VOLUNTEER EXPERIENCE
- During 2007 I worked as the coordinator of a project in Tenerife for the Atlantic Whale Foundation. Here I carried out my honours project on the whale watching industries impact on cetaceans. Responsibilities included general organisation i.e. rotas and the training of new volunteers in the identification, physiology and behaviour of cetaceans as well as data collection. Around 8 hours a day were spent at sea, locating, identifying and monitoring cetacean behaviour, as well as contributing to the guiding on the whale watching boats.

- Summer 2006 I spent 7 weeks taking part in a turtle conservation project in North Cyprus. Recording adult behaviour and nest location, relocation and excavation of nests. Recording of all hatchlings and public release, for education fund raising purposes.

- Research assistant in South Africa for six weeks in October 2004. The research focus was to obtain a better understanding of how to effectively run a small game reserve. Tracking using telemetry and traditional methods, behavioural observations, vegetation transects, small mammal surveys, dangerous reptile handling and general identification skills acquired. An isolated project with very minimal outside contact.

- I have worked on farms, stables and kennels all which have helped me appreciate a hard physical days work, and acquire animal handling skills. I have also spent several weeks working at various veterinary practices whilst at school and college 2001-2004 which helped me develop communication skills with senior members of staff as well as the delicate public.
