Career objective:
After some years on the field of Information Technology I want to go back to Civil Engineering. I will be able to contribute with some of my experience on software development and electronics. I look forward also to learn quite a bit. I prefer a position in Northern NJ or New York City, but I will consider relocation. I don't mind some travel.

About myself:
I have more than ten years of experience as a structural engineer, designing mainly high raise concrete buildings on earthquake zones and mostly using programs developed by me. Lately I have concentrated more into software development, and I have become an excellent C++ programmer in the Windows platform.

As part of this activity I worked for an architect to develop a couple of very interesting applications in AutoCAD. The first one was a program to design grounding systems for electric substations. The second one was a program to assist the designer on the creation of complex roofing systems.

I am a very creative person. Everywhere I worked I have contributed with a new perspective or an alternative way of doing things. I like new technical challenges. I do the research and then apply the basic engineering principles to come up with a solution. For instance in the last few months I tried the field of electronics and designed and built a few microprocessor based devices for a security application.

I am fluent in Spanish and I can read French.

My work history:
1989 – (Boca Raton, FL and Morristown, NJ)
Worked as an independent consultant on several software projects. My main clients were
* The architect Rafael Jimenez - AutoCAD applications.
* The Historical Research Center - graphics, database and security applications – including the development of hardware device.
* Programa – Development of handheld computers for automotive diagnosis.
* Sentimental Journeys – Software to make personalized cartoons for kids – a very nice idea.
* Harcourt Brace, Orlando, FL – Educational software
* IBM, Boca Raton, FL – Educational software

1983 – 1989 – Citicorp (Pompano Beach, FL)
Developed several office applications to introduce microcomputers to the Latin American branches of the bank.

1981 – 1983 – Elemesa (Caracas, Venezuela)
In charge of a small team of engineers designing several 18-story reinforced concrete buildings. The analysis and design was done using software developed by myself. Quite a challenge with a microcomputer with 64 Kbytes of memory and two 8" floppies of 2 Mbytes each – I still have the computer.

1979-1981 – Brewer & Brewer Eng. (Caracas, Venezuela)
Design of several reinforced concrete high-rise buildings.

1977-1978 – Imgecil (Puerto Ordaz, Venezuela)
Field engineer on the erection of a steel trussed bridge.

1970-1976 (Santiago, Chile)
Several structural design projects including steel and reinforced concrete structures. Developed my first structural analysis programs in Fortran.
My Education:
Civil Engineer diploma (bachelor) from the Universidad Catolica de Chile. This was a six-year program.
