PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE SUMMARY
Registered Geologist and Certified Engineering Geologist (California) and Certified Asbestos Inspector (Hawaii). More than 24 years of professional experience in a wide range of environmental, geologic, and hydrogeologic projects which include numerous underground storage tank (UST) projects, hazardous waste and environmental site assessments, remedial action design and oversight/operation, underground injection control (UIC) well closures, phase I environmental site assessments, landfill fire monitoring and control, asbestos inspections, environmental assessments and environmental impact reports/statements (EA/EIR/EIS), hydrologic studies of fractured bedrock aquifers, engineering geologic and seismic investigations, and private sewage disposal system design studies. Broad-based familiarity with federal and state (Hawaii and California) environmental regulations. Extensive experience in proposal preparation, project management, report preparation, field investigations, remedial actions, regulatory agency interaction, geologic field mapping, and logging of borings, trenches, and other excavations, as well as supervision of exploratory and grading equipment including all types of drill rigs, backhoes, loaders/dozers, and other excavation equipment.
OBJECTIVE
Currently self-employed with own environmental consulting firm in Hawaii since 1992. Relocating to Arizona (Tucson or Phoenix) late this year. Disbanding own firm (might entertain purchase/merger) in order to simplify work schedule and reduce stress by working with the right consulting firm.
PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
1992-Present WC, LLC, Hilo and Honolulu, Hawaii. Owner/Principal/Chief Geologist. Coordinates and supervises proposal preparation, project costing and planning, field investigations, and report preparation for projects involving USTs, environmental and hazardous waste site assessments, and remedial actions. Recent projects involve UST site assessments, closures and remediation, UIC well site assessments closures and remediation, petroleum terminal site assessments and remediation, phase I environmental site assessments, landfill fire monitoring and control, and asbestos inspections. Recently completed remediation of large-scale petroleum contaminated soil and groundwater at petroleum bulk plant. Current multi-year contract to monitor and control an underground fire at a closed municipal landfill.
1990-1992 Duncan Walker, Honolulu, Hawaii. Owner/Chief Geologist. Coordinated and supervised proposal preparation, project costing and planning, field investigations, and report preparation for projects involving USTs, environmental and hazardous waste site assessments, and remedial actions. Projects involved UST site assessments and closures, UIC well site assessments and closures, site assessments of petroleum terminals, and risk assessment preparation.
1988-1990 Engineering-Science, Inc., Pasadena, California and Honolulu, Hawaii. Senior Hydrogeologist/Project Manager. Established Honolulu Field Office. Coordinated proposal preparation, project costing and planning, field investigations, and report preparation for environmental and hazardous waste site assessments and remedial action projects. Prepared hydrogeologic and seismic sections and responses to comments for EIR for the Malibu Wastewater Treatment Plant Project in southern California. Senior Project Hydrogeologist for the Metro Red Line subway project in Los Angeles; supervised site assessments, as well as remedial action planning and implementation, whenever USTs or other environmental or hazardous waste problems were encountered during excavation and construction for the initial 4.4-mile section of the Los Angeles metropolitan subway system. Duncan Walker was Project Manager and Senior Hydrogeologist for the proposed International Terminal Building and Hardstand Projects at the Honolulu International Airport (HIA); supervised multiple site assessments and remedial action planning for expansion at the HIA.
1987-1988 Kennedy/Jenks/Chilton, Inc., Irvine, California. Chief Geologist/Project Manager. Conducted and supervised all phases of UST projects, environmental and hazardous waste site assessments, as well as design and implementation of field investigative programs, groundwater monitoring programs, and remedial action programs. Designed and managed site assessments involving soil and groundwater contamination for several southern California aerospace and industrial firms. Designed and implemented a Subchapter 15 groundwater monitoring program for a municipal brine disposal pond in southern California.
1986-1987 Falcon Environmental Engineering and Construction, Wilmington, California. Chief Geologist/Project Manager. Conducted site assessments, together with design and implementation of remedial actions, for numerous UST sites. Conducted a preliminary site assessment and supervised remedial actions at an abandoned hazardous waste site in Wilmington, California.
1980-1986 Geoplan, Inc., Tarzana, California. Project Geologist. Conducted all phases of engineering geologic investigations for numerous residential and commercial developments and tracts. Conducted a hydrogeologic investigation for design of an on-site wastewater disposal system for a research facility in Malibu, California. Conducted engineering/seismic investigations and prepared reports for numerous residential and commercial sites within Alquist-Priolo Special Studies Zones along active faults in southern California. Evaluated hydrologic characteristics of groundwater in fractured and faulted bedrock "aquifers" in the Santa Monica Mountains in southern California to determine the effect of proposed hillside residential developments on slope stability, and vice versa. Conducted engineering geologic investigations jointly with soil engineers. Provided geologic data to, and discussed their implications on construction and grading projects with, soil and civil engineers, architects, project designers, contractors, and city/county building departments. Supervised geologic aspects of construction and grading projects, including plan review and field supervision of excavation and grading equipment.
