Over 35 years experience in production, engineering, maintenance, and construction of various underground and surface mining projects. The mined products have included copper, molybdenum, gold, silver, lead, zinc, coal, gypsum, and talc. The construction projects have included up to $240million in mines, crushers, grinding mills, smelters, furnaces, leach fields, holding basins, and tailings storage dams.
WORK HISTORY
2006 – Present Sr. Civil Engineering Assistant in wastewater engineering for Pima County Government.
2003 – 2006 Construction Manager for a $17 million, 15 foot diameter x 2000 foot deep vertical shaft at a 600 tpd gold mine. This project included all the excavations, headframe erection, hoist machinery installation, start-up operations. Hecla Mining Co., El Dorado, Venezuela.
2001 – 2002 Construction Manager for a $2 million tailings dam structure and a $4.5 million electrical transmission line and switch gear upgrade from 13.8 to 34.5 kv. Hecla Mining Co., El Dorado, Venezuela.
1997 – 1999 Construction Manager for the emergency cleanup of a breached tailings dam and restoration of a pristine creek bottom at the Pinto Creek Mine during a rainy season of El Nino proportions. The project included removal of 500,000 cubic yards of tailings debris, removal of 125,000 cubic yards of soil material, erection and removal of several earthen dams including the largest which was 63 feet high with a 275 foot long crest, installation of pumping systems totaling 15,000 gallons per minute, hand washing 4000 lineal feet of drainage creek slopes and bottom, etc. The Winters Co., Miami, Arizona.
1996 – 1997 Senior Construction Supervisor for relocation of twin overland incline conveyors without compromising daily production at the largest copper mine in the world. Minproc Engineers, Inc., La Escondida, Chile.
1994 – 1996 Area Superintendent for construction of primary, secondary, and tertiary crushers as well as leach fields, ore processing plant, and wastewater treatment facilities for a $120 million fixed cost project. Fluor Daniel, Inc., El Refugio, Chile.
1990 – 1994 Senior Construction Supervisor for a $100 million gold crushing, grinding, and leaching facility. Continued with the retrofit of processing equipment and then another contract for the upgrade of plant facilities to increase production by 25%. Minproc Engineers, Inc., La Joya, Bolivia.
1987 – 1990 General Foreman for a 2000 ton per day copper, lead, zinc, gold, and silver mine. Also erected a 2500 foot decline ramp and hanging conveyor system. Supervised construction of a new tailings storage dam. American Pacific Co., San Pedro Sula, Honduras.
1983 - 1987 Owner and operator of a construction and cartage business. Increased the capacity of an existing tailings dam. Mexico Enterprises, Johnson, Vermont
1981 – 1983 Mine Superintendent for a 550 ton per day underground and open pit talc mine. Also supervised the maintenance and engineering departments. Eastern Magnesia Talc Co, Johnson, Vermont.
1979 – 1981 Quality Control Manager of surveying, structural backfill, concrete, piping, and structural steel for a $240 million copper flash smelter. Fluor Mining and Metals, Inc., Nacozari, Mexico.
1974 – 1979 Sr. Mining Engineer preparing banking documents for national and international mining projects through detailed mine designs. Also helped develop a computer software program for the Department of Energy to maximize dragline mining which produced a 37% increase in production rates at participating mines with 80, 120, 240, and 320 cubic yard machines. 1970 - 1974 Production and Maintenance Foreman at a 50,000 tpd underground and surface molybdenum mine. Climax Molybdenum Co., Climax, Colorado.
1964 – 1970 Production/Maintenance Superintendent for a cut and fill gypsum mine using draglines, shovels, and rail haulage. US Gypsum Co., Alabaster, Michigan.
