Research Topic: " Detection and Study of Radio signal associated with UHE cosmic Ray in The Atmosphere"

Brief Description of the Work:

Secondary Cosmic Ray particle has been detected using Mini-Array hut in the Mini Array (MA) laboratory, Dept of Physics, Gauhati University consists of eight compact Plastic Scintillation Counters (SC) ( size:50x50x5 cm3 ) with a total carpet area of 2m2. The front end electronics consists of fast Discriminators, 8085 microprocessor kit, Trigger circuit and Digital Storage Oscilloscope (TEKTRONIX TDS 2022, 200 MHz, 2 GS/s).Whenever a cosmic ray air shower event is occurred in atmosphere Trigger pulses are produced and corresponding data are stored in DSO and recording is done in a PC via GPIB interface(GPIB-PCI NI-488.2).

The antenna system detect the radio emission from the cosmic ray air shower in atmosphere. Two loop antenna operating in the VLF range with different orientations are installed near to the mini-array hut and radio signal has been continuously detected. Front-end electronics of the antenna system consist of low noise preamplifier, band pass filter(analog), amplifier and DSO(Tektronix TDS 520A). The system is interfacing with PC via GPIB (GPIB-PCI NI-488.2).
