DENHOLM INDUSTRIAL SERVICES LIMITED - COATING CO-ORDINATOR
(LOCATION - PLYMOUTH: CLIENT: MINISTRY OF DEFENCE)
Employed at the Royal Navy Dockyard, Devonport. Duties included overseeing work on Royal Navy Ships, Submarines, Caisson's and Flap Gates, Dock Gates. Coating scope of work included interior and exterior using various paint systems, i.e. waterborne, solvent free etc. Surface preparation methods included open blasting and vacuum blast, checking substrate after final blast for the application of surcustic tile to submarines. Preparation of daily inspection work permits, which were checked by the M.O.D. Resigned and appointed on the STAG Production Platform in South Korea.

SALAMIS - COATING CO-ORDINATOR
(LOCATION - ODENSE - LINDO DENMARK: CLIENT: MAERSK) F.S.P.O.
Duties included inspection of hull prior to blast. Submission of reports on changes to recommended systems, monitoring of all applied coatings and recording all relevant data for future maintenance purposes. Attended meetings twice a day with QA/QC Management and Hempel representatives. End of Contract

MILLBURN SERVICES - Q. C. / SITE REPRESENTATIVE
Work included inspection of substrate in Tanks and special coatings
And related areas, Inspection of the application of Carboline recommended products recording of R.H and DFT's. Attending meetings with contractor and client on progress and quality related issues through to project completion and hand over. End of Contract

VICKERS - INDUSTRIAL FABRICATIONS INSPECTOR
Duties included inspection of various substrates prior to application of metal spray by means of gas system, using both wires and power types. Exotic metals including Aluminum: Monell: Zinc.
Equipment worked on - hydraulic prop shafts: crane units and pressure vessels.

(LOCATION - South Shields: CLIENT: AMERADA-HESS)
Project: Semi Submersible conversion work including total blast of heli-deck topsides using auto-blast system and undersides with wet-blast systems. Application of various coats systems by multi-functional crew uses a variety of application techniques depending on specification. Completed the project through to hand over.

BION LIMITED - WORKING FOREMAN
Employed on the 1989 British Gas Morecambe Bay Project Hook-up working on the D.P.3. Duties included, full application of the British Gas Systems, i.e. urethane, acrylic, coal tar epoxy, and polyester system. The work was performed to meet stringent standard of the British Gas Inspection Team.

METNOR (SWAN HUNTER SHIP BUILDER LIMITED) - FOREMAN / APPLICATOR
To oversee the smooth running of the application of zinc metal spraying to naval ships, engine rooms and engine beds prior to installation of machinery and instruments.

RIGIDON OFFSHORE LIMITED (NINIAN FIELD NORTH SEA) - FOREMAN / APPLICATOR
To oversee and assist in the application of glass flake polyester system to the internals of six offshore production separators of various sizes. Work included, grit blasting to S.A.2.5, application of a holding primer, trowel application of glass flake with an overall thickness of 3.5mm. After cure, conducting spark test to ensure the integrity of the system prior to hand over and re-introduction to service.

MANERSMAN G.M.B.H. (SUB-CONTRACTED TO BRITISH GAS) –
COATING TECHNICIAN
The Project involved the laying of a 36² gas pipeline from Scotland through to England, after three days training in Germany on the application of fusion blinded Epoxy (F.B.E.), through a jacket and heat induction unit. I worked on this Project for five months, applying the system to all the pipe lengths, joints and valve tie-ins.

TYNE DOCK ENGINEERING - SPRAYER
Duties included the preparation of the surfaces by mechanical and blasting techniques, depending on client's specifications. Application by airless and conventional spraying methods i.e. zinc silicate, epoxies and various coating system finishes. All work was carried out under full client inspection. End of Contract

BARRIER COATING LIMITED (U.K.) - BLASTER / SPRAYER
During my time with Barrier, I worked on various Projects for different client's e.g. SHELL, CONOCO, and BRITOIL. My work moved from blasting pipework and support steel in a blast chamber, internal work through to final hand over.

TYNE DOCK ENGINEERING (U.K.) - INSPECTOR
Work included checking and recording of substrate profile, WFT, DFT and RH on various projects including tankers, container and cargo vessels. During my time with this organization. I was responsible to oversee that the main contractor carried out all works to the required spec. This work involved blast and application of various coatings to ships hulls, tanks, double bottoms and side tanks including forward and after peeks, saddle tanks, water ballast tanks and holds etc. This position was closed due to a short fall in the number of contractors.

BECHTEL: SONATRACH - INSPECTOR / SUPERVISOR
Algeria, North Africa G.M.E. 48² Gas Pipeline 530 Kilometers total length. Materials - Protocol U.T.32.10.R applied up to 4mil in thickness. Work on main line field joints, including the terminal and block valves the project required me to learn various new skills in order to operate high-tech eqpt that was deployed on site to apply the above named product.

PILELINE PROTECTION LIMITED (NORTH EAST ENGLAND) - INSPECTOR
Work included inspection of substrate condition prior to application of Bitumastic Coating to internal and external areas of 24² to 36² Pipe Spools. Recording D.F.T.'s and carrying Q.A. checks prior to release.

PIPELINE INDUCTION HEAT - INSPECTOR
CLIENT - STATOIL
Work included inspection of fusion bonded Epoxy Coatings, surface profile / surface cleanliness, metal temperature control (using temperature indication crayons), and elastometric spacers using polyurethane Injection and finished with Servowrap.

INTERNATIONAL MARINE COATINGS - INSPECTOR / SITE REPRESENTATIVE
During this period, I was responsible for traveling around the U.K. completing small contracts for ship repair yards. This involved inspection of various coating systems to pipes decks and tanks. I left this position due to new management take over.

DEBRA COATING LIMITED (NINIAN FIELD: NORTH SEA) –
COATINGS SUPERVISOR
Application of new non-skid walkway system to all walkways, internal and external to the Ninian Central Production Platform. Work included Supervision of labour / Q.C. / ordering of materials / client to contractor meetings on progress through to hand over.

BABCOCK GERMANY (LOCATION: BRUNIBUTTLE) –
INSPECTOR / SUPERVISOR
Working under sub-contract to Babcocks in the Bayer Chemical Plant extension project. This consisted of supervision of labour force at all levels / client, contractor inspections, reporting, ordering of materials and scaffolding for various site locations on the plant for various structures.

SALAMIS (ON SHORE AND OFF SHORE) - BLASTER / SPRAYER
During my time with Salamis, I worked on various contract, including semi-subs moored at Peterhead, usually leg and pontoon areas being blasted to varying standards, depending on Client Specification: Re-coat with anti-fowling or various low permeability systems. Mud Rooms, full blast and coat with coal tar Epoxy. T.L.P. Project working in blasting was to S.A.2.5. Clean off and after Client Inspection, one coat of Inorganic-zinc Silicate.

I.M.C HARLAND AND WOLF IRELAND (DRY DOCK) - SPRAYER / APPLICATOR
Ship types include - Tankers: Bulk Carriers and Cargo Vessels. Application of coating products to all areas: internal and external tanks holds: Engine Rooms: saddles and tanks: double bottoms: decorative work to accommodation of all type of coating including, Alkyd Coal-tar flame retardant two pack paints: anti-fowling S.P.C.

MIDDLE DOCKS ENGINEERING - APPRENTICE PAINTER
Duties included - all types of painting, spraying and water blasting. I was also trained to strip down and replace worn parts of the high-pressure graco airless spray units and guns. I was made redundant due to the closure of the Yard.
