer.
Besides managing the company and supervising the staff, I remain hands-on in the day-to-day electrical work.
Company offers a wide range of work including new installations for commercial and domestic properties from concept to completion.
Provide the routine electrical maintenance on commercial and domestic properties.
Provide, install and maintain air conditioning units for commercial and domestic properties.
Sub-contract for a telecommunications firm, installing wireless connections for phones and broadband.
Hold regular team meetings to discuss projects and resolve issues.
Company ownership has honed my managerial skills and largely enhanced my expertise in project planning and budgetary control.
My communication skills have developed greatly due to my current role. I am competent in dealing with all types of clients, ranging from domestic householders to company directors.

January 2001 – March 2006: Pilkington’s Tiles, Manchester, UK. Lead Technician

Role was to ensure interruptions to production were kept to a minimum and targets were subsequently met.
I Initiated and set up a Planned and Preventative Maintenance Programme.
All technicians were expected to write up the PM’s and a schedule was set up for all machinery.
A multi skilled regime was encouraged which I believe to be invaluable in a maintenance department.
Shortly after joining Pilkington’s a new fully automated department was installed, this was controlled by PLC’s. Due to my expertise, I was chosen to work with the manufacturers in the installation and commissioning of this department.
Following installation, I was responsible for training all other technicians on the new line; Operation, PM’s, Diagnostics and Fault finding.
Routine maintenance, inspection and testing of substations(35KV and 66kv)
With management approval, I initiated and facilitated ad hoc team meetings to discuss and resolve problems. Minutes were taken, action points allocated as appropriate, thus ensuring all matters were seen through to conclusion.
My contracted working pattern was 12 hr shift work days and nights, with regular call-outs for breakdowns.

September 1996 –December 2000: Manchester Tobacco Company Ltd (part of the Japan Tobacco Group) Apprentice, Multi Skilled Technician.

Recruited as an electrical apprentice, this was the first time an apprentice was appointed for the company outside of Japan.
My apprenticeship followed the standard course for apprentices in the UK. The first year was full time teaching at North Trafford College; the subsequent years were day release and evening sessions. I achieved BTEC, ONC and HNC in Electrical Engineering.
This was a new factory and the completion of my first college year coincided with the start of production.
As the only electrical apprentice, my duties were varied and multi skilling was actively encouraged. Due to the fact that it was a green field site, machinery and plant were constantly being installed.
I spent a great deal of time working with the machinery manufacturers’ engineers on commissioning and developing the machines and process controls. As a result, I am fully proficient in PLC systems, Siemens S5 & S7, and Omron Siswin.
All work orders were generated through a CMMS, “Shire” including PPM’s breakdowns etc.
My working pattern was shift work – double day shift 6.00-14.00 and 14.00-22.00
The company ceased production and closed down in December 2000.
