Brownfield project design including compliance with air, water, wastewater, storm water and wetland requirements. Representative projects include the following:

Alsip Pump Station Upgrading (Alsip, IL)
Contract to design and upgrade existing pump installation to meet peak flow demand. Project involvement over span of 8 months included design of project, coordinating and obtaining permit, integration of SCADA system to the overall water supply grid, installation of new hypochlorite disinfection system, supervision of up to 20 contractors and subcontractors, start-up of the newly implemented system, and training of pump station staff on use of new system. During length of project the pump station remained operational. Participated in meetings with city officials during design and installation phases of project.

Lockport Wastewater Treatment Plant (Lockport, IL)
Contract to increase the peak flow capacity of treatment plant to 100%. Project involvement over the span of 1 year. Designed treatment plant expansion. Installed new pumps. Upgraded SCADA system. Oversaw start-up of upgraded system and training. Supervised the work of up to 30 contractors and subcontractors.

Farrell Road Water Main (Lockport, IL)
Contract to design 1,300 feet of a 16 inch water main to improve service to new development area. Designed project. Budgeted and participated in the bidding process. Supervised up to 15 contractors in the installation of water main. Timely completion of project within budget limit.

Harvey Pump Station Upgrade (Harvey, IL)
Contract to design implementation of upgrading of pumping system and integration with 12 satellite monitoring locations using RTU's and the SCADA system. Work on this project involved uncovering and correcting operation errors to minimize labor and increase accuracy of water measurements, increasing pump capacity, eliminating frequent shut-downs, and improved service reliability. Designed, budgeted, and participated in bidding process. Supervised up to 15 contractors and subcontractors. Participated in meetings with city officials. Timely completion of project within budget limit.

Project and Process Engineer
Chicago Specialties Inc., Industrial Chemical Plant, Chicago, IL 1996 - 1999
Process Engineer for plant with nearly 100 workers. Installation and start-up of biological treatment plant and chemical processes. Thermal oxidation, ozonation and peroxidation pilot studies. Site assessment and remediation. Automated (APACS) biological treatment plant. Trained operators in compliance monitoring and start-up operations. Risk assessment of chemical process through hazard and operability studies (HAZOP). Representative projects include the following:

Biological Treatment Process: Work on this project involved start-up operation of biological treatment plant, biological acclimation studies, and implementation of test procedures, batch processing, troubleshooting and training of plant staff.

Chemical Process Control System: Work on this project involved understanding of chemical process using APACS software, operational procedures, programming, simulation and implementation of control system, troubleshooting and training of staff. Succeeded in reducing labor, improving product quality, reducing shut-downs, and securing compliance with NPDES, OSHA, RCRA and EPA regulations by eliminating accidental atmospheric release of controlled substances.

Hazard and Operability Studies (HAZOP): The scope of this project was to bring within compliance the manufacturing process stages. With participation of production personnel, process engineers, maintenance and quality control staff, all steps of production were analyzed, and changes with the objective of increase production, safety and product quality were delineated. The delineated modifications were ranked with respect to their priority. A report describing the problems and outlining the solutions was submitted to the regulatory agencies and once met with their approval, remedial action/project was implemented. Within 18 months the overall facility was meeting compliance, production was increased, atmospheric releases were completely eliminated and accidents were reduced.
