CONTRACTS MANAGER

EXPERIENCE
More than 4 years in medium voltage switchgear and associated equipment contract management, including estimating, budgeting, contracting, purchasing, and profit taking.

Experience in on-site construction management, effectively schedule, monitor, and inspect all work from start to handover to customer.

Work effectively with, engineers, commercial officers, contractors, inspectors, overseas and local suppliers and end-clients.

Instrumental in tendering and negotiating a 5 year switchgear supply agreement with Sasol.

List of projects tendered, negotiated and managed on behalf of ABB:

* Sasol Synfuels Secunda - Gascircuit 1, 2, 3 and 4 switchgear and associated equipment and services projects totaling R 80 m and successfully executed over a period of 4 years. Associated equipment and services includes SCADA's, Fast Transfer Devices, Control Power Distribution Panels, removal of old Switchgear and replacing with new air and gas insulated switchgear including cabling, busducting and commissioning of systems.

* Sasol Synfuels Secunda – Project Turbo switchgear, SCADA, protection panels, Is Limiter and busducting including installation and commissioning of system totaling R 30 m.

* Sasol Synfuels Secunda – Polypropolene 2 switchgear, SCADA, protection panels and busducting including installation and commissioning totaling R 24 m.

* Sasol Polymers Sasolburg – Poly 3 switchgear and SCADA complete with installation and commissioning totaling R 14m.

* Sasol Synfuels, Sasol Infrachem and Natref - Ten switchgear renewal projects over the past 3 year totaling R 90 m.

* Tendered and supplied switchgear to various other clients including Mittal Steel, Highveld Steel, Columbus, ACSA etc.

20 years experience in high level maintenance and project management in a petrochemical environment (Sasol).

New and maintenance projects experience at the Sasol Plant in Secunda:

General Low and Medium Voltage Experience:

* Maintain, repair and replace 30 V, 48 V, 110 V and 220 V DC systems for process control power up to component level.

* Responsible for compiling specifications, scope of work and scope of supply for the DC systems replacement project including the technical recommendations for the purchasing department and over-seeing the installation process of 26 times DC systems including battery banks.

* Maintain, repair and replace 115 V AC UPS (un-interruptible power supply) systems up to component level.

* Responsible for compiling specifications, scope of work and scope of supply for the UPS systems replacement project including the technical recommendations for the purchasing department and over-seeing the installation process of 26 UPS systems including battery banks. Personally responsible for connecting and synchronizing loads to enable live replacement of the systems without any production downtime.

* Setting up procedures and testing of 6 X 60 MW, 11kV generators including short circuit, no load and protection function testing.

* Oversee commissioning of new plants including 380 volt, 525 volt, 6,6 kV switchgear, transformers, motors, DC and UPS systems and process control systems.

* Faultfinding and repair of process control systems controlled by relay and PLC systems.

* General repair work on electronic systems up to component level.

* Faultfinding and repair of Precipitator thyristor control systems.

* Replacing of 60 MW generator Automatic Voltage Regulators and Protection Relays.

General Switchgear Experience:

* Maintenance, faultfinding and repair of 6,6 / 11 kV Merlin Gerin and Alstom switchgear.

* Maintenance, faultfinding and repair of 380 / 525 Volt Siemens and Allenwest switchgear.

* Compiling specifications, negotiating, technical recommendations and Project Management on 5 medium voltage switchgear replacement projects at Sasol.

* Oversee retrofitting of incomer and tie circuit breakers on 525 Volt 2500A, 50kA Siemens Switchgear.

* Upgrade 525 volt switchgear to accommodate fused tear isolators to limit fault currents and re-arrange feeders to reduce production losses (downtime).

Reactive Power Correction Experience:

* Maintenance on 37 MW Oxygen compressor synchronous motor Automatic Voltage Regulators that automatically maintains and corrects the overall correct power factor at the Sasol Plant.

* On smaller plants power factor correction capacitors are switched in out of circuit to maintain the correct power factor. I have seen some of the Systems and have theoretical knowledge of these systems but never had hands on experience working on them.

Motor Starting Project Experience:

* Compiling specifications, negotiating, technical recommendations and Project Management on replacing 2 times 6,6 kV, 460 kW Cascade Medium Voltage variable speed drives with new generation ABB low voltage ACS 600 variable speed drives including step-down transformers and new LV motors.

* Compiling specifications, negotiating, technical recommendations and Project Management on replacing 4 times mechanical speed control systems on coal feeders with Electronic variable speed drives.

* Experience and faultfinding on star delta, electronic soft-starter, fluid couplings, electromagnetic clutches, and pole changing starters and motors.

* ABB Power Products Medium Voltage, Elandsfontein, Gauteng 3/2004-Present

Manage 5 project managers, safety officer, site agent, contractors and all activities on site for petrochemical and industrial factories.

Schedule, monitor, and inspect all work from start to handover to customer.

Maintain budgets, drive schedules, process invoices, control overhead costs and profit take.
