ANVIL MINING SERVICES – DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF THE CONGO: January 2008 until present.

Exploration Security Manager

My current function is to provide specialist security services to the Exploration Department of Anvil Mining Services in the Congo. The Exploration Department operates in remote areas and need specific and dedicated security protocols.
Duties included:

* Pre-deployment to new exploration sites to develop a security and risk assessment before allowing drilling teams and geologists into the area.
* Assessments include but are not confined to, security situation, communications, terrain analysis, logistics and other potential hostile elements.
* Responsible for the development of Escape and Evasion procedures and plans.
* Responsible for the Explorations HEAT (Hostile Environment Awareness Training) program.
* Responsible for all investigations and intelligence statistics gathered from the operational reports. This includes the running of an intelligence database.
* Responsible for administrative functions
* Responsible for budgets, finance.
* Liaison between local authorities and client/company. This includes private security initiatives, Congolese intelligence services, national police and Armed Forces.
* Liaison with NGO's and the United Nations forces in areas of Exploration.
* Monthly briefs to local security elements on trends and tendencies as reported and recorded on our operational database.
* Responsible for all health and safety requirements and enforcement of such procedures on the contracting companies and Anvil Mining sub contractors.
* Development of risk assessments, security protocols, policies and procedures.
* Responsible for the design and implementation of an Exploration specific policy on the VPSHR (Voluntary Principles on Human Rights and Security).

OMEGA RISK SOLUTIONS - MADAGASCAR: April 2007 until December 2007

Project Manager

The current project is for the security of the QMM mining project in Fort Dauphin. At present the project will cover the physical security at the mine, providing a emergency response element and routier control. Guard force is set at 300 personnel including expatriate supervisory element.
Duties included:

* Responsible for all recruiting, selection and formation of security officers.
* Responsible for discipline and all industrial relations
* Responsible for all investigations and intelligence statistics gathered from the operational reports. This includes the running of an intelligence database.
* Responsible for administrative functions
* Responsible for budgets, finance, payroll and legal requirements in country.
* Liaison between client and company
* Liaison between local authorities and client/company.
* Monthly briefs to local security elements on trends and tendencies as reported and recorded on our operational database.
* Responsible for all health and safety requirements and enforcement of such procedures on the contracting companies and Omega sub contractors.
* Responsible for the compliance to all HSE regulations, of Omega personnel, Omega policies and procedures on site and in accordance with the client's requirements specific to the project. This includes maintaining levels applicable to the head office's ISO standards.
* Development of risk assessments, HSE policies, procedures and STA's relating to all functions and interaction of guard force on the HSE regulations.

OMEGA RISK SOLUTIONS - GABON: 1 August 2005 until February 2007

Operations and Training Manager

The Gabon project is an integrated urban surveillance and management project, using state of the art camera and control room to monitor strategic key points in the Gabonese capital of Libreville. This includes foot and vehicle patrols in support of incident identification by the control room and crisis centre. This project runs in conjunction with the Gabonese security forces.
Duties included:

* Responsible for all operational requirements including equipment and personnel
* Responsible for all training, both the control operators and ground elements and ad hoc instruction.
* Responsible for discipline and all industrial relations
* Responsible for all internal investigations and intelligence statistics gathered from the operational reports. This includes the running of an intelligence database.
* Responsible for administrative functions
* Responsible for operational budgets and payroll.
* Liaison between client and company
* Liaison between local authorities and client/company.
* Monthly briefs to Gabonese security elements on trends and tendencies as reported and recorded on our operational database.
* Responsible for all health and safety requirements and enforcement of such procedures on Omega sub contractors.
* Responsible for the compliance to all HSE regulations, of Omega personnel, Omega policies and procedures on site and in accordance with the countries legislative requirements specific to the project. This includes maintaining levels applicable to the head office's ISO standards.

Contract Security Manager

Securicor Malawi is part of the international security group Group4Securicor.and is the largest single security provider in Malawi. The client is a civil engineering company from Portugal completing road construction projects. The total guarding compliment is 64 security personnel and 6 guard dogs. The project is split into two camps 160 kilometres apart.
Duties included:

* Responsible for all operational requirements including equipment and personnel
* Responsible for on site training and ad hoc instruction.
* Responsible for discipline and all industrial relations
* Responsible for all investigations and claims from client for losses
* Responsible for all administrative functions
* Liaison between client and company
* Liaison between local authorities and client/company.

SECURICOR SOUTH AFRICA: May 2003 – May 2004

Investigations Manager Free State and Northern Cape

Securicor is an international security and risk management company with offices through out the world. Securicor in South Africa is focused on the physical guarding of companies with add on services such as that of investigations. My position was the investigation of all internal enquiries and transgressions for Securicor FS / NC and their clients. The investigations were primarily to investigate disciplinary transgression and the criminal transgression if any had taken place. This was a partially unionised environment. The clients varied from retail stores, shopping malls to diamond and gold mines.
Duties included:

 Investigation of crimes and suspects both internally and externally.
 Preparation and presentation of investigation reports to clients and senior management.
 Preparation of case files and leading of evidence in disciplinary hearings and courts of law.
 Interviewing and profiling of suspects and staff.
 Handling of all serious transgressions of internal industrial relations with regard to disciplinary hearings.
 Building and maintaining a database of criminal activities and suspects.
 Liaising with law enforcement agencies and intelligence organisations.
 Training of covert operatives and their handling.
 Monitoring of HSE compliance where the company had specific HSE roles eg. Coca Cola and SAB Breweries.
 Security and risk surveys.

During my period of employment I successfully closed 23 investigation files in a 10 month period, with both criminal and disciplinary actions having been effectuated. During this time I also investigated a large fraud syndicate for one of Securicor's clients namely SABCO Coca Cola. It involved SABCO drivers, security personnel and clients. Furthermore to this was the investigation of diamond thefts from the client Transhex. Together with the help of undercover security personnel and polygraph tests the rate of theft dropped by more than 70%

SA MANAGEMENT: November 2002 to April 2003

Covert Intelligence Manager: Cape Town

SA Management is an investigations company specialising in commercial investigations, covert investigations and forensic investigations. In my capacity I rendered a service to various clients in the use of covert intelligence operatives in the prevention of corporate crime as well as the associated investigation of any crime or internal breech. Clients varied from national retailers to international manufacturing companies.
Duties:
* Briefing and debriefing of agents
* Training of agents
* Infiltration and extraction of agents
* Covert surveillance and investigations
* Crime report analysis and the setting up of the necessary contingency plans required to prevent any corporate risk
* Security and risk audits and surveys
* Preparation of reports/evidence in support of investigations
* Liaison with law enforcement agencies and intelligence organisations

Whilst with SA Management I placed 20 undercover agents in the field after having received training. The agents were spread in 4 different industries ranging from hotels to manufacturing. The agents had a 99% success rate on internal theft and transgressions with some having supplied information to the police services regarding public crime.

BLOEMFONTEIN/ CAPE TOWN: February 2000 – October 2002

Started my own security and associated services company called PETTERSON AND ASSOCIATES. My main areas of focus were the investigation of crimes within businesses and the disciplinary action thereafter.
During this time I worked with companies such as Vika International part of the ISC Group. Further to this I gave classes to the Spur Steak Ranch managers and franchise owners on the investigation of crime in the workplace and how to implement this during disciplinary hearings.
Furthermore my investigations took me to Lesotho for the surveying of the Lesotho Bank and Standard Banks.

Reason for leaving: Better and more stable position with good exposure with SA Management.

ENGEN 1-STOP FOOD COURT: January 1999 – January 2000
Food Court Operations Manager: Bloemfontein

The Engen Group is a petroleum company, currently the largest in South Africa. The 1- Stop Food Courts are the retail food outlets found at all petrol filling stations. My task was the management of Wimpy franchise as well as Milky Lane and Wimpy coffee shop together with Engen Quick Shop. This included the prior project facilitation and management during construction. This environment was controlled by both a union and bargaining council.
Duties included:
* Daily operations & management of Food Court
* Staffing & staff training
* Stock control
* Stock ordering
* Maintain profitability & loss prevention

* Disciplinary hearings and dispute resolution
* Health and Safety – Hygiene and Sanitisation

This position allowed me to obtain project management skills practically as the venture was started from scratch and I was responsible for my franchises from the beginning to the opening of the complex.

WOOLWORTHS: June 1997 – November 1998
Business Unit Operations Manager: Free State & Northern Cape

Woolworths is a large clothing and food retail chain with close ties to its former owners Marks and Spencer. Woolworths was in the past Marks and Spencer's' South African outlet. My portfolio in the position was to control the full operations in 5 stores in the Free State and Northern Cape. This position also demanded a working knowledge of Project Management. This was a Unionised environment.
Duties included:

During this period there were no armed robberies or common robberies at any of the stores and the stock loss percentage was kept at less than 1% for the region. Whilst with the region I assisted with the opening of a new store and the revamp of several older stores in the region.

FRENCH FOREIGN LEGION: 1992– 1996

After completing my service with the SADF I joined the French Foreign Legion. Completed my contract with the rank of corporal.

Operational deployment to the Balkans and North Africa.

I completed my national service in the Infantry Corps and attained the rank of second lieutenant.

My position was to train recruits in basic military training.

* Field Training – individual and platoon skills in the bush/field

* Security and Intelligence – the minimum requirements on security of information, training and access to information.
