Reporting to the Board of Directors, my role encompassed the management of the distribution of kitchen furniture from the production/assembly areas, through the warehouse and dispatch areas, to the customer's doorstep, predominantly supplying the public sector market. Being responsible for 17 articulated vehicles and several rigids I played a central role in the movement of up to 8000 erected and flat packed kitchen units per week; fulfilling £15 million worth of orders on an annual basis.

I developed systems and procedures to increase accountability and raised order accuracy levels from 65% to 87%. I also decreased the usage of transport subcontractors dramatically; from a daily occurrence to an exceptional occurrence. I reduced employee absence levels through the introduction of tighter controls, personal protective equipment, job safety practices and increased levels of training.

1999 – 2003 Operations Manager, GIST (www.gistworld.com)
GIST (Formerly BOC DS) is a specialist supply chain solution provider to Marks & Spencer

2002 – 2003. I managed the Contract Logistics Operation for Marks & Spencer's largest single supplier (Northern Foods). This customer based site doubled as a Primary Distribution Centre collecting, consolidating and distributing product for 20 other leading suppliers in England, Scotland and Eire. The operation ran 30 articulated vehicles, fulfilling in excess of 1000 movements per week. My role involved the overall operation of the depot; controlling costs and maximizing profitability whilst achieving a high level of customer service.

2001 – 2002. Working at the Central Logistics Office reporting directly to the National
Operations Planning Manager. I was responsible for the daily planning of the Primary
Distribution part of the Marks & Spencer Foods contract. This was a contract dedicated 100% to Marks & Spencer Plc, within the U.K. Responsibilities included the leadership of a
Network Planning Team (responsible for the Primary Distribution of 90% of the food for M&S
stores), fulfilling the requirements of 130 customers to Marks & Spencer, with an accuracy level in excess of 99.8%. During this time GIST employed 4,500 people and had a turnover of £230 Million, moving £4.5 Billion worth of merchandise per year.

1999 – 2000. A 15-month industrial placement at the largest Marks & Spencer food Distribution Centre based at Hemel Hempstead. Spending 5 months working in the Transport Shift Manager team running over 60 vehicles, followed by 10 months working as Warehouse Shift Manager. This involved managing a shift of over 40 warehouse operatives, loading, unloading, picking and consolidating loads, processing over 50,000 units per day.
I managed a project for Marks & Spencer, which saved them and their suppliers over £500,000 per annum. I gained sponsorship for my final year of University on completion of this placement.
