BACKGROUND
Since leaving the Army I have pursued my new career in construction with enthusiasm and have been fortunate in developing both my technical skills and my experience in a diverse range of projects. I have been responsible for the administration and management of varying numbers of personnel, specialist suppliers and sub-contractors both on and off-site. This included my providing motivation and leadership on time crucial projects and involvement in the development and control of design and quality assurance. In addition, I have played a key role in the development and maintenance of both on-site Health and Safety Policies and Environmental Plans.
Although primarily a committed team member I have been frequently called upon to act independently, as a result I am well used to working with little or no supervision and enjoy doing so. Some of the personal qualities upon which I have relied are reliability, confidence, loyalty and commitment to tasks. During my career in the military I was frequently located in isolated Third World areas working with the local population. This interaction required the development of working relationships with local suppliers and contractors. This also included the motivation, management and supervision of directly employed labour. In particular I was involved in small scale construction projects in Northern Kenya providing additional infra-structure to local communities using locally employed personnel. Prior to joining the army I worked in a variety of locations in Southern Africa in the Security industry. As part of my remit I managed locally employed labour in a supervisory role.
In addition to my general building experience, I have developed key skillsets in the management of site set-up, infra-structure groundworks, drainage, temporary and permanent road works. This experience has been gained in a variety of project situations ranging from social housing refurbishment, new build schools, new build community centres, new build low rise housing and both new build and refurbishment of railway stations, both surface and sub-surface I have actively participated in a wide variety of CPD and project specific training and I intend seeking full membership of the Chartered Institute of Building at the earliest opportunity.
I am now at a point in my career where I feel that I would benefit from gaining experience with a blue-chip organisation in which I may utilise my experience and technical knowledge to maximum advantage whilst obtaining and developing my commercial awareness and expertise. To this end I am seeking a position which would enable me to build on my existing levels of expertise to the benefit of both the organisation and myself.
I am currently working for Parsons Brinckerhoff as a General Superintendent of Construction specifically acting as an onsite representative on a "Cut and Cover" Vehicle Tunnel on the Jumeirah Palm Project in Dubai, approximate value is AED 435 million (66.9million GBP) and the Infrastructure Works package on the Jumeirah Palm Crescent, approximate value AED165 million. I report directly to the Senior Construction Manager and act as his onsite representative responsible for directing and controlling Production & Progress, Health & Safety Management, Environmental Management, Risk Assessments and Management, Quality Assurance & Control Management liaising with the consultant engineers, designers, main contractors, sub-contractors and client.
