PROFILE:
Stephen is a “self-starter” who has developed into a forward thinking construction professional, specialising in the delivery of high quality, challenging and complex projects, on time and in cost.
EMPLOYMENT HISTORY:
Following completion of my Graduate Diploma in 1988, I commenced full time employment at Rooff within the Quantity Surveying department. My time at Rooff has proved beneficial and rewarding and has acted as an excellent springboard for my career development.
The outcome of accepting challenging opportunities has lead to two major promotions. With the changing roles, the growth in responsibility and the broadening experience across construction disciplines has continued to have a positive affect on my career and personal development.
Current Position: Property Development Manager / Clients Project Manager
From: October 1998 to present.
Details of role: Rooff are a medium sized London based Building Contractor and Residential Property Developer, specialising in high quality Central London Residential and mixed use Commercial developments. We give a strong emphasis to Contemporary Architecture and Interior Design, whilst working with prestigious London based Architectural practices.
Another main feature of Rooff is the specialist in-house joinery company (Passmore Joinery Ltd), which produces bespoke joinery for the development and contracting operations.
Acting as the clients Project Manager, my role covers the full range of property development aspects and I have delivered on the following range of schemes;

A large Joint Venture Project on an Environmentally considerate multi-use scheme, incorporating a Health Centre, Nursery, Pharmacy, Dentist and 75 residential apartments, consisting of 44 private sale and 31 social housing units.

From the middle of 2001 I have also had a role in the Business Development of the Group. This involves managing the Business Plan and Marketing Plan for the Company. I report to the Managing Director and other key heads of department. The role also includes reporting on the Performance Management of the firm in association with our “Key Performance Indicators”. This is linked to Business Performance Measurement as part of our Quality Assurance Plan.

Working on the company’s speculative development scheme in 1994, gave me an insight into the property development side of the business. This triggered a personal interest in that particular field. In 1997 an opening arose in our property department and I began to appraise new sites and started to learn the fundamentals of development. This culminated in the first new site acquisition during October 1997.

Details of role: The role covered the management of two assistant surveyors and gave me complete responsibility for financial and surveying matters on my own construction projects, whilst reporting directly to the Surveying Director.

Since 1987 I have carried out many hours of CPD, involving training seminars, conferences, technical workshops, Health and Safety training and first aid. This all being part of an active member of the CIOB.
HOBBIES AND INTERESTS:
I have played competitive football since the age of 9 and still am. I enjoy most racket and ball sports with other interests covering angling, golf, classic and historic cars and historic buildings. I am a keen gardener when time permits and also enjoy home improvement and refurbishment, which included a lot of work on my last property, a Grade 2 Listed Cottage.
I have also been an active member of an Amateur Dramatic group since 1984 with a wide and varied range of roles being played.
Interests that also cross into work areas relate to historic buildings on one side but also a keen interest in the contemporary design of buildings and interiors.
I am married with a young family. My wife has previously lived in the Gulf for 6 years, hence our interest in the area.
