PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE - EXTENDED

—    Since September 1996

    Under the registered name MV Consultant International inc., self-employed engineer providing professional services in project management, electrical/automation engineering and training.

    Various mandates for the engineering firm Teknika Inc., as:
•    Project manager to implement electrical and mechanical building facilities for a railroad passenger car plant for BSP Transportation (Bombardier/Sifang/Power Corporation) in Qingdao, China (duration 13 months);
•    Engineer in charge of designing the electrical utilities for a 200,000 sq. ft hangar to be used for finishing and testing 18 CRJ-700 airplanes for Canadair in Dorval, Quebec (duration 5 months);
•    Engineer in charge of the electrical design of a railroad passenger car plant for BSP Transportation (Bombardier/Sifang/Power Corporation) in Qingdao, China (duration 5 months);
•    Engineer in charge of the electrical design of a major plant expansion of 3,500 sq. m. at Bombardier’s plant in La Pocatière QC. (duration 3 months);
•    Project engineer responsible for the feasibility study and detail engineering of two test tracks for Bombardier at their plant in Plattsburgh, NY. The first track will be used to validate the design parameters of the 25kV pantograph system on Amtrack’s high speed train. The second test track will be used to validate the design parameters of the New York Commuter Trains. This one will have a capacity of 2.5 MW, 600 V cc with an overall length of 2600 ft (duration 18 months).

    Various mandates for the engineering firm Sandwell Inc., as:
•    Engineer in charge of the electrical aspect of an overall study aimed at optimizing the pulping processes at the Quévillon plant of Domtar's Norkraft Division in Quebec (duration 1 month);
•    Engineer in charge of the feasibility study (electrical part only) to build one de-inking process plant for FF Soucy in Riviere-du-Loup, Quebec (duration 1 month);
•    Engineer in charge of the design team in a fast track winder & re-winder project for Abitibi-Consolidated in Grand-Mère (duration: 3 months);
•    Engineer in charge of the design, cost control, and schedule of an electrical project related to a loading platform at the OMYA mine in Perth, Ontario (duration: 6 months);
•    Acting Manager of the Electrical Engineering Department (duration: 1 month).
    Various mandates for the engineering firm Berman Inc., as:
•    Project engineer involved in the doubling-up of the capacity of the main 44 kV substation at Crain Drummond plant in Orangeville, Ontario and the upgrading of the over-all distribution to accommodate new electrical loads coming from their Ottawa plant which was closed down (duration 3 months);
•    Engineer in charge of the electrical design of a new cooling tower and one 200T chiller for the plant of Intral Inc. in Princeville, Quebec (duration 1 month).


—    From 1995 to 1996

    Took a sabbatical year during which my family and I circumnavigated the northern part of the Atlantic Ocean aboard our sailboat Armonid.

—    From 1986 to 1995

    Created TEKNIDUSTRIE INC., industrial division of Le Groupe Teknika Inc., with the objective of developing and promoting a new field of expertise within the consulting firm, namely engineering projects for industrial companies.

    Opened a new office for the Greater Montreal Region and consolidated a work group at the Head Office in Sherbrooke.

    The initial team consisted of two senior engineers and a senior technician with an operating budget of $250,000. Four years later, the team's expertise broadened to include a mechanical department with an overall staff of 12 engineers, 18 technicians and an operating budget of $1.8 million.

    In 1989, became partner of Le Groupe Teknika Inc. through the consolidation of the various subsidiaries under one partnership.

Main achievements:

In charge of the quality control of all projects and participated in major projects carried out within the division, namely:

¨    Development of, and follow-up on, a CPM using MICROSOFT PROJECT FOR WINDOWS for 1200 activities or so aimed at rearranging processes at the De Havilland plant in Toronto.

¨    Engineering and completion of two test tracks of 850 m each with a supply voltage of 700 Vcc/2500 A on a third rail for Bombardier inc., in Thunder Bay, Ontario.

¨    Budget preparation followed by drawings and specifications for a complete renovation of a 60,000 sq. m for Bombardier inc. in Thunder Bay. The budget for the Electrical Department amounted to $5,200,000. Monitored the progression of the project on site as needed. The project lasted for more than 18 months.

¨    Technical support to Canadair's engineering team in the drafting of specifications and evaluation of proposals for the new surface treatment.

¨    Completion of an automated material project with a capacity of 70,000 cases per week for Perkins Papers Ltd.

¨    Engineering of the conversion and completion of 600 Vcc catenaries to 25 kV and 750 Vca for Bombardier inc., in La Pocatière, Québec.
    
¨    Exploratory study and preliminary design of a maintenance workshop for the Septa Commuter Rail Service, in Chester County, New Jersey.

¨    Preliminary design and costing of a fixed price contract on behalf of Bombardier for the Québec Ministry of Transportation in regard to the construction of a workshop for the maintenance of the new electric trains for the Deux-Montagnes line.

¨    Preparation of drawings and specifications for Reynold’s new aluminum rod mill in Bécancour, Québec, with the company's Engineering Department in Richmond, Virginia.

¨    Installation of a 250-point data acquisition system on a PS/2-486 networked with 8 local stations (SCADA) for IBM in Bromont, Québec.

¨    Drafting of specifications for the rebuilding of Reynold’s plant in Cap-de-la-Madeleine, Québec, destroyed in a fire.

—    From 1982 to 1986:

    Supervision of a group of engineers and technicians responsible for the design and completion of large-scale projects for Dominion Textile's 23 Canadian plants across Canada.

    • Head Office (Montreal)

    Duties:    Senior electrical and control engineer in charge of projects on expansion and upgrading of the company's 23 plants.

    Fields:    Buildings and production machinery.

    Staff:    Two full-time engineers and four full-time technicians. Supervision of external technical staff during projects peak period, as well as supervision and coordination of consultants on specific projects.

    Budget:    Operating budget of approximately $500,000 just for the Electrical Division.
        For projects in general: from $10,000 up to $1.5 million.


    Responsible for the completion of various studies pertaining to electrotechnologies, such as:

    .    Installation of electrical boilers at the Magog and Beauharnois plants

    .    Installation of infra-red dryers on the slashing frames at the Magog, Drummondville, and Long Sault (Ontario) plants

    .    Installation of a high-frequency dryer on the drying conveyor for yarn spools at the Mont-Royal plant

    Responsible for the completion of major projects with variable speed controls in synchronism involving up to 34 DC drives with programmable logic controllers on the processing frames at the Beauharnois and Magog plants.

    Responsible for developing a five-year plan for the installation of a computer-aided production management system (CAPM).

    Involved in the checking and starting variable speed DC controllers, synchronous engines, and wound rotors (up to 2000 HP) for various GEC clients, such as F.F. Soucy, Québec Cartier Mining, Bowather, E.B. Eddy, C.I.P.

    Involved in the development of FORTRAN IV sub-routines for computing the PERT network related to the building of the Concorde for Compagnie Internationale d’Informatique (C.I.I.) in Louvecienne, France.

    Involved in the tuning of FORTRAN V sub-routines for thermodynamic calculations simulating the thermodynamic behaviour of the Canadian communications satellite ANIK I for Telesat Canada in Ottawa, Ontario.
