Analogue geophysical survey, BP Shah Deniz, Caspian Sea, Azerbaijan.
MBES Surveyor with a Reson 8101 MBES and Ixsea Octans as well as Coda 360, tri-fish and Fusion USBL, surveying the Shah Deniz site. Project interrupted by the need to support intervention work after the Central Azeri platform.
Beach Pull, ENI Blacktip project, N.T. Australia
Surveyor for Van Oord using the catamaran jetboat Topcat, fitted with a Reson 8125 MBES and PDS2000 software, to support the excavator dredge 'Hippopotes' during the trenching of a beach pull access route and subsequent installation of a pair of 400m sleeve pipes.
Shell Sarawak. Deepwater tophole batch drilling to 1m tolerances, using Sonardyne Mk5 and Starfix Acoustics.
BP-Indonesia. ROV surveys of platforms using Sea-eye Tiger, Panther, Quasar ROV's. Survey results entered to Coabis software.
2007
Sakhalin Energy. Returned to Sakhalin project for final floatover and pipe armouring.

2006
Upstream Services/ Norsk Hydro. Party manager aboard ship performing deepwater coring for geochemical analysis in the Mozambique Channel. Nineteen sites successfully cored with a Kullenberg corer, in depths ranging from 388m-2484m, and currents up to 3.5kts. C-Nav, Sonardyne L/USBL, EchotracII, Edgetech X-star SBP.
Sakhalin Energy. Fallpipe scour protection installation at the PA-B gravity base structure, from the modified Jan de Nul vessel, SSDV Pompei. MBES surveys were then observed along the landfall trench and stockpile areas. C-Nav, Octans III fog/heave compensator, Simrad EM3002 MBES
Sakhalin Energy. Phase II. Landfall dredging of 19km trench for four 14" pipelines for the planned Piltun_B and existing Molikpaq platforms, Sakhalin Island, Russian Federation. Aboard JdN cutter dredge JfJ de Nul, with survey cat JD1. C-Nav, Octans III fog/heave compensator, Simrad EM3002 MBES and Deso 17. Processing quality assurance by Terramodel-HDMS.

Cairn Energy, Bangladesh. QA surveyor and Company Rep, aboard MV Wira Keris and daughter vessel Bengal Producer. QA of Bathymetric, magnetometer, sidescan and Mesotech sonar surveys performed by Romona, in the vicinity of the Sangu A platform.
Brunei Shell. Company Site Representative on the Armada Goodman, assisting pigging, hydrotest and nitrogen packing of three pipelines in the Fairley and Champion West fields. Additional work involved cable tray installation, blasting and painting, topside piping and installation of ESDV and MOV valves. (No hydrographic survey).
Brunei Shell. Reviewed ~1700 charted pinnacles, found by MBES survey in the Iron Duke and Brunei Shoals surveys, for significance for pipelay. Method was by 3-D view using Terramodel software.
Dredging Surveyor, Brunei. CSR and dredging surveyor during dredging of a load-out berth for a jacket and topsides.
Relief Operations Surveyor. Brunei Shell Petroleum. Routine duties included control of the survey vessel 'Armada Hydro', and support for various extra-departmental projects involving pipeline route surveys and pre-rigmove debris surveys. Eliminated a backlog of project reports, additionally QC'd all bathymetric surveys performed for BSP during 2004. Reviewed the bathymetric database; produced a plan to complete survey of the continental shelf. QA/HSE surveyor aboard Ensco-51 during a rigmove from CWWJ-02 to FBWJ-01; also produced bathymetric contours for Brunei as an incidental service.

Sakhalin Energy. Phase II. Landfall dredging of two 30" pipelines and cable conduits for the planned Lunskoye platform, aboard JdN trailer dredge Cristoforo Columbo. C-Nav and Aquarius LRTK, Octans III fog/heave compensator, and Simrad EM3000 MBES. Processing quality assurance by Terramodel and HDMS.
Sakhalin Energy. MBES review. QA analysis of MBES survey acquired by Fugro. Reson Seabat 8101, QA by the use of Terramodel and HDMS.
2003
Brunei Shell QA surveyor, Bathymetric Database project. The clients' database, comprising more than 15900 km2 of SBES and MBES surveys from 1970-2003, was in poor condition. The 19 million soundings were sorted, corrected and selected within Nautical Charting guidelines and RMSE's estimated. The database was left in a state designed for rapid and easy future maintenance. Software: Terramodel, HDMS.
Brunei Shell QA surveyor, ROV surveys. A drilling incident resulted in the potential de-stabilization of soils beneath a jack-up rig. ROV survey, using Mesotech sonar for positioning and Seaking bathy, provided information for analysis. Benchmarks were established to enable comparison of future surveys. Software: Terramodel, Terravista.
Brunei Shell QA Representative, ROV pipeline inspection, Brunei. QA of Visualworks processing produced by Thales Geo-solutions. Provided QA of about 130km of pipelines, out of 805km surveyed and QA'd. Software: Visualworks, Visualedit.
Brunei Shell QA surveyor, Champion Multibeam survey. 91.5km2 of 1x1m MBES survey (92 million soundings) had been acquired within the Champion field, by contractor Thales Geosolutions. Reviewed the data, and highlighted several data faults. After reprocessing by Thales, again reviewed the data and eliminated errors, reviewed the clients extensive list of historical pinnacles and obstructions to remove or confirm vigias, and selected the data into manageable 5x5m files. Brunei Shell QA surveyor. Rigmoves. Provided QA of Thales surveyors moving the Ensco-51 to two platforms, and the Energy Searcher to an open location.

Brunei Shell QA Representative, ROV pipeline inspection. Brunei. Provision of survey QA and PTW liaison for 3 weeks of ROV survey aboard 'Bodo Mariner'. Contractor was Thales Geo-solutions, using Visualworks for subsequent processing.
Brunei Shell QA Representative, Beachpull trenching and jetting, Lumut, Brunei Provision of survey QA for a dredging and subsequent jetting project, in support of the Hyundai-built 28" pipeline from Champion 7 to BLNG plant. Terramodel, HDMS.
2001-2002
Brunei Shell QA Representative, breakwater repair, construction and channel dredging, Kuala Belait, Brunei. Provision of survey QA for a HAM dredging spread of two rockbarges, cutter and trailer dredges constructing or repairing 2.4km of breakwater and 650,000 m3 of associated dredging and reclamation. Terramodel, HDMS.
2001
Party Chief – surveyor, CTOC Cakerawala field, for Thales Geosolutions. Installed a tripod jacket and four-legged jacket, the first jackets of a new field, from the Saipem HLV 'Pearlmarine', using L/USBL, GNS2, Deltalink, Spot, Multi3, total station, and level.
Party Chief – surveyor, Conoco Natuna field, for Thales Geosolutions. Sonardyne EHF metrology for spoolpiece design, aboard vessel "Petani Shamal", using ROV, Sonardyne EHF-Inclinometer-digiquartz compatts, APS3, LUSBL, GNS2, Multi2.
Woodside QC representative. Delilah-1, NW Shelf. Routine rigmove of the MODU Ocean General in 53m of water. Fugro MRDGPS, Starfix.Seis, PCTug.
Woodside QC representative, Legendre export system installation, NW Shelf, Australia. DP vessel CSO Venturer. Installation of a calm buoy, drilled piles and flowline, using an 11-transponder Sonardyne array, Fugro MRDGPS, PC-Seis.
Shell QC representative, Malampaya project, Philippines. MODU Atwood Falcon. Vessel employed installing christmas trees on the Malampaya subsea manifold, in a very tight time window prior to the arrival of Solitaire for pipe laydown. Project used Racal GNS2 and Tracs TDMA, Multifix. The Tracs system failed at commencement. However by adopting a co-operative approach the contractor successfully completed task in 800m+ water, and removed the rig without delaying Solitaire.
2000
Shell QC representative, Malampaya project, Philippines. Fallpipe vessel Rollingstone. Vessel employed constructing prelay pipeline supports in support of Solitaire. Fallpipe ROV equipped with Seabat 8125, sonardyne L/USBL, TSS335B. Racal Skyfix and Multifix DGPS, QPS Qinsy and Terramodel.
Shell. QC representative, Malampaya project, Philippines. Fallpipe vessel Rocky Giant. Vessel employed constructing pipeline supports through coral bombie area, then armouring the pipeline close to landfall. Fallpipe ROV equipped with Seabat 9001, smartwire, TSS335B. Racal Skyfix and Multifix DGPS, Nesa PDS1000, IP400.
QA report, New Zealand Charting (commercial) survey. HMNZS Resolution, Shipping Lane 1. Received training in Fliedermaus software, reviewed HMNZS Resolution multibeam Calibration and Audit reports. Subsequently provided a critique of the HMNZS Resolution survey of Block 5, Shipping Lane 1, for Land Information New Zealand. (LINZ).
QC representative, Offshore NW Australia. Maenad-1 wellsite. Provided QC/QA to Chevron Australia during a rig move of the Modu 'Marine 500'. The 'Marine 500' is a deepwater rig with 10000 feet of wire and 3500 feet of chain on 8 anchors; both the exit and new wells were in 1200m of water. The departure was marred when the #8 winch spontaneously ran off its wire, which dropped to the seabed below. The wire was successfully grappled with the assistance of the survey team, recovered and refitted prior to the rig moving off. The rest of the move was uneventful.
1999
Komaritim Party Chief, Maharkam Delta, Kalimantan. Party chief/ surveyor of a party of 8 survey personnel, backfilling three river crossing trenches of the 42" Peciko gas pipeline, of Total Indonesie. Technique adopted was to use a cutter suction dredge, with a fall pipe and diffuser secured by a tug with a three way mooring, and as a separate operation, targeted dumping from split hopper barges. The river was tidal, with a reversing flow of up to 2.2 knots. Equipment used was Hydro, with Sercel NR103 GPS, Marimatech echosounder and GeoAcoustics sub-bottom profiler.
BHP Client representative. Kalimantan. QC surveyor during reconnaissance survey of the Barito river, (about 300km) to assess its navigability for shipping. Equipment used was a HydroTrac echosounder, Ceeducer, Trimble Geo-explorer, and Racal Landstar.
Party Chief, Racal Survey. Zafiro Field, Equatorial Guinea. Projects were the removal of the barge BOS-300, removal and wet stowage of chains of the FSO Harrier, using Skyfix, Skyfix Spot, GNS1, Simrad 400 and Oceaneering ROV.
Racal Survey Party Chief, Castoro 8, laying 10" and 40" infield pipelines for the Zafiro project off Malabo, Equatorial Guinea. Installed a PLEM using Sonardyne EHF acoustics and underwater gyrocompass.
1998
Racal Survey South Africa as Area Surveyor. Quality Control, preparation of pre-project data, checking and proofing final reports for projects throughout West Africa. PC/Surveyor on rig move for Ocean Energy, offshore Cote d'Ivoire.
TL Geohydrographics, Malaysia as party Chief onboard Nippon Steel's barge Kuroshio II during pipelay operations in EPMI's fields offshore Terengganu, Peninsular Malaysia.
QC Surveyor for BHP/Santos during rig move of Atwood Southern Cross to Banka-Banka 1 location, Timor Sea

Expert Witness, maritime incident, observing survey and resurvey of electric cable across the Madura Straits, Surabaya, Indonesia.
TL Geohydrographics as Shift Surveyor onboard Nippon Steels LB Kuroshio II during jacket installation and pipelay in the Tantawan Field, Gulf of Thailand.
Racal Survey Australia as Party Chief / Surveyor aboard the vessel Miclyn Achiever, conducting a 2x2km site survey of the Pitcairn-1 site, off Dampier, W.A.
Won and executed the contract let by AMSA for survey of the Outer Barrier Reef Shipping Route, as both contractor and OIC surveyor. 8600n.m. of soundings in the Coral Sea, using the MV Cape Grafton. Ship equipped with AD25, 15/210kHz deep-sea tranducer, Trimble GPS and OmniStar, with GeoNav and GeoComp software. Produced 58 charts using GeoComp and AutoCAD. The survey was appraised and accepted by the RAN Hydrographic Service, and incorporated in the reprints of four maritime charts.
1996
Racal Survey Australia as Surveyor onboard the survey vessel Lady Elaine during the tow and installation of the West Tuna and Bream B concrete gravity bases and subsequent seabed pipe tow-outs, of 90km and 130km for Dawson Rockwater, Bass Strait, Australia.
Racal Survey Malaysia as Surveyor during bathymetric survey of Nok Kaew area, Gulf of Thailand for Western Geophysical.
Racal Survey Singapore as Party Chief/Surveyor aboard Saipem's lay barge Castoro V during the lay of the 55km, 24" Tantawan pipeline for Bechtel/PTT in the Gulf of Thailand.
Racal Survey Australia as Surveyor onboard McDermott's laybarge DB17 during the East Spar, 10" by 53 kilometre pipelay, to Varanus Island.
Racal Survey Australia as Party Chief/ Surveyor during the survey of the Burnie and Devonport outfalls, for APPM.
Racal Survey Australia as Surveyor during the blasting of the Port Hedland channel, for BHP Iron Ore. Processed in the field for transfer to the blasting vessel. Surveys were performed to IHO High Precision standard, as the results were critical for bulk carrier under keel clearance.
Offshore Navigation Malaysia as Party Chief aboard the self-propelled barge Voyager-1" and AHT 'Berkat Kuat' for Petronas Carigali. Provided navigation services for anchoring in the Sotong, Dulang and Duyong gas fields and tracking of an ROV.
1991 – 1995
Contracted to Racal Survey Australia (RSA) as Surveyor and Party Chief, employed on pipeline route and construction surveys (e.g. Goodwyn A to North Rankin A project; Wandoo interfield pipeline project) and oil rig site survey and positioning. Surveys performed using Racal OASlS and GNS software, GPS, Syledis and Sonardyne positioning systems; Krupp, Klein and EG & G underwater equipment.
1991
Contracted to Ballast - Nedam Dredging SDN BHD as Site Surveyor in Port Klang, Malaysia during reclamation of mangrove land for light industrial building sites. Plant used were the trailer - suction dredge 'Lelystad' and cutter-suction dredge 'Castor'. Survey control by Syledis SB5, using Namasys software for data processing.
1988 – 1991
Commissioning Executive Officer, Royal Australian Navy, HMAS PALUMA. The lead ship of the PALUMA class of four 350 tonne survey vessels. Equipped with ELAC sounders and QUBIT CHART V and TRAC V data-loggers and processors. Introduced the RAN to automated processing by conducting a bathymetric survey in the Gulf of St Vincent, making use of the QUBlT system. PALUMA conducted surveys off Cooktown, successful wreck searches using towed and hull-mounted sidescan sonar, conducted surveys for initial charting of remote northern Australian waters, plus a precise survey off Dunk Island, in preparation for the trails of the Laser Airborne Depth Sounder.
1987 – 1988
Geodetic Officer, Royal Australian Navy, HMAS FLINDERS. Tasks performed were geodesy, tidal analysis, deep sounding reduction using Mathews' tables, XBT observations, coastlining, and the production of fair sheets and reports of survey. Acted as Survey Motor Boat OIC during surveys of the Prince of Wales channel and Torres Reef, and off Groote Eylandt. FLINDERS conducted charting surveys in northern Queensland, northern Papua New Guinea, and the Gulf of Carpentaria during the period.
1987
Navigating / Survey Officer, Royal Australian Navy, HMAS BRUNEI. Employed on charting duties off Cooktown, North Queensland, and the Montague sound, north-west Australia.
1986
RAN H4 course. IHO category B recognised course. Instruction in land survey techniques, and hydrographic survey including tidal analysis. 6 months.
1983 – 1986
Officer, Royal Australian Navy. Initially served as an Astro-navigation instructor at the navigation school, HMAS WATSON. Thereafter served on a Fremantle class patrol boat, whilst earning a Bridge watchkeeper's certificate. On earning the certificate, posted to the RAN IHO Cat B course, HMAS PENGUIN, prior to Survey ship posting.
1982 – 1983
Employee of Laurie, Montgomery and Pettit Pty Ltd. Working for registration as a Land Surveyor. Mainly employed as a field party chief on remote area coal exploration surveys, layout of the Adelaide O-Bahn track, and rural cadastral work for mining leases.
1979 – 1982
Employee of WestHam Dredging. Employed on the 2,100,000m3 Port Kembla Coal Loader Project, which included the reclamation of foreshore land and deepening of Port Kembla Inner Harbour. Next employed as site surveyor, then surveyor in charge, on the construction of the King Bay Supply Base, Dampier. 1,250,000m3 of material was used to reclaim land, and turn a beach into a rig tender harbour. The works included construction of breakwaters and bund walls, and onshore control of drilling, blasting and payloaders. Final project was the deepening of the Parker Point channel, Dampier. 1,600,000m3 of maintenance dredging.
