HV Electrical Substation Project Engineer
As the HV Electrical Substation Project Engineer it was my responsibility to ensure that the Substations were constructed and commissioned to TCO policy. We had 9 HV Substations on site all construction finished with just a little commissioning to do and we actually have a few on line which are supporting the existing plant at the moment. The Substations that are on line were also my responsibility to ensure that they run efficiently and support the operations teams to optimize the plant daily output. I had the responsibility of the budgets for all the Substations and the management of the resources for the Substations. I carried out annual assessments on my engineering team to monitor their efficiency and commitment and award salary increases as appropriate. My engineering team consisted of 18 expat engineers and about 40 national engineers.

Atlantic LNG. Train 4 LNG Expansion Project, Trinidad, West Indies

Lead Electrical Engineer Construction & Commissioning
As the client's Lead Electrical Engineer on this project I am responsible for monitoring and review of Contractor and sub-supplier's detailed design drawings and documents and to ensure Contractor's procedures and schedules are adhered to.

Saipem S.p.A. Milan (Italy) & Ulsan (South Korea) On the Sabratha Gas Platform Project May 2004- December 2004

Electrical Commissioning Engineer
I was the Lead Electrical Commissioning Engineer in Milan on the Sabratha project, which is to construct and commission an offshore gas platform in the Mediterranean Sea off the Libyan coast, this project comprised of an integrated deck structure.
* This consists of 3 Siemens 10Mw Gas Turbo Generators generating at 6.6kV.
* A distribution system of step down transformers and switchboards to the main operating level of 440v
* Black Start System (2Mw Diesel Generator) this is all controlled by an ECS (Electrical Control System) supplied by ABB
* There are also the usual AC voltage & DC voltage UPS systems required by the generating and distribution equipment.
* I revised the specifications and drawings for the electrical system for the deck structure.
* I am also compiling the manuals for the offshore commissioning phase of the project.
* I was transferred to the construction yard in Ulsan South Korea to supervise the electrical construction and pre-commissioning phases of the integrated deck structure until sail out.

Linde AG Munich (Germany) Project office for the Hammerfest LNG project
October 2003-May 2004

Electrical Project Engineer (Technical Author)
I was employed as an Electrical Project Engineer in Munich on the Hammerfest LNG project, which was to construct and commission an LNG plant on a floating barge and sail it out after construction in Spain to a position on the northern coast of Norway
* Power Generation System consisted of 5 GE (LM6000) gas turbines total capacity of 225Mw distributed at 132kV.
* It also had an Electrical Control Supervisory System (ECSS) by ABB.
* I reviewed drawings and specifications.
* I was also the Technical Author compiling the Electrical Commissioning/Start-Up and operating manuals for the project.

Bechtel International, Atlantic LNG Extension Project, Trinidad, West Indies

August 2001 - August 2003

Lead Electrical Field Engineer

I was the Lead Electrical Engineer on this project, which was the extension of the existing LNG plant. I was involved in the construction through to commissioning and start-up. The project was to construct 2 additional LNG trains each containing 6 gas turbine driven compressors and 2 new solar power gas turbines (10Mw each) also a diesel driven black-start generator (1Mw) for an upgrade in the plant power system.

I had overall responsibility for:

Any design changes and 'red-lining' of drawings on site
Being the Senior Authorised Person on site
Ordering of materials making sure the procurement department is keeping up with the construction and that there is no shortage of materials
Making sure that vendors are on site when and where they are required

The plant itself contained all the usual HV/LV switchgear, transformers UPS systems, pumps and all types of ancillary equipment.

I had 6 field engineers in my team liasing with about 500 electrical craft people.

General Electric Power Systems for G.R.E. Minnesota, Lakefield Junction Generating Station

January 2001 - August 2001

Lead Electrical Engineer - 500Mw Power Station (the station consists of 6-7EA Dual Fuel 85Mw Units)

As the GE Electrical Engineer I was responsible for the installation and commissioning of all GE electrical equipment on the 6 - 7EA dual fuel gas turbines on site. This included all turbine ancillary equipment such as 13.8 kV generators and 13.8 kV switchgear, 5 kV switchgear and motors for the starting system, 480v motors, switchgear, battery systems and chargers, DC pumps and switchgear.

* Checking and accepting all 3rd party testers work on all associated generator and switchgear protection
* Assisting in the commissioning of EX2000 excitation system and liasing with the MkV controls engineer for commissioning of instrumentation and control systems and eradicating any problems on start-up
* General acceptance duties on all GE equipment on site

I was also involved in the commissioning of the 345 kV SF6 Siemens line breakers and 13.8 kV -345 kV step-up system transformers.

GE Power Systems for Esso Production, (Malaysia)

August 2000 - December 2000

Electrical Project Engineer - Construction and commissioning of a HV & LV switchboard system

My duties on this project were to monitor that the construction, internal wiring, and installation of all switchboard equipment was carried out to GE standards. I was also available to answer any technical queries that the client might have.

* The HV switchboards contained 8 GE Power/Vac circuit breakers for feeders and bus-ties and 9 GE Limitamp vacuum controllers for large motor drives including soft start systems, all protected by various types of GE Multilin relays.
* The LV switchboard has 5 GE AKD 10 ACB`s for feeders and bus-ties and a Mcc distribution system of over 250 various starters with Multilin protection.

I was overseeing the factory functional and commissioning tests of the switchboards and their protection systems, and also setting up and controlling the factory acceptance test for the client and the national electrical inspectorate.

G E Power Systems for Enron Energy, Illinois, Lincoln Energy Centre

January 2000 - July 2000

Lead Electrical Engineer - 680Mw Power Station (the station consisted 8-7EA 85Mw Units)

My duties on this project were identical to those of my more recent project for G.R.E. in Minnesota (above) except these machines were single fuel simple cycle units.

Duke/Fluor Daniel for InnCOGEN, Trinidad, West Indies

May 1999 - November 1999

Electrical Start-Up Engineer - 250 Mw Power Station (The station consists of 3-7EA 85Mw Units)

As Electrical Start-Up Engineer, I was the senior electrical person on site in charge of collating all construction activities and commissioning activities into a turnkey project for the client.

* I was responsible for writing of all electrical commissioning and operational procedures and for HV and LV testing on all electrical equipment on site
* I was responsible for all protection relays testing which consists mainly of GE Multilin relays.
* I was also responsible for the commissioning of the Black Start Detroit Diesel Generating set operating at 4.16 kV.
* I was also responsible for O.J.T. for the InnCOGEN Electrical Operators on High Voltage Switching and safety and general electrical maintenance
* I was involved with the installation and commissioning of the site control systems
* I drafted and controlled the site permit system
The project consisted of
* 3 GE MS 7001AE Turbines generating at 13.8 kV controlled by the Mark V Speedtronic system.
* 132 kV via 3 GE Prolec step up transformers,
* Siemens SF6 filled breakers
* Siemens vacuum breakers
* 4.16 kV for operational utility switchboard.

Petrobras, Brazil, South America

January 1999 - May 1999

Electrical Installation/Commissioning Engineer

Offshore Installation – I was engaged in the installation and commissioning of offshore telemetry systems for the mooring of tankers to Single Point Mooring Buoys and the monitoring of the pumping and loading procedure during the transfer to the product to the tankers. This involved the installation and commissioned of several pressure and temperature devices, current and voltage checking units and the computer controlled telemetry unit to link back to the offshore platform and the main computerized control unit. I also installed and commissioned the GPS system for the positioning of the tankers onto the mooring buoys, and also all the solar power units required to power-up the systems on the mooring buoys.

Electrical Construction/Commissioning Engineer - Pipeline Pumping Stations

I was engaged in the construction & commissioning of all the electrical equipment in several pumping stations. This included HV and LV motors and associated switch gear and protection systems for up to and including 34.5 kV, stand-by diesel generator sets, lighting systems, cathodic protection systems etc. I also carried out on the job training of Colombian nationals, and was BP's authorised electrical person on site for HV switching and isolation and the synchronisation of the diesel generator sets when required. I was also the client's authorised signatory for all electrical certification carried out on site.

Qatar Liquefied Gas Company, Middle East

March 1996 – August 1997

Senior Electrical Supervisor - North Field Bravo Platform

As the platform senior authorised electrical person, it was my responsibility to perform all the synchronisation and changeover of the generators and HV switching duties. I was in direct control of all the platform electrical equipment that consisted of 3 EGT Typhoon dual fuel gas turbines delivering 4.5Mw at 6.6 kV, which was then distributed through various transformers to the different voltage level switchboards.
There were also 2-1Mw diesel driven generator sets, several UPS systems for 230v, 48v, 28v plus the usual offshore platform equipment such as HV/LV motors with associated protection relay, and all other electrical equipment. The HV/LV switchgear was all Merlin Gerin and the complete electrical system is controlled by Merlin Gerin computerised power distribution system.

My main duties were the day to day running of the electrical section this covers all aspect of preparing permits to work setting up and running the computerized maintenance and stores system SAP. I was responsible for setting up the training matrix for the electrical technician and assessing them on a yearly basis both in the construction and commissioning phases in the yards and during the offshore book-up.

I was the company electrical representative preparing for and participating in the certifying authorities commissioning authorisation checks, reviewing and then participating in the operational test procedures on platform electrical equipment which were carried out to Total Opercomm and Mobile Oil specifications. Through my close working relationship with the Instrument & Control department on OTPs I have gained invaluable experience and a good working knowledge of this discipline.

BHP Petroleum, Liverpool Bay, U.K.

January 1995 - March 1996

Electrical Construction/Commissioning Engineer

I undertook construction duties onshore in the construction yards and then commissioning duties offshore during the hook-up phase.

This involved carrying out tests on a wide range of equipment for Lloyds authorisation, commissioning duties on the GELM 6000 gas turbines and their Speedtronic MkV controls systems and the 13.8 kV switchboards including ABB relay commissioning tests. Also involved with GEC on their ISIS and Gemstart MCC controls systems and Cegelec on their variable speed drive system controlling the 18 Mw gas compressors, brush controls on their power management system (Prismic System), Siemens HV control systems and Gutor UPS equipment The complete distribution network had the facility to be controlled remotely from the main switch room via an ABB SCS90 system.

I had the authorisation for witnessing tests and signing for systems on behalf of BHP and also supervising teams of electrical & instruments commissioning technicians and distributing their commissioning duties.

August 1986-October 1994
Electrical Supervisor - Clyde Platform

I was responsible for the co-ordination and execution of the platform maintenance programme carried out by a multi-disciplined work force. I was 'asset owner' for all electrical modules on the platform, including power generation, distribution (transformers & switchgear).

The platform had generating capacity of 30 Mw from 7 dual fuel EGT TB 5000 gas turbine and 2 – 1Mw diesel driven emergency generators, with voltage levels up to and including 11Kv.It was my duty to organise manning levels, leave schedules and all training requirements. I was the platform senior authorised electrical person responsible for the entire platform HV switching and generation changeovers and for preparing and authorising electrical permits to work and participating in certifying authorities' annual visitations.

I implemented the planned maintenance system, and was responsible for the electrical yearly budgets. I in the absence of the Instrument Supervisor, I was in control of the instrument/control technicians. I am comfortable with computer controlled stores systems such as ENGRADE, RAPIER, TERAMIN AND MESC.
