Chris Pain is a professional IT Specialist, Logistics, Administration and IT Manager with experience since 1984. His career commenced in the defence forces where he was security cleared to "Secret" level. After spending eight years in defence in various logistics Administration, transport and IT roles, and undertaking extensive further education, Chris moved into private enterprise in 1994.

Also due to the global focus of his role Chris is currently learning to speak Mandarin.

As well as being close to technology, Chris has managed and lead multi-disciplinary technical teams. September 2002 ¡V 2006
Laserex Medical Pty Ltd (previously known as Ellex Medical Pty Ltd)
Chief Information Technology Officer (CITO) - IT/Security/OH&S/Management
Laserex has been a world leader in the development of innovative ophthalmic laser solution for more than 15 years. It has established its own subsidiaries in the US (Laserex Systems Inc.) and Japan (Amphi Medical) - the world's largest ophthalmic markets, and has a worldwide distribution network in every region of the world. Laserex retains its head office in Adelaide, and has grown from a start-up to an internationally recognised public listed company on the ASX.
Responsibilities
„Í Chris reports to, and works in conjunction with the CEO and CFO, taking responsibility for the management and operations of the company's Information Systems, Security, OH&S and Projects. This involves making decisions on purchasing, dealing with vendors, project management and implementation, all business technology policy, staff recruitment, performance appraisals, all security issues, and OH&S.
„Í The company's infrastructure spans across the globe. When Chris joined Laserex in 2002 the IT infrastructure was in its initial startup stage, was very unreliable and causing significant disruptions and affecting productivity right across the business. Chris has taken Laserex to a global access system with dedicated servers and services to provide the business with MRP, multiple function databases, clustered servers, wifi, full remote access globally, and collaboration globally. Policy and procedures have been created along with a BCP, SLA, KPI and automated system reporting.
„Í On a day to basis Chris is responsible for all of Laserex's security ¡V from IT right through to building security, and this is done on an integrated basis. The security issues for Laserex are very important due to the high component of research and development conducted, and the need for total secrecy.
„Í When Chris joined Laserex he built a team of staff reporting to him; comprising help desk, MRP system support, and two technical staff based in the US. Chris is responsible for all aspects of hiring, performance appraisals, and staff development. There are also four staff located in other overseas locations who don't report directly to Chris, however he matrix manages them as a virtual team on a project by project basis. Chris is also involved in the IT integration of engineering projects.
Achievements
* Since joining Laserex, the company has enjoyed a major technology shift; increases in performance and global abilities have increased across the entire spectrum of IT services, service levels have increased from 45% to 95% since Chris took over. The IT set up has become more complex especially from a security perspective, as Laserex works with OEM partners in the US, Japan and Europe and these partners need to access the Laserex system without any breach in security. 95% SLA's have been maintained for over two years running; this includes the wifi access, all remote access and voice systems. Chris introduced and project managed the VoIP & Global Video Conferencing facilities, which have maintained 100% uptime and exceeded SLA's.
* Chris recommended and set up Laserex's first IT steering committee. The committee commenced in March 2005 and has already created integration between IT and the business, and a greater project management focus.
* In June 2005 Chris had full responsibility for closing Laserex's Fremont (US) R&D office and relocating the entire operation to Adelaide. Chris project managed other parts of the business, such as engineering, to undertake the entire shutdown and relocation. He dealt with multiple contractors and providers to negotiate agreements at short notice to terminate services and deal with security aspects for IP, transport and insurance, ensuring legal liabilities in the US and Australia were met. Once equipment arrives back in Adelaide Chris will have full responsibility for setting up the new operation. This was a complex project, that had to be started and completed at short notice, and Chris was successful in achieving this.

July 1998 ¡V September 2002
BAE SYSTEMS (British Aerospace Australia), Adelaide
Network Manager, Technology Park Site Manager, IT Projects
Responsibilities
„Í The Technology Park Site was a major location for BAE, acting as a type of shared services centre for four of their business units. These business units were located in different regions; metropolitan, intrastate and overseas. The site had global communications responsibilities, providing significant and cost efficient change to the company's abilities.
„Í Chris assisted in managing a technical team of eight staff; help desk, desktop services, network and cabling technicians. Chris was responsible for aspects of people management from recruitment to performance reviews, and staff development.
„Í Chris was responsible for project managing the Woomera Site. This site was in transition from the US Defence Forces, and became a new site for BAE. Due to the confidential nature of some of the work done at this location, it is not possible to talk about the technology in detail. However Chris was involved in implementing cutting edge, remote access technology for BAE.
„Í Project "East Timor" was a challenge for Chris as he was sent in to repair a project originally commissioned by BAE to private contractors. The full network and infrastructure, including all financial software, was running well below standard and technology support in East Timor was lacking. At short notice Chris had to evaluate, recommend, and enhance the networking systems supporting the project.
„Í In addition to his project tasks (as BAE were a technical and mechanical service provider for Project "East Timor") Chris took on several other minor projects to evaluate, recommend and, in some cases, repair or provide project requirements for contractors to local business owners on the island. This enabled them to get business back up and running, and the work done by Chris was above and beyond the requirements of role. However Chris was able to have a major positive effect on the way BAE was viewed by the local business community and in turn provided a greater business standing, level of credibility and helped make BAE a favored business for the island to deal with.
„Í Other duties included the role of Chairman for the BAE OH&S committee.
Achievements
* Project "East Timor" was successfully fixed by Chris. In the difficult environment of East Timor, Chris had full authority and made recommendations, and then carried out the full enhancements, as well as testing system capability and reliability. Chris was able to successfully complete this project and bring it back on track in a short time.
* Chris received major acclaim during his tenure at Technology Park, as he successfully project managed the start up of Woomera Site Service, and brought the project to completion under budget and ahead of schedule. Chris also undertook the Cisco Fibre WAN upgrade on the Holden Hill Project and completed it successfully.

October 1996 ¡V July 1998
Maprak Communications Pty Ltd
Projects & Communications Manager
Responsibilities
„Í Maprak was a visual communications company with its head office in Adelaide and offices in several cities in Australia. Chris was tasked with linking all Australian sites. He achieved this successfully by using cutting edge technology at the time, PSTN connections and receiving a hub in the Adelaide office, with overlaying connects to create a secure video network. Chris was then able to adapt the system to allow data and communications traffic, also allowing data support to several cities.
„Í Project Management, risk assessment, procurement and corporate liaison management
Achievements
* Chris' ability to adapt the network technology at Maprak, allowed the business to demonstrate in real time to clients the technology and services available.

February 1994 ¡V October 1996
A+R Computer Services Pty Ltd
Service Manager
Responsibilities
„Í A&R Computer Services worked with both the general public and companies to undertake PC builds and servicing. Chris was responsible for the day to day running of the service department, including management of 15 service technicians.
Achievements
* Chris liaised directly with A&R's business clients. It was during this part of his role, that Chris recognised a new way of doing business for A&R, and that was setting up "on site" servicing for these clients. This was taken from a concept, and turned into a new and profitable part of A&R's business.

January 1986 ¡V February 1994
