Completed a four year indentured apprenticeship at British coal as Craftsman fitter from1974 -78 working with hydraulics, pneumatics, electrics and mechanics. Duties: Install, test, examine and maintain all mechanical machinery underground and on the surface, including working on pumps motors, gearboxes, compressors, crushers, powered supports and coal cutting machinery. (District Foreman.)
Advantica(Transco British Gas Leak Test Engineer
Duties: Working as a test engineer on a national leak testing program, work to involve carrying out a risk assessment of the site then pressure testing a fixed length of gas main including connecting houses. Test section must be between 80-120 metres in length. The test section was then filled with gas and various tests were done to determine the amount of gas being lost. Using a laptop computer to check acoustic temperature and pressure drop. Also I had to do various checks and measurement. to check the length of services feeding each house. Then doing tests using a pipe discriminator to determine the kind of pipe, eg pit cast, spun cast, ductile, steel and pe.
