PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE:

1. Mazagon Dock Limited (1983- Till Date )

Company profile:
Mazagon Dock Limited, Mumbai, an ISO 9001: 2000 Company is one of the leading shipbuilding and offshore fabrication yards in India. Main activities are ship building, ship repairs and fabrication of offshore structures with facilities situated at Mumbai and Nhava. It has the capability to build warships, submarines, merchant ships upto 30,000 DWT and fabrication of well head platforms, process and production platforms and jack up rigs. For outfitting work, the company has a large number of workshops with sophisticated equipment and machines specific to hull fabrication and ship construction work
Job Profile:
A. Shipbuilding Commercial (2006 till date)

a. Prepare Tender documents For requisitions received for Engineering items including valves b. Carryout commercial scrutiny of offers received and correspond /discuss with vendors to sort out matters to ensure that the offers are in line with the guidelines given in the Purchase Manual of the Company.
c. Follow-up with Design department to obtain Technical Clearance of the offers received and upon receiving the same open the price bids, prepare comparative statements, arrange price negotiations meetings and putup proposals for order placement.
d. Monitor progress of the activities done by the suppliers so as to achieve a timely delivery of the item in the yard.

B. Shipbuilding Design (2000-2006)

a. Prepare Technical specifications for procurement of various Outfit systems.
b. Scrutinize offers received from various vendors and give technical clearance for procurement action.
c. Conduct technical negotiation committee meetings with all vendors. Sort out all technical matters (If required discuss with client) before giving final clearance to Commercial department regarding acceptance of the offers for further action.
d. Participate in price negotiation committee meetings.
e. Take up important matters with client which may hinder procurement action.

C. Offshore Design (1989-2000)

Carried out following major activities;
a. Study bid packages of ONGC projects and prepare preliminary BOMs and scope of work for preparation of quotation by marketing department.
b. Prepare technical specifications for obtaining budgetary quotes of items for costing purpose.
c. Prepare queries on bid packages for pre-bid meetings with ONGC and participate in such meetings.
d. Upon receipt of firm order from ONGC Prepare fabrication drawings for piping systems based on the schematics received from client/consultant. Generate actual BOM and project material with specifications for procurement purpose.
e. Prepare technical specifications for procurement of various Piping and Equipment items. Scrutinize offers. Discuss technical matters with vendors and give technical clearance to offers for procurement action. Approve vendor drawings of piping items.
f. Solve problems arising during fabrication and installation of piping/equipments in the yard. Maintain drawing issue progress to suit targets.
g. Maintain a record of important datas of platforms to be used in future jobs, especially Piping/Equipments.

D. Offshore Planning (1983-1989)

Worked in offshore planning department and performed planning activities of a number of offshore platforms constructed in offshore yard by MDL. The major tasks were as follows;
a. Study piping and equipment drawings received from design department b. Prepare actual BOM's, compare with preliminary MTO's and project correct material for completing the job.
c. Plan / schedule piping spools in pipe shop or outsource if shop is busy. Arrange material and monitor progress and report to higher management periodically. Keep a check on the progress w.r.t overall project schedule.
d. Give base support to offshore work being carried out at Bombay High and take prompt actions for killing the punch list.

2. Mahindra and Mahindra Limited (1978 to 1983)

Job Profile:
Department of International Tractor Division Kandivali. The job involved scheduling the machines in heavy machine shop to get planned output using available resources namely material, manpower, and machines. The basic objective being meeting the requirement of machined components on assembly line so as to achieve the daily tractor rolling out targets set by the company.

3. Inplant training in M/S G.K.W. Sankey Pressing Division Bhandup Mumbai (1977-1978)

SPECIFIC ACHIEVEMENTS:
* Implementation of the ISO-9000 quality system for a new project at the shipbuilding design section at Mazagon Dock Ltd. The implementation involved thorough study of design manual for quality systems and discussions with concerned people, I formulated a working level system of preparing, maintaining and updating the requisite documents in all the sections of Design Department for the particular project and the same is working as on date.
* Client ONGC had held up payments to MDL on account of balance work on the offshore platforms constructed & Installed by MDL in Bombay High. To get the payments from ONGC it was necessary to complete the balance work and obtain certification from the client. I co-coordinated the work for 13 platforms right from preparation of scope of work upto certification. This helped the company retrieve its stuck revenue and ensuring customer satisfaction.
* MDL was in a process of continuous bidding for ONGC Tenders related to modification of old platforms and construction of new platforms in Bombay High. For preparation of realistic quotations, the Marketing Department needed a lot of inputs in the form of Bill of Materials, work content, testing needs etc. Created policies and a database in the ship design department based on past platform data and drawings which was a very useful input for the marketing department for preparing quotations thus smoothening the bidding process and decreasing the quote to order cycle thereby capturing tens of thousands in savings.
